While I grant you it is only 20 minutes into the maintenance and patch, I am usually able to get in and patch up by this point, so I don't have to do it later in the day when I get home. However, this time, I am getting the 'Unable to Authenticate" message, and am unable to patch.
My "worry" (it's just a game, so "worry" is, of course, relative) is that the last time this happened, servers crashed, folks lost items, and/or people were locked out of the game for some time.
I will let it ride for a bit and try again later, but just in case, I wanted to shout out a 'heads up' to see if anything needs to be "headed off at the pass..."
Thanks.
[EDIT: 10:13 (MST)] Scratch that; resolved itself. Just the first time I have gotten the message since I have been playing.
Fleet Commander
Caprica's Revenge (...actually active since November 2010, which may one day be important to archaeologists, but not to anyone else...)
That's quite the paradox, how could you nerf nerf when the nerf is nerfed. But how would the nerf be nerfed when the nerf is nerfed? This allows the nerf not to be nerfed since the nerf is nerfed? But if the nerf isn't nerfed, it could still nerf nerfs. But as soon as the nerf is nerfed, the nerf power is lost. So paradoxally it the nerf nerf lost its nerf, while it's still nerfed, which cannot be because the nerf was unable to nerf.
It doesn't happen every time they apply a patch, but sometimes at the start of a patch run the authentication servers are brought down as well.
Just wait for half or a whole hour and try again. If it still doesn't work, wait after the patch run is finished.
Yep; you called it - exactly what happened. It was just odd: I have been playing since the end of 2010, and this was the first time I'd gotten that message. I just remember last time that there were some hefty problems for some folks afterward, and they did have to do a second patch to resolve the issue - would have been early in 2013; do you recall that? Anyway, yeah, just concerned because of that instance and, I'll also be honest that a second reason was worry that my game might be broken...or delayed. Patience is a virtue, just not one I ever developed to its fullest potential, ha!

Oh 2013, yeah I remember that... What a ... magnificent year!
And about patience being a virtue? I'm married, so I don't have any other choice then to be patient, hehe...
