Honestly, Arc is slightly annoying, but not worth all of this doom and gloom people are talking about it, as i said in another thread, A LOT of companies are doing things, NCsoft and Battle.net already have their own grouped launcher.

The former is a resource featherweight compared to Arc, the latter is entirely optional - and easy to miss altogether if you're not actively looking for a way to DL it. Neither one bombards you with ads or tries to install snooping programs on your web browser.

Nope, Actually, NCsoft was far worse for my computer than Arc. and Arc has not done anything more than what steam, NCsoft, etc has done.
Also, To play hearthstone, I HAD to download Battle.nets multi-game launcher, no other option.
You do realise Google spy's on every little thing you do if you have chrome or the Google bar or even use Google.

Pretty much. I personally have no need for it since I play through Steam, but yeah a lot of this seems to be an overreaction. Not wantungnto have to use it I get, the rest not so much.
I've run Arc - it was the only way to tell how badly it would bog my system down. (Not too bad on STO; makes CO unplayable. Thank Gabe for Steam!) I have no idea what "ads" some of you are on about; I wasn't "bombarded" with anything except a system slowdown, and in STO that lasts for about two or three minutes and then goes away.
Nitpicking is a time-honored tradition of science fiction. Asking your readers not to worry about the "little things" is like asking a dog not to sniff at people's crotches. If there's something that appears to violate natural laws, then you can expect someone's going to point it out. That's just the way things are.
And what exactly are you saying about the Chinese eh?
As far as I can recall from my history lessons, they were not the ones to start 2 previous world wars - so, if we should be worried about anyone........
You are so right, China was under the KMT Nationalist government for the previous world wars... not the "communist" government you love today. With that I apologize as this discussion is going beyond the intent of the forum and I graciously bow out.

That is odd. The redirect took me directly to the ARC STO page, and there was a very big Forum button near the top to click on, right between News and Guides.
i now have it bookmarked, but.. I clicked on sto, cause it did not redirect me to the sto page, but to the front page of all that is arc.. and then I clicked on forum thinking it would bring me to the sto forums (cause I was on the sto page) and no, it took me back to a generic all things pwe page, where I had to click again, to go to the sto forums..
its a very poorly built site.. and to be honest, it is a little cheeky that they turned my sto experience into a shopping mall, advertisements every where you look, its like having a sales man up my butt everytime I attempt to log in.. mark my words, we will soon have ingame adds for other pwe games..
its insulting that this is a low they are perfectly happy with going to..
I for one will not download arc onto my computer again.. I got rid of it cause it killed my performance while gaming.. (as I play everything in 3d.). and often, even if I turned it off, it would magically turn itself back on (which is why it got the boot off my system.)..
this is not meant for the player base, but more for any cryptic employee reading this feedback.. I will not, and I repeat, will not continue to play sto, if I am forced to use arc or steam.. I currently use tridef to launch the game, and will continue to do that.. but I will not download anything else that is useless towards launching the game.. if that means no longer playing sto, than so be it.. there are pleanty of other games that do not require me to download what is basically spyware to play their games..
Ah, name calling, the last resort when logic runs out. You sure got there quick. BTW, the correct word you are looking for is prejudice and I have earned that bias. It's obvious this part of the world is not understood by all so please, lets drop this thread and get back to gaming.
Been using ARC since day 1 that it was first released on beta. No performance issues. Doesn't use that much of my resources. ARC is not bloat ware as it does not even meet the requirements of what bloat ware is. Never had a single issue using ARC to launch any of my games. You can even add short cuts to other non-pwe/cryptic games so if you play other games like single player games. You can put the short cut on the ARC launcher and remove the short cuts off your desktop screen.
you can also use it to load non-game software, I have put a shortcut for my PS controller app that I use for space combat and a shortcut for RaidCall voice chat software that I use when chatting with fleeties.
You are aware that every single License Agreement has a clause that allows the license holder to completely ignore the License Agreement and do whatever the scrap they feel like to you, right?
In the case of the Arc software:
Translation: We can change the rules whenever we feel like it, you automatically agree to any and all changes the nanosecond we change it and post it here, and you agree that we don't have to tell you anything about it.
that's much the same agreement as the one for actually playing sto in the first place then is it?
so ive ran steam on my main here and ARC on the backup for a short time, in the time i had it on the backup computer the game stuttered, was slow and generally i found it irritating, after finding a cryptic launcher i could use, i removed arc and put the launcher on it, now it no longer stutters and slow taking up computer resources.
on my main ive had steam on it for a while and have reports no problems about it at all, it certainly doesnt take up resources in the same way ARC does and its not as intrusive by wanting to stay in the background and not filling the launcher up with adverts.
now if it contains all those nasties your writing about, ARC needs to be independently tested and verified. If PWE decides to or not is not my concern as i dont run it any more. however i was told a while back that PWE intention was not to fill it with such stuff, however intentions are one thing, nor do i wish a second argument about it.
as for EULA changes, not even EA has to announce to the community its making changes, they can do so without your consent or knowledge and PWE has chosen not to, so it shouldnt take long to find the EULA and ToS and keep an eye on any changes.
the results of this test are unclear as we don't know the overall specs of your 2 platforms, to get a true result you would need to test both launchers on both platforms before forming an opinion.
I am not particularly in favour of arc but having tried it I don't see any problem in using it and the game is far too important to me plus I have too much play time and money invested in the game for me to give up just because they choose to change the launcher.
Any program that collects information on your system without your authorization OR ability to disable it from the moment of installation (aka its not like you launch it the first time, it collects the data and sends it to its masters and THEN you're allowed to disable the feature from keeping its masters updated...they already got the g-damn info!)... is spyware.
there is a box with a tick when you are installing arc that says you agree to share data, if you do not remove the tick you are in effect authorizing them to collect the data, the ability to disable data collection is there by removing the tick. no spying involved at all.
there are so many people who merrily click next, next, next when installing software and never actually bother to read whats on the screen and what they are agreeing to.
When I think about everything we've been through together,
maybe it's not the destination that matters, maybe it's the journey,
and if that journey takes a little longer,
so we can do something we all believe in,
I can't think of any place I'd rather be or any people I'd rather be with.
