And that is a good thing. If he were I might have reason to question his sanity...
I am all for a more subdued lounge as opposed to a club. Taco, I'm liking your line of thought on C47. As far as the games are concerned, you could have NPCs playing them. A couple of Zakdorn playing Stategema, perhaps.
this is a good idea. Strategema is too complicated to make a good minigame anyways, not that we actually know the rules mind you... But it'd be cool if you could use an emote to pretend to play.
Ok, so I think a piano, or a band might be appropriate. I don't think pool or poker are, but I might be ok with having a game or two in there. (it shouldn't be a full arcade though) The main issue with that, is that we aren't going to get any programmer time to actually make minigames, and so they would just be set dressing, which I foresee causing a ruckus.
I don't want this to be a very stuffy, up tight place, but it shouldn't be a dive either. It should be a relaxing, classy, cool club. I have no problem with this being a pseudo restaurant where officers might get some food as well.)
What about something more classical and classy and old school, such as the nightclub from Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom? Starfleet captains, diplomats, command officers, these are very high level people in Federation society, who deserve a degree of class and sophistication. I mean, a Starfleet captain can request and usually quickly gets a direct audience with leaders of planets. You're a Big Deal if you can get the time of the leader of billions.
It's still a nightclub, just a more classy high class one and less exploded acid trip. It's an officer's club. They're there to unwind from a hideously stressful job, relax and have a good time, a tasty meal, a few good drinks with their friends who they rarely see often enough as is, and maybe get some dancing in or listen to good live music.
This isn't the Mos Eisley Cantina or a Chiba City electro-rave. Even if the singer is a weird alien. Or a borg.

Dark, warm, rich, more saturated colors. Softer materials. Interesting Lighting (but not Disco)
The first one somehow caught my eye. NOt sure what it was - maybe the background image/window reminds me of Guinan's bar?
Yes, without a mini-game, I wouldn't risk putting a poker spot there. Of course, people have been asking for a poker mini-game since forever... So consider a spot that you might transform at a point where the mini-game is implemented. (Though I fear that won't ever happen, because the poker mini-game has little reusability and is not so "mini").
I don't know if you can get anything at all in terms of programming time, but maybe what could work instead of a poker player could be a DOFF contact that offers the Poker Playing DOFF assignment (and all the related gaming assignments) ? (Maybe there is a backroom door that hints at the spot where the players would play.)
Just a hint of the favourite TNG bridge crew past-time...
Star Trek Online Advancement: You start with lowbie gear, you end with Lobi gear.

Anything is good just have it play more then one music track and more then that terrible technoish it used just plus vary that it is the only music in my game because I cant turn it off and it is mind numbingly terrible.
Second one, add some "old Earth nautical" accents like old ships' bells and wheels and you're talking "home of the diplomats."
Third and fourth one both, well...not sure how you get "but not disco" out of them- they both positively shriek "bring on the LSD and Donna Summer records and let's parrr-tay!" Nevermind that the last one already has built-in disco balls.

How about a turbolift to Club 47? Then we don't have to worry about whether it "fits" next to the already built part of ESD. It can be anywhere in the structure that makes sense. Even better, you could then add Club 47 as a destination on the other turbolifts that currently take you to other levels of the station. Easy access from many places on the stations means it would be more likely for people to go there.
Finally, turning the door right near the transporter into a turbolift offers another option. It could be the new link point for all those orphaned foundry missions left dangling by the incomplete revision of ESD. Probably 3/4 or more of all Foundry missions start at the panel "just outside the transporter on ESD"... which doesn't exist now. We need to reconnect those missions to the game. New instructions would be: Just enter the turbolift next to the transporter.
(And for that matter, you could also make the Captain's Table area a turbolift destination. No need for a "door" that noobs bump into trying to get through. Just make the Captain's Table a special turbolift destination that the non-qualified don't even see.)
again, just some google searches. None of those is like, the whole thing. Imagine all of those kind of mixed together.
Personally I like the first one. I would like the club to be like Dark Star in Mass Effect 2.
I would also really like some soft jazz or more relaxing music in the club. And having say a band of Talosians playing the same song over and over wouldn't be a bad joke. :P
RE: having game tables. Yeah, I dont think Poker is ever gonna get in STO. Its a complex game and thats alot of programming. That said, I wouldnt mind smaller minigames in there. A single puzzle minigame if the programmers have some spare time perhaps?
I like the idea of the lounge area, separate (or at least distinct) from the dance floor. The lounge would be a good place to use the formal wear costumes, and our dress uniforms at times (e.g. entertaining dignitaries), as well as our various off-duty outfits (e.g. casual dinner with colleagues).
* * *
Mini-games are good... But when I saw the suggestions for mini-games at Club 47 I couldn't help but think of Dave & Busters in Spaaaace!
* * *
I'm not sure if it falls within the purview of Tacofangs, but it would be nice to have an NPC (either Starfleet officer, Federation diplomat, or civilian) in the lounge part (not the dancefloor) who is a contact for the Foundry.
* * *
I like the idea of a door leading to the Captain's Table, but then I thought...
'aj, naDev tlhInganpu' tu'lu'! Admiral, there be Klingons here!
The Captain's Table is accessible by both Starfleet and Klingons. The war is over, but does that mean we'll be seeing Klingons walking around ESD and Starfleeters walking around First City? If not, it'd be kind of odd to be in Club 47, walk through the door to Captain's Table and see Klingons. (And inversely, to be in the bar on First City, walk through a door and see Starfleet officers.) Unless the door to Club 47 is a mysterious transdimensional portal to a Q-created hang out, or something. You're ruining my immersion, man! (Not really.) Maybe the doors will lead to people using Captain's Table more.
* * *
I've thought about this for ESD in general, but especially for Club 47: there should be some NPCs in the Academy uniforms. It seems like ESD is off-limits to Academy cadets. You never see them there. There should be a small number of cadets walking around ESD, visiting friends or getting stuff done between classes. Aside from ESD proper, it seems you would find at least a couple cadets in Club 47, on the dancefloor or at the lounge -- unless cadets are like droids and their kind isn't served here.

