Whilst it hasn't happened to me often, I have experienced at least one instance where the Starbase was at 100% health, the team were all healthy and the only enemy ship left was a frigate that had managed not to draw attention to itself by staying quite 'low' (almost underneath the Starbase). The frigate in question had all of 11% health left, no shields worth mentioning, and a whole bunch of torpedoes flying in it's direction, fired by every player,...... and we lost because the timer hit zero.
So, 'story'-wise, the Starbase fell to the flaming wreckage of an otherwise doomed Frigate. Yeah.... okay.......... whatever. :rolleyes:
From what I remember, it wasn't about 'that fleet' so much as the MASSIVE one following. These ships are getting information, possibly providing targeting info for the massive flotilla. Kill the scout ships, and the incoming force has no info.
At least that's how I read the info when you lose, and the briefing.
If they refuse to fix the broken "leave with full marks so I can go again" exploit, they should remove the DUMB AS HECK FAIL TIMER so the 2 or 3 people that stay can still win. We are not all 250k dps monsters --- see, we are doing this fleet alert thingy so we can start to get some of the better gear and ships --- and when only 2 or 3 of us face the boss wave, sometimes the timer beats us even with an intact starbase and a winning strategy.
Last night I had an epic win, me in my weaksauce BOP and a scimitar beat the final wave, but most of the time partial groups fail. We just barely made the timer, I died once and it was less than 5 seconds left to fail at the end. The base was fine, think it had yellow shields.
Just remove the timer already. If they blow up the base, they win. Problem solved.
The Scimitar in FA is incredibly easy to defeat. Why? Because unlike Donatra, IT DOESN'T CHEAT.
You want to keep it from cloaking? Gravity well, Tractor Beam, Cloaking Tractor Mines (these are probably the best, since it usually will never target them, and they keep a continuous tractor beam until destroyed). You can disable it's aux. You can hit it with a VM. PSW will also decloak it. Jem'hadar AP sweep. All standard decloak methods work on this ship.
But then again, in FA all you usually see are dakka boats, not control boats. *shrugs*
Basically ANYTHING that decloaks a player Rommie Warbird will decloak the FA scimitar. Donatra is the only Scimitar that cheats horribly.
It is said the best weapon is one that is never fired. I disagree. The best weapon is one you only have to fire... once.
