I just wanted to say a little thank you to the environment team and all involved in the creation of the new ESD. It was a group effort, and you guys did an excellent on the time you had allotted to create such an awesome environment - and it's not even fully done yet! The labeling is excellent, and I love the fact that Tacofangs and the team are actively watching the forums and implementing player requested features into ESD as well. Overall, the new Sol System/Earth Spacedock will easily be one of the greatest, if not the best social zones in STO when it hits Holodeck in Season 9. It's come along way since that first Tribble patch. Keep up the good work.
crypticquack can you use your influence to make the artists open up customisation so we can make our characters/toons look like a duck, similar to howard the duck or something like that?
so i stay on topic, esd is awesome, i dont understand why people are giving artists hard time over ships out windows.

I am all for, all things duck. Putting on my sunglasses, gonna take care of this for our kind!

Despite my opinion that I feel those artistic talents were better spent elsewhere in the game that requires much love and attention, I will not deny that the new ESD looks simply fantastic and amazing and highlights just how awesome the environmental art team is.

The new ESD is nice. Just... one minor detail I want to point out. The number of TOS uniforms on display around the shops. There's a big picture of the NX class Enterprise... and there are TOS uniforms in front of it. The uniforms on display in front of the Tailor? TOS uniforms.
I'd like to suggest mixing things up a bit more. Enterprise era uniforms in front of the NX Enterprise pic, maybe Antares, Sierra, and Jupiter uniforms in the window, and a mix of other uniforms on the other displays. Not just TOS uniforms.
Other than that... you guys did an awesome job with the new ESD.

This has to be the best revamp of a map thus far. Very amazing work overall. Thank you!
One small suggestion though, why do we only have runabouts, worker bees and small shuttle craft in the shuttle bay. Why no Delta Flyers? Thanks again!
Awesome work guys just went there and....... it's simply breathtaking. One could only imagine how awesome this game would've looked, if you lot were here 4 years ago just think.
Why not? This is the 25th century, we need to showcase all the latest fashion AND the past wears as well.
Because the "New" uniforms are ugly as hell, and a hold over from when Perpetual owned the game. I would support things like the Odyssey uniform, but never the defaults.

As opposed to the thrift store shirts and ankle-length pants of TOS uniforms?
No thanks, give me the sleek, modern and utilitarian 2409 jackets over the silly TOS uniforms any day.
And personally... I hate the Antares uniforms. Sierra 1 variant looks tons better, and still fits with the style established by the TNG/DS9 uniforms.
Also... Handsome Phaser Guy would probably approve of the Sierra 1.
I like My Antares uniform. It looks a lot like the TNG uniform but with less harsh straight lines and more rounded curves. The Dept. colours are clearly visible and it's visually appealing to me.

Sadly, it would have looked much the same, as the deadlines were the problems back then, not the artists. I will say, unequivocally, that ESD looks as good as it does because we were given the time to do it.

When I went onto Tribble to look at the new ESD I was simply blown away. It's a map I have since gone back to, and will enjoy visiting again and again. The architectural design is simply stunning. The attention to detail is outstanding. With a cool shuttlebay like that, I would never want to use the transporters ever again.
I love the trees and the water features. The new signage is clean and simple, yet nice and bold. There is just the right mixture of everything. You've done an amazing job.
You guys do some amazing work, but this time, you have outdone yourselves.

Actually... I think the Odyssey and Jupiter were based on Perpetual designs, as was B01.
I seem to recall a Cryptic employee saying that one of their character leads didn't care for "space pajamas" and wanted to take the look of the game in a Mass Effect direction.
That said, with virtually every "duh, why'd they do that?" decision that Cryptic has made, one thing that has emerged for me is that there are always a few people at Cryptic at design meetings or in management who say, "Why the heck are you guys doing that?!"
And in general, I think it comes down to humoring a talented employee or manager to keep things moving along (arguing would slow things down more) or simply not having the time or options available to do what everybody generally agrees would be best (but "best" takes time they may not have and so the debate becomes about what's "good enough").
At a certain point, I think ir probably goes something like this:
"Okay. We've discussed the uniform art direction at three meetings today and four last week. There are some reservfations about this style. They look cool but are they Trek?."
"People would laugh if they looked like space pajamas. This is a game. They need the extra detail or gamers will reject it."
"Well, if you get a chance, try to get some variants on my desk that have a more traditional look but we can't hold any longer on that decision so move ahead with what you've got and we'll add to it if the players demand it. What you have is a start and it does look cool."

Back on topic ESD is gorgeous. Good going guys

Maybe add the Odyssey uniform in there.
I wouldn't be surprised if they show a random sampling at first and over time show off new uniforms added to the game.
For example, if this had existed when the jackets were introduced, each mannequin would probably have shown them off.