Speaking of immersion, and thinking of role-play,...
Without having programmer time for mini-games or interactive elements, a way to make Club 47 feel like a living environment and to give RPers stuff to work with, adding non-interactive "set dressing" could go a long way: bottles and glasses on the bar and tables, a table with two tribbles on it, a table with a bowl of soup or some alien food dish, etc. Maybe a tall fish tank to give some "life" (animated motion at least). Players could stand or sit next to them and pretend/roleplay they are using those items.
Dark, warm, rich, more saturated colors. Softer materials. Interesting Lighting (but not Disco)
I like the first and fourth. They both seem to fit the aesthetic of ESD and a club/lounge of the future. I like the blue lighting overall and then some splashes of color like red or purple.
this is a good idea. Strategema is too complicated to make a good minigame anyways, not that we actually know the rules mind you... But it'd be cool if you could use an emote to pretend to play.
I was thinking just 2 npcs sitting there and furiously playing each other. Maybe with a small group of bystanders looking/cheering on. Just a touch of flavor. If the rules were known and simple, that would be another story. An emote would be cool, but I won't count on it.

I'm pretty sure that space to fit a club is definitely NOT an issue. There is an incredibly huge amount of space behind that door between what would be frames 149 and 148 (the door should give you a sense of scale). You could fit pretty much anything in there. The issue is "what" and "in what arrangement".

I am purposely avoiding the Turbolift. While yes, it would allow us some more freedoms, I also think that gating the Club by a turbolift would lead to even fewer people using it than might otherwise. I think if we make it as part of the Concourse, accessible, and visible from everywhere else, it is more likely to be used.

We're working on the issue with the foundry mission doors not working. All assets (doors, Objects and NPCs) were ported over and SHOULD work fine. It may require manually republishing the mission, but the missions won't be permanently busted.
The "Panel just outside the transporter" has been moved, and is now the wall monitor in the Conference room, on the lower level of Ops.
The Captain's Table (from lore) is supposed to be just another door. I don't think a turbolift would be right. It would feel like it's taking you to another part of the station, but in reality it's taking you between dimensions?

It'd probably be wise not to include the props then, because there will be threads on them every two weeks after it's released demanding the pool be playable.
I know we already got the cool booths with the shipyard in the background (thanks for that, by the way, I asked for that and was answered, very cool of you) so what about an exterior analogue of that? Like a couple of booths with a window seat where you could see ships on approach to the dock doors? There current club door faces due north, and there's a (runway?) in the dock headed in the same cardinal direction.
Also, we've got this great deco theme with green plants and running water, I still think a really big aquarium full of bio-luminescent aquatic life like jellyfish or something could be cool. As like a wall or ceiling thing. It could be the reservoir all this decorative, non-drinking water comes from.

