Captain Skills

hey guys,

since a good while now i am wondering why our captains do learn SHIP Skills...i mean...the driver coil , shield cap (( and all the other settings)) on should be either integrated in the current ship OR even better:

The Ships should have base stats and the rest is completely added with consoles/device/items thingies...of course we would need more slots then but it would make more sense to skill my ship instead of my captain...

for example... structural integrity or even Hull plating..lol really? i mean how does my captain improve this? -.-

i can understand attack patterns and maneuvers (( as picard tells their helmsmen what pattern to use ))

but not shield cap or integrity or whatever...

so what i ask for is to remove most skills from the captain and put them in the ships:

ill make a list how i think it would make the most sense:

Captain skills:

Everything Ground based, Starship Attack Pattern , Starship Weapons Training , Starship Maneuvers

Ship Skills:

Starship Energy Weapons , Starship Projectile Weapons, Stealth , Threat Control Targeting Systems , Energy and Projectile Specialisation , All Engineering Science and Operation Systems.

like this it would feel more real i think...

let us either level our ships(( or maybe not :D )) OR we can setup the things for free when we get the ship and to respec we need a token or something.

what do you say?

In my opinion this would also give us a real reason to have more than 2 ships..oO... i mean that way you can have a science-science supportive ship and an escort and even tanky cruiser without changing specialisation... also it would be easier for people to use the "holy trinity" in this game without logging a different toon but instead switching the ship...

i also thing CASH thinsg could sell better since we would have reasons to buy more ship due to the fact we can play different styles just by clicking "switch starship" .. means people might buy more ships , slots and so on ^^

The captain skills are overdue to be revisited for tweaking and maybe a large restructure, but I'm thinking more of combining some skills back to lower tiers, i.e., Aux, Shield, Engine Performance into one skill. Stuff like that.

I personally think every ship should come with a tractor beam and not have to be slotted as a Boff skill. Even if we leave the Boff tractor beam skill as is can't we create a "generic" one for all ships? It can be just slightly weaker than the Boff versions but tractor beam was a staple of basically every ship in Star Trek including some/most shuttle craft.

I don't see why not. Sci Ships have innate Subsystem Targeting but BOffs have it as a Skill, too.

Yeah Tractor Beam is a standart function in federation ships in the movies and series.

I believe there are some Missions in the game where you use your Tractor in non-combat ways, representing that every ship has a Tractor - I believe we tow some other ship. The Boff Skill is simply representing that you have someone competent enough on your bridge to use it effectively in combat.
STO is about my Liberated Borg Federation Captain with his Breen 1st Officer, Jem'Hadar Tactical Officer, Liberated Borg Engineering Officer, Android Ops Officer, Photonic Science Officer, Gorn Science Officer, and Reman Medical Officer jumping into their Jem'Hadar Carrier and flying off to do missions for the new Romulan Empire. But for some players allowing a T5 Connie to be used breaks the canon in the game.

would be nice if we can use it out of combat too , like for roleplay purposes maybe :D your friends gets a request and if he accept you can tow him :D

It would actually make more sense, if those skills were based on the BO's rather than the captain.

The only skills that should come from the captain, are those attached to the captain himself, and the rest should come from the BO's.

The Warpcore efficiency should come from the Chief engineer. How good the accuracy is should come from the Tactial Officer and so on...
Don't look silly... Don't call it the "Z-Store/Zen Store"...
Let me put the rumors to rest: it's definitely still the C-Store (Cryptic Store) It just takes ZEN.
