The daily shard maintenance is irritating

borgdronesborgdrones Member Posts: 6 Arc User
Seriously whats the deal? After a hard night at work, I'd love to play the game I love so much I went lifetime. Are the patches not being properly tested and thats why or what? The game didn't used to go down so often. What's going on?

Yes, it feels like I'm playing EVE again, without the extra douchebaggery and boredom.

Are you complaining about Cryptic fixing bugs and glitches that otherwise detract from your overall enjoyment of the game?

You would be surprised how many "emergency patches" had to applied in earlier seasons. This season start went quite smoothly actually. No server crashes, no random disconnects, no 20 min waiting time when you try to log in.

NAh, he is just saying the truth. This is the not so-old EVE. If cryptic will do their job as they should, we should have a patch every day solving at least 1 bug. Not our fault that you are living in a fantasy world.

Yeah, I'm not crazy about the downtime, and I loathe it when games put out updates that could have been tested a few weeks longer, but I hate having bugs throughout a game and having a development team do nothing.

Sure, this game has some ongoing bugs but seriously, I've played games that do a far worse job of QA.

The maintenance is irritating, but probably inevitable. Things will slip through testing, or won't be noticed until they're under the full load of the live server....

Although I'm irritated, I'm also surprised it's gone so well, comparatively speaking. I was expecting much more in the way of crashes, downtime and glitches. On balance, I think they've handled this update pretty well on the whole.

Cryptic, let's not have any bug fixes, obviously they ruin the game.

I just want to know why its down daily. Thats all I'm looking for. An honest answer. The servers have gotten better. I admit that I used to hate all the server disconnects. But even so, I was able to enjoy the game without daily downtime. To be honest I'm starting to believe there isn't a real plan for the game. Just lockboxes and daily downtime.

Yeah, let's not have at least a modicum amount of bug fixes before a major release. It ruins the game.

It's down daily because the hundreds of thousands now playing it find more problems then the few thousand who tested it on tribble. So they're trying to fix the problems quickly. That's why seasons are launched early in the week rather then on thursday, the normal patch day. That way most of the problems can be found and fixed before the weekend.

If you think that this is what the game is all about, then i'm going to assume you started playing less than a week or so ago (EDIT: January. Close enough.). This isn't what it's like on a regular basis. Typically, maintenance takes place on a Thursday, once per week, for two or so hours.

These patches have been daily since the S9 release (which was only three days ago, I might add) because they're fixing issues that were directly related to the S9 release content. The Undine Battlezone being uncompleteable, or the new trait system not working as intended. Things that could not wait a week to be fixed.

Actually its not funny. STO could have about 75% less bugs that it has now. Right now, STO is the most bugged game on the story of the videogames. That is a fact like a temple. Some of you just resist to see the reality. Or some of you are just cryptic employers of people that needs to justify their monthly money deposit to cryptic.

No, I've been around for a while. I played every season at release. I hope they straighten it out soon. Season 9 started off with an awesome bang.

no. traditional launch days were on thursdays, the standard patch day. they launched S9 Earlier than normal, on a Tuesday, so they would have a few more days to quash gamebreaking bugs so people could actually play on the weekend and they wouldnt have to do any emergency patches on the weekend.

I am glad that they are taking the time to fix the bugs, even though it cuts into my playtime. I just hope that they have all of the SNR, disconnect, and crash bugs worked out for everyone before the weekend Dilithium grind event next weekend.

Its down daily because they released an expansion that was full of game-breaking bugs that needed hot-fix bandaids. This is due to lack of testing to catch said bugs --- its a strategy but a poor one: what you do is release it, let the users test it for you (this is free!) and fix critical errors as they are discovered.

    Welcome to STO season patches.
Don't look silly... Don't call it the "Z-Store/Zen Store"...
Let me put the rumors to rest: it's definitely still the C-Store (Cryptic Store) It just takes ZEN.

I have played WoW, LoTRO, DDO, WAR, RS, Rift, ****, STWOR and all have bugs. I have yet to play a bug free game.

I'll be honest. This was my first mmo. I was amazed at first and then once i saw all the bugs and disconnects I left for about 6 months. (signed up in August 2010) I recently tried SWTOR and I was highly disappointed with all the early grinding. Just gimme my lightsaber, you know? lol

But I remember how accomplished I felt when I maxed out my Fed character. At that time the Klingon side was severely lacking in PVE content. I came back every season to play the new missions and I fell in love with the game all over again. Last week I logged into my Klingon account and was amazed by the progress. I played every day until I took a commander to Brigadier General.

Yesterday I spent hours before work replaying the breen story arc so I could have the entire ship set. I will keep coming back again and again. I went lifetime when it cost as much as an Xbox 360. The daily downtime just reminds me of how broken the game was at launch and I know it is so much better than that. I'm now working on the borg consoles but I believe they've been relegated to the reputation system which I don't really understand or like, but what can I do if I want the loot?