Imagine how much busier Quark's would be if going there didn't involve a loading screen. Though at least there's Dabo.
Ok, I'm starting to regret asking for ideas now. . .
No Dabo
No Stripper Poles
No Party Button
No Justin Beiber.
No "High Rollers"
This is not a casino, this is a classy club for high ranking Officers and Diplomats on the station.
I'd love to make Vic's sometime, but that has a home, and it's not on ESD.
Well I have to tell you, if you are going for classy then you can forget about pop electro music and lit-multicolor disco dance floors, because that isn't classy, it's rather tacky. For a formal classy environment suitable for officers and diplomats, in the dance area you're looking for something like a ballroom with crystal chandeliers, Greek columns, silk drapes over stained glass windows or scenic frescoes on the walls. For a lounge your looking for comfortable seating and plenty of places where small groups can have privacy and everything would need to have luxurious decor. Such a formal setting would need more sedate music and I think developers would find slow dancing too daunting to animate, it would likely end up looking more like slow motion melee combat than dancing.
My point being, given what you have to work with, you wouldn't really be able to make a truly classy club, it's going to be a bit tacky no matter what.
That said, what is the point of creating the area if players have no reason to enter?
Having the Diplomats relaxing in the lounge rather than standing perpetually in Admiral Quinn's office, putting in a Dabo table and GPL console (ideally it should be a roulette table but Dabo already exists in game), will add functionality to region.
If something is not broken, don't fix it, if it is broken, don't leave it broken.
ok I understand you guys dealing with working out the bugs from S9 update and you guys are busy, but im seriously thinking about club 47, and its new location in Earth spacedock, Awesome job btw and ftw, so lets make it more FTW by putting the new Club 47 on the Upper deck, overlooking Earth out the back windows, with the front of the club with huge glass windows, and Lighting effects and good music we would have a super great club 47 for our new ESD, Please do not put the new ESD on the lower floor, it would look like total crud, iv had many people say Upper floor overlooking earth is nicest place:)
If the feature does not revolve around grinding, Cryptic will most likely punt it down the road. Club 47 gets in the way of grinding; therefore, Cryptic will prolong its release date. Cryptic is too focused on making money.
"Star Trek: Online" is serious business. No fun. Just grind.
The Captain's Table (from lore) is supposed to be just another door. I don't think a turbolift would be right. It would feel like it's taking you to another part of the station, but in reality it's taking you between dimensions?
I ran past the old Club 47 all the time and it was always vacant. I'm glad they are putting the new one in for those who miss it but judging from my experiences that number must be small. I guess metrics or something else (the powers that be) disagree with my assessment.

When I take a mission requiring the former panel outside the transporter room, that wall monitor does not show the "activity" sparkle. Is this patch tomorrow supposed to fix it? I hope so.

all missions that used it need to be republished by the player who wrote them
Wow. I need to get a late pass. I was not aware of the history and lore behind The Captain's Table. I have renewed interest and respect for it. I haven't been able to keep up with the novels. I love reading in general and reading Trek but just don't have as much time to sit and read as I'd like.
I wish there were more (or something) to do at the Captain's Table. I used to go there sometimes, but haven't been there for a year or so.
Maybe an NPC or two with extended dialogue, more than just the small pop-up bubble, with a unique story of that captain's adventures. Just text to read, but would fit with the theme of the Captain's Table.
Well, "lore"... It's from a book "series" which are collections of fan fiction.
The officially licensed novels and comic books are not "fan-fiction". They may not be hard canon, but they are not "fan fiction".
Works of fan fiction are rarely commissioned or authorized by the original work's owner, creator, or publisher; also, they are almost never professionally published.
Authors of Star Trek novels like Keith R.A. DeCandido, Dayton Ward, David Mack, Diane Duane, Kristen Beyer, Diane Carey, etc. may also be Star Trek fans, but they are professional writers paid to write licensed stories, sanctioned by CBS. To call their work "fan-fiction" misrepresents it and in my opinion diminishes it. Sorry to say, but most "fan fiction" is badly written TRIBBLE.

One of the stories features Archer telling the story of his beagle as a super-spy... your point?

I think it should be moved to the 'open starbase project' ghetto that they keep posting about.
The new ESD is bad enough as it is without being made worse with a "dance club".
What--and miss out on an homage to the great dance clubs we saw on K-7 and Starbase 11 back in "The Trouble with Tribbles" and "Courtmartial?"
I'm with you, Cap'n. A dance club is completely out of place on ESD, and barely tolerable on Risa. It has nothing to do with canon (after all, we're not in the JJ-verse, which did feature one in "Into Darkness") and it's only there to pander to the teens and twenty-somethings that play the game.
At least it'll be behind a door now so I don't have to look at it or hear it on those rare occasions when I go to ESD. Close hailing frequencies, Lieutentant Uhura--there's no intelligent life there.

The fourth is awesome!!! And it has disco balls... really it does. mmmm... disco....

"Star Trek: Online" is serious business. No fun. Just grind.

Well, "lore"... It's from a book "series" which are collections of fan fiction.

When I take a mission requiring the former panel outside the transporter room, that wall monitor does not show the "activity" sparkle. Is this patch tomorrow supposed to fix it? I hope so.

The officially licensed novels and comic books are not "fan-fiction". They may not be hard canon, but they are not "fan fiction".
One of the stories features Archer telling the story of his beagle as a super-spy... your point?
