I should be clear, mind you - padding is still damage being done. It's not imaginary damage or anything, lol...
Agreed. I didn't think of a negative meaning when using the word 'padding' (just remembered the term 'stat-padding' and it's very negative meaning in other games, that's not what I had in mind here)
I was thinking of it as 'waste' as in "X amount of the ships potential was wasted on pseudo-indestructible targets", which I think is useful to show the ships total potential or tell you how much overhead you have to factor in when planning a build to achieve similar results.
Ah, ok. Not having any desire to buy the ship, I never looked closely at the console, but that kills the AP set for rom ships (not an ap build, just that set).
IMHO builds should be tested on a single target (use aoe skills on it if that is in your build). Much easier to repeat and control, for example, solo chew down an elite borg gate or umarex ship or whatever controlled test. The aoe parses are more or less garbage to me.
For that matter, immortal gates that cant be damaged would make *excellent* target dummies for a long running parse of single target dps that is easy to repeat...
Gets a wee bit more complicated from there as far as the possibilities (and this is all before we hit CrtD/DR)...so I'll break out some underlining! Wheeee!
Would be the "high" (note, I'm not sure where to fit in the +Borg Damage DOFF - so it's missing from these calculations, when I get an answer - I'll add that in) damage to this point...before Critical Severity from Crits as well as Debuffs to DR.
So we'd be looking at around 9267.5115225 damage before any of the debuffs came into play. Given the stacked APB from the Weavers, APB from the Recluse, alternating or running the APB from Scim instead of the APO...don't forget we're either missing 10% pre Weapon Power or post Weapon Power...it wouldn't be hard to see that average of over 9k with the AP FAW3. There would be the higher hits and lower hits, averaging out. There was a max hit of 27759 with the AP FAW3...so yeah, the 9k is just an average of the highs and lows.
But this isn't the too much damage thread, it's the Rom Plas vs.AP thread...
So what should the CrtH looked like? Again, I'm just looking at the AP FAW3 aspect here - not the overall damage. So it's only a partial view...but the logger reported a 30.678% crit rate (104 of the 340 attacks...there was actually a miss (makes no sense - curious)).
Wouldn't always be that high, but up to that high...
Using the STO-CombatLogReader (omegashoker's) - we can actually pop into some Advanced Calculations...
The Avg for the Non-Crit AP FAW3 was 7720, while the Avg for the Crit was 12359. That suggest a CrtD of ~60%...that's massively lower than what would be expected. There's a thread around here, no?, talking about how that's broken? Even without APA3 and Accuracy Overflow, it should have still been +128%. So the Crit Average should have been somewhere between 17601.6 to 22828.04 instead, eh?
That's makes what I was going to look at tougher, since it does not appear to be calculating Critical Damage correctly.
Let's take a look at it, even with the low-end, eh?
Non-Crit Damage: 1814194
Non-Crit Average: 7720
Crit Average: 17601.6
Crit Damage: 1830566.4
Total Damage: 3644760.4 (instead of the listed 3099560)
Now if we run the same as Rom Plas w/o the +20% CrtD...no procs.
We're at 3484184.4 / 3644760.4 = 95.59% the damage
If the Disruptor Proc had the uptime and provided at least a 4.41% increase because of debuffing DR further...then Rom Plas should do more damage...before adding in any random PDoT ticks along the way.
But as I said earlier, the probability of that - well, Rom Plas is better with more Rom Plas. My experience since the introduction of the Rom Plas has been the Rom Plas...but here we have non OB AP shelling out huge numbers, eh?
It has me curious...could Mal increase DPS by sticking to the same build, but having the three folks that go the other way go Rom Plas? Could you speed up the other side, reduce the overall duration of the encounter and thus increase the DPS in that manner?
Meh, I so need to get over this cold...can't think straight. Meh, maybe somebody can make sense of what I'm pondering there...
For that matter, immortal gates that cant be damaged would make *excellent* target dummies for a long running parse of single target dps that is easy to repeat...
Would be nifty if folks could set something like that up in the Foundry - basically create the target dummy. Though much like target dummies in other games, it would be nifty if Cryptic created an instance for us - where there were various variables for the target dummies so things could be tested (different resistances, different defenses, different groupings (multiple targets), etc, etc, etc)...oh well.

People test on starbase 234 in tau dewa system. It's just one target though.
Wondering whether someone "cheated" on their dps parser log is a waste of time. Dps parser log itself is a waste of time. It's like that vaunted 100k dps kumari. It sounded impressive until you realized it was a rigged setup done in mirror event, with vestas sucking in deeply debuffed rats for the kumari to sit at point blank range to cycle csv and spawn green globs into. Stf completion times are what matters.

I used to recommend it back during the LoR beta, but it was nerfed. Went from 10k DPS was barely a tickle to 10k DPS would obliterate it. It's also kind of annoying as just a short term target dummy because of the time limit on the encounter.

Heh, everybody has their own thing. I've kind of already said that I just kind of fly around going whee - considering you can put out over 10k DPS easily doing that, having five folks doing that, there's no worries getting the optional and being done relatively quickly.
The folks I tend to be most interested in reading/seeing/watching are the minimalists. The folks that can solo ISE with the most minimal gear. That challenge...
Others like the challenge of the most DPS or as you said the fastest times.
Parsing for me has always mainly been about testing - getting the mechanics down...and typing out eyebleed posts. :P

What kind of CrtD are we looking at?
Base: 50%
Covert Operative (Rom Captain): + 3.8% = 53.8%
4x Superior Operative (Rom BOFF): + (4 * 5%) = + 20% = +73.8%
