TRIBBLE Maintenance and Release Notes - March 17, 2014

coldsnappedcoldsnapped Member Posts: 520 Cryptic Developer
We will be bringing down the Tribble server for maintenance to apply a new update: ST.40.20140223a.16

New Features:

Dyson Sphere Undine Battlezone:
  • The Space Battlezone can be accessed from the edge of the Contested Zone, or from the first area where you arrive in the Allied Zone.
  • This is a persistent space battlezone for level 50 Captains.
  • The Undine have arrived in the Dyson Sphere and are beginning to open rifts to lay waste to all in the area and tear apart and control this region of the Dyson Sphere.
    • Reports from various intelligence officers indicate the Undine assaulted the Voth who previously occupied the area with a massive fleet and three large planet killers. There are barely any signs left of the Voth, and now the Undine seek to tear apart the Dyson Sphere.
    • Players must regain control of the area from the Undine and bring down the planet killers that were used to assault the Voth fleet.
    • The Federation, Klingons, and Romulans have all created methods to close Undine rifts. It's up to captains to use these methods to close the Rifts.
  • This is still a work in progress.
    • Art, text, and rewards are not final.
    • Introduction cutscene is not hooked up.
    • Progress bars have the words, "Progress..." instead of their actual text.
    • Untargetable Undine ships will be floating around Romulan points.
    • You can not get back into the contested zone from the battlezone.

General:
  • New ESD:
    • Additional improvements have been made to the art, environment, vendors, and audio.
      • This is still a work in progress.
  • The Drozana console that gives out test kits is turned back on.

Known Issues:
  • The Dyson Sphere Undine Battlezone is still a work in progress.
    • This includes art, text, rewards, and gameplay.
  • Players can shoot at each other on new ESD.
  • The Reputations tab cannot be accessed.
  • The Borg and Undine episodes cannot be accessed.
  • The new queued event Undine Assault is still a work in progress.
    • This includes a placeholder boss fight.
  • The new Kit Revamp is still a work in progress.
  • There is no error explaining that loadouts and quick equip will not work if the captain’s inventory is full.
  • Powers granted by a space set are not remembered in the power tray when using the loadouts feature.

"Players can shoot at each other on new ESD."

Can we keep this until S9 launches? :p

EDIT: I know a workaround for the Launcher freeze. Open your Task Manager (default on the Ctrl+Alt+Delete menu). Go to Processes. Find the launcher's process and force it to end. Relaunch patcher. It will work after that.

So the Voth Controlled Area is now the UNDINE Controlled Area?

My launcher froze today while trying to patch Holodeck (March 13th/14th patches), it had patched the previous Tribble patch before that without any problems. Forced shutdown and restart worked.

Tonight's Tribble patch required several forced shutdowns before it finally patched.

Thank god we couldn't enter that area of space.

    Unfortunately, not working for me.

The first time, it froze at about 37% patched. The two subsequent times, it froze pretty much immediately after the status changed to "Patching."
You're right. The work here is very important.

UPDATE: I managed to patch Tribble after running a Force Verify on the game files.

I don't know if this was in the previous build or new to this build... But the inner corridors above the shipyard with the moving silhouettes of people is just a perfect touch. It greatly adds into the immersion of ESD. It make ESD come alive.

Force Verified didn't work for me either, but running the launcher as an admin worked.

It was probably destined to be a Undine/Voth zone from the start.

Cryptic pulled a fast one XD.

I guess this means the Voth are done in the sphere then.

I was having issues patching tribble earlier.

Tracked it down to the shaderCache.hogg file.

Tweeted to Brandon about it and he informed me the file in question is pretty big so may take a while to patch.

    To check if you're having the same issue;
    1. With launcher open and patching, press Ctrl+X to open the tranfers window.
    2. If it has frozen/slowed to a crawl like mine had, there should be one entry listed in the tranfers window "platformbin/pc/shaderbin/shaderCache.hogg".
    3. Sit and wait for it to patch the file, or go to \Playtest\cache within your STO folder and delete shaderCache.hogg, forcing it to redownload the file from scratch.

Technically, for new people coming into the game, we'll still have the Voth in the allied and contested areas as well as the ground zone. We'll just have a new group to contend with.

We're going from trying to stop the Voth from gaining control of the Solonae Dyson Sphere to saving the Dyson sphere from being obliterated.

No, the Undine Zone simply replaces the Voth Zone. All indications are that the Voth Ground Battlezone (and the Voth Space Battlezone above it) will remain as-is.

The new Feature Episode will probably continue the story from "A Step Between Stars". Just like how time has passed from you beginning in the tutorial to you doing stuff in the sphere, the new Undine zone is in the "future" of the contested areas.

Heck no. We gotta put our Captain Kirrahe hats on.

If the Undine take the Sphere then they get free access to the Jouret Iconian Gateway. You know the one that sits fifteen light years from Khitomer and is right on the border of the Federation, Klingon Empire, and Romulan Republic? If we lose this sphere then we're gonna have Undine pouring in like they were pouring into Borg Space back in the day. Shoot through a Carbon Neutronium door, this species shoots through planets. It doesn't matter.

The line Must be Drawn Here. This far no further.

Every enemy has been unstoppable until we came together and stopped them. When the Borg came we held the line. When the Dominion came, we held the line. Our officers, warriors and soldiers have held back the Voth, AND NOW, when the Undine come, we WILL HOLD THE LINE!!!

Oh I can't wait to see that.

As I read it the Undine Battlezone will be in the next section over from the Voth Battlezone. It seems like the Voth lost a huge chunk of their section of space. What was once halves is now thirds.

another patch, another crash on start up. deleting the play test folder in its entirety, and redownloading tribble entirely and it still crashes. what the hell is wrong with season 9?

Okay, so by some luck I was able to download the patch successfully and I was able to hop into the brand new Undine zone.

Let's just say the space battlezone more than makes up for the lack of one in the Voth round.

Looks like the Undine Space Battleground is the Voth Zone. There are three type of areas, activate 3 Klingon Satellites before they shut down, Defend Federation Device, and move Romulan Singularity. So the same type of content as the Voth Ground Battlezone. Sounds like for the final part of the zone is defeat Planet Killers which seems to use the same mechanic as the Doomsday Device for damaging it based on the Battlezone's contact's info.

Got an accolade for rescuing a damaged shuttle in the Battlezone.

For the Starbase, the Shuttle area has been changed, but still has those white blocks and there are two doors by the vendors that can either let you run on the white blocks or drop you to under the map.

The Beam To Starfleet Academy volume extends through the wall and into the ops area with Admiral Quinn. If you're facing Quinn, go as for to the right as you can up against the wall next to the console and unusable door near the ramp.
