Why No level 10 Promotion?

Does anyone know why there is no level 10 Promotion/Ship as usual?

    There should be.
    One rather recent problem I've been reading about is that you need to do a mission called "Test Your Mettle"
    (I think it's called that or something very similar) before you get your promotion mission.

    The actual promotion to Lt cmdr and the next new ship happens at "test of Mettle". It's actually tied to a mission instead of happening automatically. Why this is, I'll never know and it's asinine.

    I think it's because with LoR Cryptic has started this bad habit to include missions into their character progression that are unavoidable and unskippable.
    A prime example on the Romulan side is of course the one where you have to chose to side with Starfleet or the KDF.
    That of course means that some missions are basically "stuck in line" behind those missions and the promotion is the "victim" in this particular case.

    Unfortunately, it seems the automatic free ship at level 10 only applies to the Federation.

    As stated above, for the KDF you need to complete "Test of Mettle" before you get your free ship. I actually completed that mission at level 15 or 16 because I was kinda doing my own thing when I was exploring what else I could do other than the main story missions.

    This can TRIBBLE people a bit during "Double XP" events.

    Yeah, it's a very bad design - I've seen people wondering just like th OP many many times before. It can be the result of double XP weekends or just a player doing his/hers own thing and maybe doing just exploration clusters or empire defenses. However, if you do the story missions regulary, then "Test of mettle" will come precisely when you hit lvl 10.
    They really need to reconsider this as it's obviously confusing many people.

    Anyway OP, as the others in the thread have said - you need to do the "Test of mettle" mission as a part of which you're assigned to your new Tier 2 ship. You can just skip to that mission, get the ship and then go back and replay the missions you skipped.

    The above lot is for Klingons, but as you haven't stated which side you are here, for Romulans the promotion mission is "Neutral no more".

    For both, you need to complete them before level 19, as it ruins your lvl 20-29 ship selection if you leave it beyond lvl 19.

    Out of curiosity why does it "ruin" the lvl 20-29 ship slection if you do not select your upgrade ship at level 19?

    I plan on starting a Romulan toon probably this weekend just for the hell of it and play it periodically. I have a tendency to abandon the main story pretty early; both my Fed and KDF toons have been level 50 for at least 5 weeks, but I have only gotten up to the start of the Wasteland story arc.

    You need 33k xp and level 10
