My Old Blog about things that could and should have been added when I wrote it. Not sure what I want to do with it now. I'll just keep it available now that most of it is outdated.
THe system doesn't take into account time you were actually in the mission, either: It's possible to warp into a mission because another player died, and arrive right when the mission ends and be hammered with an AFK penalty because apparently, you're a horrible leech for arriving randomly in a mission and not firing a shot within 2 seconds.
Can we not make the crystaline entity different instances.. Eg , on esd i sometimes land on 14 or 15 or so. But i have never seen that with the crystaline entity.
I don't understand. Aren't the queued events already instanced?
I have sympathy with the OP, but I also can't agree the AFK penalty is any good. It only took a few hours if that for the real leechers to work out how to get around it so I can't say it is doing a whole lot. Nice that it's there but I must question the usefulness.
As to your lag issue OP, I'd diagnose why you're getting it in the first place and see if you can't do something about it.

I no longer do any Bug Hunting work for Cryptic. I may resume if a serious attempt to fix the game is made.
It might sound harsh, but what good is a player in your team that has a (constant) dc? What's worse than having a player join you knowing he or she will dc?
I say the punishment isn't harsh enough main reason is that I hate players that hope into a mission of any kind that isn't PVP, and they do nothing to benefir the team, they either rush in dei in less that 1 minute, or they do not help you stay alive if they cant by sending hell buffs and what not. The player that do participate ,dei the less, help there team with heal buffs if available, escort another player if they are harmed, should get a bonus those that the opposite get nothing or very l;little. Many would cry but it be fair you get out what you put in.
idk about that..i just ran ISE last night in my eng scimitar....and 4 other players that were FAWers....I was dying quicker than normal as I was still trying to figure out how i had it set up (this is my tac rom) on my sci rom that can survive just fine in the same layout...in the end, it was alsmost like i wasnt personally contributing much b/c the 4 others were wiping it all out before i could really do much (i was running DCx2 + DHCx2 + plasma torp..aft:plasma turretsx3) wasnt affected by any CDs (apart from the normal 1 hour lockout) im really surprised i wasnt nailed with an afk penalty as i spent at least half the time in respawn (we had ISE done in less than 4:30) I even said sorry for dying so much, though they didnt say anything *shrug*
but yeah, being able to stay out of combat and support the rest of the team and NOT get nailed by the AFK would be good (Ive done it a couple times)
Don't get me wrong I am all for the penalty. In some circumstances.
But it is a valid criticism to state that it should take into account somehow, for somethings.
Such as dc'ing, or video crashing etc....things sometimes beyond the players control do happen.
And then there's this.
And it's something I don't see pointed out yet so I will point it out.
In this game there are certain skill sets, and even ships, whose sole purpose is to do just that.
Sit back, and support the fleet by buffing them, or healing them, etc...they are not designed to be heavy hitters and survive a one on one with a tac cube.
While I do agree with the penalty in some situations.
I think it's just a tad bit unfair to introduce into the game and the C-store too mind you.
Items which are designed for specifically doing that.
And then penalize someone for doing exactly what their skiills/ship is designed to do.
Surely there has to be some way to make things a little more equitable.
If not fine. Do away with the penalty all together.
Yes I'm saying it despite the criticism I am sure will come my way.
It is better to have no penalty at all, and just have to deal with it, than to penalize someone unfairly.

NO!
It does more good than harm... It has to stay.

Your problem.... Not mine... Especially since you don't provide any arguments for your case.

If Cryptic would implement vote kick, like most of the other MMO's have we could get rid of it but until than it has to stay.
