Fire off issue in shooter mode

Yesterday, I played the new FE with my Romulan char for the first time. It seems that since yesterdays patch something has changed in the ground shooter mode.
I was only able to use first and secondary fire, when an enemy was directly on target.
You can't miss any target now, because when your are not on target the weapon won't fire.
I find this not very realistic and hope that this change wasn't intentional.
Has anybody else experienced that issue?

    Shooter mode was always a really crappy game mode. My guess is that cryptic definitely just let that mode to get into the obvlivion, and they never payed attention to it. If that mode is bugged is someway, im 200% sure it will never be fixed.

    Well, I hope that isn't the fact. I use the shooter mode for ages. It would be very disappointing, if this issue was intended.
