Probably not feasible, but what about having private outposts? Nothing fancy like a Fleet Starbase, but make it so a Vice Admiral could send out his/her officers to do patrol or exploration missions, and possibly side stories/quest. One officer could be promoted to Captain, and it would give us a reason to keep some of our lower tier starships.

    Hmm... Could require a whole world of new grind possibly...
    Its a nice idea though, could be made to tie in with the rep somehow perhaps but I don't see it happening.
    Not to say I'd be averse to the idea from an RP point of view.

    an out post could go with ship away team for when player get to be able to take up to 4 pet ship with them into battle adn fleet admital rank

    i want an outpost for myself so i can cry myself to sleep and nobody hears.

    Could definately tie in to THAT side of the game if and when it comes for sure captain data. In fact I do see something (though not exactly as the OP describes) as happening someday perhaps.

    Maybe the outpost could be used for/with smartphone apps, in addition to regular game play.

    That is a good idea, tie it in with a level rank of full admiral and send your ships off to explore.
    Like a bigger version of the Doff system.
    I'd use a game app for that :)

    Another idea would be a daily outpost defense, much like the one that is available at starbase 24, but with your officers and ships.

    I could see having your own personal outpost. When you have a squadron you could have your own private base to repair, supply and the like.

    Send ships from for missions, and give us a reason to step OUTSIDE of our ships. I LIKE IT!

    DOffs could be assigned to outpost duties such as defense and offense, like they are for ground and space support.
