I just want to start out by saying, I love Cryptic! but... This feature stinks, as in almost every day I have to unslot doffs I unslotted months ago and reslot doffs that that were equipped 3x (purple techs) , and now my recently acquired Marion that I spent an arm and a leg on will randomly get unslotted too when I login, not to mention the 3x dof system isn't completely fixed as I have to make sure there is a doff already slotted into the position I want one of the techs to go in and drag it over that particular card. It really is a headache, and worst of all is realizing 2 of my main guns on my ship have been moved over to my shuttle in a completely random fashion, especially considering the fact I do crystalline elites it is pretty frustrating.
I normally don't complain about game breaking bugs like this, but given I saw the thread, I figured it would be the perfect time, and that so much time has passed since these systems have not been fixed.
i learned three things about the loadout system, and that is
1 - you got to save the loadout first at the shipyard, then at space 2-3 times, for it to be TRULY saved.(sometimes you return to shipyard and do it a second time).
2 - you need to have at least 1 free doff slot remaining(if you have say 100, you can only have 99 doffs at most), or the loadout system will likely crash and burn and refuse to change the doffs.(i think the motive for this is the old doff bug, that does not allow you to change doffs sometimes by using the button, instead of dragging the doff in place of the old one).
3 - despite this, sometimes the loadout simply does not work, i have 2 characters(both KDF romulans) in which i can't use loadouts at all, despite doing everything correctly.
i don't know if this is a bug affecting KDF-romulans, but considering the amount of bugs that affect the KDF i wouldn't be surprised.
so yeah, loadout system is utterly horrible, and i doubt it will ever be fixed.
The loadout system has a "memory" issue, it can "remember" what setup you were using on your ship before you changed anything, but after you make any changes to the setup it will "forget" those changes when you switch maps, and it will instead use what it "remembers". I believe this is what is causing most of the loadout issues people are having, especially if you have gotten rid of the gear/doffs you were using, if it can't find what it "remembers" then there is a good chance you will end up with a well scrambled ship.
exactly, I rotate 2 tac bofs seating, one for pvp, one for pve, and doing that one small thing causes my tray to completely break, and my dof load out to reset to 2 months + ago, and 2 main cannons to unequip themselves.
Read the rest of the post you quoted. If you want to reclaim and reuse a loadout slot, you have to discharge and reclaim your ship. This obviously does not work with fleet or lockbox ships. So if you want to reuse the loadouts on your Recluse and fleet T'varo, you have to discharge them and then buy another one. That's why it's largely incompatible.
Loadouts was a good idea with garbage implementation.
You don't need to reclaim a slot. You can simply overwrite an existing loadout with a new one.
I wish that loadouts worked slightly differently. I wish you could go in an "armory" onboard your ship, and store items in various "loadout" pages and switch between them when you need them.

In other words, make sure you save your loadout everytime you make a change. Multiple times. Open and close the status screen and save after that if you have to.
I personally havent gotten any of the bugs people have been posting about but I can imagine that it happens.
I have 6 characters with 2 loadouts saved on each one. Out of my 12 total loadouts, only 1 of them actually works as it is intended. When I load the other 11 loadouts it completely blows up my trays, putting random powers into slots or just leaving them blank, and unfortunately, this is the most time consuming part of switching builds.
Usually, a product needs higher than an 8% chance to work if you are going to sell it or want people to actually buy it. How can Cryptic justify selling such a broken piece of tech such as loadouts when you can't switch between them even some-what reliably? Do they give your money back if you buy extra loadout slots and they don't work properly?

Even that wont help, as it also forgets what loadout you were using when you switch maps, instead you need to force the game into remembering what you want it to remember.
Grab all of the gear you want on your ship and stick it in your inventory, now park your TRIBBLE in system space, not sector space and most definitely not ground, now setup your ship how you want it to look. Once you have it finished you save it as a loadout, either create a new one or save over the top of an existing one, once it's saved we need to force the game into remembering the setup you have just finished. We do that simply by dragging a piece of equipment off the ship back into the inventory, once you have done that click on the equip loadout button and reapply the loadout you just saved, everything "should" now look the way you set it up, and should stay like that after you switch maps.

You shouldn't need to dismiss your ship at all.

I would if the added traits.

I make a ship, I run that ship for its purpose. You dont need to swap anything to go PvE anyway, still do massive dps, blahblahblah.
One build covers all the bases and most serious players have multiple toons for different roles anyway.
Never did see the point this late in the game.
