I cannot understand what has happened. This morning before downtime, I had crisp, clear graphics a the highest settings. The game flowed well and things were wonderful.
Since the patch, I can only call the graphics chunky and clunky. And I know the next part... play with the sliders.
Well... I did, and nothing... NOTHING changes my Captain 8bit to anything else... the exterior scenary is just as attrocious. My Starship is just as much a mess. To be honest, I have a headache from looking at my screen after 30m of attempting to muck with the settings. Plus my wife is tired of me swearing at the computer. Good lord, my eyes hurt from the strain of trying to focus, (That by the way is not hyperbole.)
I have, using the sliders, attempted every combination to sharpen the image. Nothing works. I am running on a 1920x1080 at 1080p. I have a Nvidia GTX 570 with the latest drivers and direct X.
This is a mess, please for the love of God, return the graphics to the Season 8 loveliness. I will be taking a break from the game and looking at the patch notes instead of the game. How sad.
I had the same problem. I disabled postprocessing, and everything immediately became much sharper and more detailed. The black artifacts in my captain's hair disappeared.

Display scale.
Options/Display/Resolution scale (or something like that) --> set to 1.00.
Infinite possibilities have implications that could not be completely understood if you turned this entire universe into a giant supercomputer.
Why they would muck with that I have no idea. Yet, that being said that did immediately resove my issue.
Issue fixed by setting Resolution Scale from .63 to 1 in the Display setting.
I'm glad that worked for you. It's probably a side-effect of the reorganization of the graphics setting menu, which reset all settings back to certain presets. The reorganization could be a sign of them laying the foundation for graphical improvements or what not. Key word in there is "could".
In any case, enjoy S9.

I can't speak for anyone else but all I had to do to "fix" my graphics was turn off the Cinematic Focus under Graphics. Took all of 5 seconds.
That did not work here, unfortunately. For me, everything is very fuzzy and washed out, and I mean it looks like it reverted me to the lowest possible settings. Tweaking them is doing nothing.
This graphics thing is the only thing that has spoiled the update for me. Everything was fine before the messed about with things. I like the new ESD and the story explains why we got it so it is now in context. The mission was great but for one problem with mobs getting stuck in walls.
I just hope they realise we are going to get used to this and expect more good story missions from them.

There's another thread about the graphics reset http://sto-forum.perfectworld.com/showthread.php?t=1089341. Barring that, have you tried typing int "/renderscale 1"?
Best of luck.

That actually helped my issue quite a bit. Thanks!
