Does anyone else get very choppy, laggy when they start doing ground missions or go beam in somewhere like ESD? Game runs fine in my ship but the minute my character beams in for something, the controls and graphics seem to lag.
I've kind of gotten used to it but is this a common thing for other people?
To answer you question yes. It's why I can only spend time in kerrat and a few easy stf's because the gpu stalling issue doesn't show its self so bad there... When they brought out season 8 they really screwed the game up. My little 512 ram card ran the game great until then. So I decided to upgrade to this card and graphics are way better but still get the same video lag as the 512 card....
My 2 gig radeon r7 that has way more power than this game needs gets gpu stalls constantly on any ground and in stf's with lots of asteroids such as Cure Space the new event is hardly playable for me for the same reason. Even the winter event I was unable to do the race cause of the CONSTANT gpu stalls. Don't let any one tell you that your overworking your card or anything like that because I am shure that this is the ONLY game you play that has this issue.
The new guy taking over should stop trying to add and redesign things and straighten out all the graphic bugs so we can actually play the game. New content is pointless if we can't even play it.
P.S. My card runs flawlessly on skyrim, sleeping dogs, neverwinter, Black light retribution and path of exile, so don't even try to feed me the garbage about my card not having the updated drivers or not installed properly.

This sounds like too many shadows, which computationally is VERY VERY EXPENSIVE. Easy way to tell is to just simply cut back on the number of light sources in the STO Graphics settings, and see if this improves things... And it doesn't hurt to try, as you can always change it back if nothing happens...
I've already done that, turned everything off, set things in the troubleshooting section and still same reaction from gpu. Drops to 0% gpu load. This is a cryptic/perfectworld coding that is causing this issue. before season 8 my old 512 ram card cruised through the game. I use to run laps around DS9 with that card when u purchased the omega equipment there. Guess what I had 0 issues then ran laps flawlessly. This is why I upgraded to this card and it has pretty graphics but gets GPU stalls just like my old 512 card did after season8.. Now I dread even going to any ground or any place with lots of asteroids.. I can cram max graphics on sleeping dogs with descent fps and a heat range of around 60c if I remember right and its gpu load stays up in the 90% range then. I have come to terms with cryptic doesn't care and its easier to have people buy new things than it is to fix the issues they have caused.
Have had these issues since Season 8 as well. Even built a new pc just for the game but it still has major play issues. Any battle becomes plagued with choppiness, lag, server not responding issues, not just ground. As soon as I have to deal with multiple 'players' it becomes a nightmare to play. (Players also means NPC. If they shoot...there comes the lag)
Glad its not just me. I've heard people even with mega computers have this issue. I dread beaming down for any kind of ground gameplay. My controls become so choppy. Running is a nightmare lol
the thing is, star trek online has alot of flaws and bugs. one is the huge demand on gbs, to fp's. the new computer i am getting will have 2 amd cards that will give me 114 fp's with 16gbs of memory or 8gb's. and I will have to buy alot of ram that just shocks me how much this game demands,
They Dont Like Amd!!!!!! I know this cause my stock card was a amd during season 7. Then season 8 came out I upgraded cause it was getting gpu load drops to another amd card and what do you know same issue...... Doesn't matter tho with all the junk they are adding to the game instead of fixing things I wont be givin them any more money any way.
