In principle, I very much like the idea of being able to use the actual costume options in the tailor to dress my boffs with rep gear like the omega ground set. Unfortunately, perhaps because it was thought to no longer be needed, the "show visuals" option on the ground armour was also removed.
This has the unfortunate side effect of making it impossible to do what I was doing before, which was to have my officers using a standard uniform most of the time, but turning on the visuals for "heavy combat gear" when things look like they're about to go hot on away missions.
I would very much like this option back, as it was my main incentive to keep unlocking ground gear. I can think of a few ways to fix or improve this situation.
1) Re-enable the "show visuals" option. Assuming it was just done because it was thought to be uneeded now and not for some technical reason, this would be a great short term solution.
2) If that can't be done, how about a tailor on our ships interiors? Since the tailor is free anyway, I could just go in and reload some saved uniforms before and after every away mission. Not ideal, but workable.
3) Multiple costume slots for BOFFs. This would be the ultimate solution, as it would let me not only do what I could before, but also actually take advantage of the new boff costume options which I would very much like to do. This would be a reasonable thing to pay zen to unlock. Maybe with the same approach as the existing costume unlocks: two extra costumes for all boffs for all characters on your account.
Hopefully we could have some of this soon! As it stands right now, for me the new costume options are a bit of a net negative (having finally gotten a bunch of rep armour, I was really looking forward to rolling through the new FE with it), but they could (and I very much want them to be) so cool!
Yes, I'm saying that's great, but that I can no longer switch between a normal uniform and a uniform that looks like combat armour on the fly, which is what I was doing before.
I don't really want my science officer to be hanging around on my bridge all day, showing up on the viewscreen and such, covered in grenades. But I want her to have that when we beam down and punch some Borg in the face.

Yes you can. Its called costume slots.
Right click on your portrate, select change outfit/costume/uniform/whatever, select outfit you want to wear, and VOILA! Instant change in clothes.
BOffs on the other hand... you're kinda SOL. *shrug*
Yes, it's always been fine for my actual captain, it's the new setup with the boffs I don't like. Costume slots for each boff would be ideal, but I would be happy to just have the "show visuals" option back in the short term.

My character Tsin'xing
Supposedly Maco/omega/kdf costumes can now be worn by BOFF's with this change.
