The K't'inga, K't'inga Refit and Koro't'inga

edited July 2014 in Klingon Discussion
This question goes out to anyone who might own one, or all of these vessels. I'm looking to buy a Fleet KDF ship that isn't the Mogh. The D7 design is a classic, and I am tempted by it, though am curious to know whether the K't'inga, K't'inga Refit and Koro't'inga are interchangeable within the ship customizer.

Can I switch around the heads, necks, hulls and nacelles, or are they fixed designs?

You can swap all the parts around... if you own all the other K'tinga versions.

Yes you can. You can even make the classic D7 look, or make your own using the parts.

I recommend you get the Fleet Kamarag instead of the Fleet K'tinga. It looks very similar and has a much better bridge officer layout. It's also very nearly as agile and it's tougher too.

fleet tor'kaht comes with the vor'cha appearance if that helps. I always enjoyed flying that one.

Bought it lately. Unfortunately you can't mix parts of different variants. Not being a top ship performance-wise I must admit I have a lot of fun flying it.

Well that's a whole lot of inconsistency if I hadn't seen it before.

I'm (eventually) looking at two Fleet Ships per character. I imagine the Tor'khat will be my 2nd KDF one, but it isn't my focus at the moment. :)

With the Fleet version it's the same as with the regular versions: you're stuck with a ship that does not allow mix and match between parts. Sorry.:(

My recommendation is the same as the earlier poster: Fleet Tor'kaht. Yes, the skin it unlocks is kind of... odd. But it can use the Vor'cha parts, the Vor'kang parts, and the Mirror skin (unlocked by Mirror Vor'cha). And it's the best tactical cruiser in the game.

    Here's mine.

Oh, Mirror Vor'Cha... I should look for that one on the Exchange. THough maybe not, I don't actually know the Klingon mirror skins yet. But then, it will be some 100,000 credits or so it might set me back, so hardly a big deal.

I am with you when it comes to the ships but I like the darker skin it gets better.

Oooh, built-in lieutenant commander science. You know what that means, right? It means GW1, which means you can use cannons on it even better.

Fleet Kam has basically the same layout as the Mirror Negh'Var (except with an LT uni instead of LT eng), which is an awesome ship. And the Kamarag turns even faster than my Tor'Kaht, which uses cannons in PVE no problem (I'm running a hybrid aux2batt/aux2damp build).

i always thought of a fleet k't'inga mostly for nostalgic reasons to the canon trek. however what drove me away from it was that it reads more like a cross escort cruiser then an cruiser with high hull points and average turning.
    T6 Miranda Hero Ship FTW.
Been around since Dec 2010 on STO and bought LTS in Apr 2013 for STO.

yeap, same problem as the Fed Heavy Cruiser: engi-heavy BOFF layout on a ship that cant tank.

Klingon mirror material is nice. It actually gives the ship a "mirror" finish- it takes on the colors of the environment around it.

I would say kiting if your an engineer, kamarang if your science. and my personal favorite ship in the entire game. the Tor'kaht for any of the above and especially tactical.

This is not correct. I own the Fleet K'tinga and purchased the Koro'tinga appearance bundle. YOU ABSOLUTELY CANNOT MIX AND MATCH THE VARIOUS PARTS OF EACH WITH THE OTHER! You can have a D7 appearance, or a K'tinga appearance or a K'tinga Refit appearance or a Koro'tinga appearance (if you purchased that appearance bundle) BUT YOU CANNOT MIX AND MATCH BETWEEN THOSE APPEARANCE TYPES!

Which brings up a good question...Why not? C'mon develeopers...Make it so!

Yeah, it's pretty neat, but is crippled by one serious flaw: The boff layout doesn't actually let you USE cannons effectively: You have only a single Lt Tac slot, which means if you equip your cannons in that slot...you have no attack pattern, and thus the ship is a flop at cannons. You can run beams, quite effectively, but the 4/4 layout limits you to arrays, as otherwise you have too many dead weapon slots. It's one of those neat concepts that falls apart in execution.

That would make a much better K't'inga Refit skin than the current one.

Something I would really like to see is the fixing of the warp nacelles (non) glow bug.

You will probably find it on several websites

because it's obviously the "Klingon Warbird" from the 2009 Trek movie:

and that is pretty much all we need to know about this ship.

A few modifications to the design in those links would take care of any legal issues.

Only if they're so extensive there's only a tentative connection still visible.;)
The Exeter for example is as close to the JJ Trek Connie as they can get without having their butts sued. The same would apply to the "Warbird" given it's from the exact same material.

If they made an effort to change some aspect of the design to the point where certain features are either augmented or missing, then they've got something unique. Extensive? Tentative connection? Take that to a court of law and see if it sticks. Especially in light of the fact that the design in those links already has an appearance that resembles the D7/K'tinga which is already in the game.

    Fine you do that.:)
There's a reason companies shy away from such issues:
it sometimes takes years to settle and can cost millions.
We already know what Cryptic has said regardng any chance to get any ship from the new movies.

They won't allow future ships to have much if any cross-mixing customization. Why? They guy who worked on these is no longer with the company. A LOT of effort went into making ships mix-matchable, then they stopped. It was too hard for them to bother with. All new ships are fixed and will merely have (rather lame) custom textures -- or maybe at best bent vs straight warp pylons (also lame).

The Fleet K'Tinga Retro is one of the worst treated ships in the game, in terms of models being bugged (LODs are screwed up), in terms of basic stats (worst hull), etc. I don't think it is advisable unless you know what you're getting into. I have it and use it. Or, I used to use it. I've stopped playing mostly since the last "season" screwed so much of the game over. Before that it was still capable but definitely not top-tier.

I broke 11K in mine using DHCs before the damage got all borked. Not typical results, but still some semblence of hope, eh?
