So does anyone know whats going on with the flank bonus? Or is this all conjecture? Seriously - I shelled out money for an Enhanced Battle-Cloaking B'Rel based on this flank bonus as the forums suggested it wasnt really worth it otherwise. Anyone else buy one for the same reason? - are we getting screwed? Would kind of appreciate an answer on this from a Dev.

It would've been better to wait until the bonus actually came out for KDF BoPs. All it exists on right now is the Plesh Brek 'raider', and it appears to have some issues. Whether Cryptic will iron 'em out and then apply them onto BoPs. . .I dunno. They do appear to be trying to give the KDF something to gnaw on. We'll see what happens, I guess, there's not much we can do about it.
That being said, the B'rel Retrofit is still a worthy purchase even without the flanking. It should serve you well. It's not as good at damage-dealing as the Romulan T'varo, but it's still useful without the flanking bonus. The ships that really need that bonus are the regular-battlecloak BoPs. Half the players that run those rely on burst DPS, and having a boost, even a small one, would be useful.
thers nothing wrong with flanking, no bugs, it just works. they just haven't allotted the time to update bops because they are too busy tripping over seasons, half season, anniversaries, seasonal events, 9 packs, developing the next seasons, and creating the next couple of ships that will make them new money. thus no time to tweek things they already shiped, tweaking bops wont make them any money really.
its still in hela poor taste not to have updated bops by now though
Seemed pretty much obvious to me when it was announced that it would not be done until sometime later when they had free time to do all the other stuff they have deferred over the years. They came up with a cute easy free mechanic (more damage from doing what people already do, shoot from the rear) that was OP on BOPs with another cute easy free mechanic (more damage from doing what people already do, shoot while decloaking), and whups its too much damage but we dont have time to think of a better mechanic so we will deal with it "later". Much later.

I shelled out cash for it hoping it would fire like General Chang's in ST6. Instead we got a lame decloak/cloak mechanic because of Fed whining.

It didn't help that about a year ago the description also stated that this assumption was in fact well fact. I also bought the B'Rel due to that false advertising. I too wasn't impressed and well all I can say is it's not our of character for Cryptic unfortunately.
Support the Game by Supporting the KDF, equality and uniqueness for all factions!
Consistently attacking an enemy's rear arc (where their aft shield facing is) can require some clever positioning, practice and planning. Flanking requires that you strike the rear arc of the target ship and will provide a 33% damage bonus. It should be noted that this damage bonus is significantly reduced against players and it doesn't apply to mines and summon powers like the Scorpion Fighter device, Gravity Well or Tyken's Rift. It does apply to all energy weapons, all torpedoes (that don't spawn mines) and damage powers like Tractor Beam and Photonic Shockwave.
Our goal is to use the Plesh Brek's Flanking ability as a prototype to fine to tune it before eventually rolling it out to Klingon Raiders along with some other minor improvements to these ships. It should be noted that Klingon Raiders will receive a slightly weaker version Flanking bonus (+25% instead of the Plesh Brek's +33%).
PITA to find things with the site changes (they need to fix that so it's more accessible)...but anyway, so yeah...that last bit:
"Our goal is to use the Plesh Brek's Flanking ability as a prototype to fine to tune it before eventually rolling it out to Klingon Raiders along with some other minor improvements to these ships."
"Eventually..."
"Along with some other minor improvements..."
Given that they've already figured the Flanking bonus to be 25% instead of 33%; think it would be safe to say they're generally fine with the Flanking aspect...eh? That most likely it's tied to the eventually and other minor improvements aspect...perhaps?
I'm neither a Cryptic Fanboi nor a Cryptic Apologist, but did anybody honestly expect this to happen before March/April? Folks kind of knew what was on Cryptic's schedule (not specifics, but the general gist)...so did folks honestly expect it before a certain point? Now, if we were around the same time in May right now...oh yeah, definitely imho...it would be a case of breaking out the WTF Cryptic????
I kind of get that most of the time based on how they reveal things they usually rush after holidays to push out anniversary in time. Yes I do agree to expect it before april or may was just wishful thinking. The funny part is the new EP said Season 9 to be released in April which is much sooner than usual. Their releases are usually in the beginning of summer and around thanksgiving. Although some of that interview where this was stated it was more likely its being pushed up because most players even with a lot of alts are max tier in every rep on every character they play the normal gameplay on due to the sponsorship was able to boost the speed. So they didn't have much of a choice in the matter but to a much earlier release especially with the bonus mark event I would imagine we would see an earlier than stated release because if it wasn't for expertise requirements on those alts that were not stf geared I would have nothing really to grind for.
So in alll and looking it realistically based on history of KDF as well earliest we might actually see flanking and minor bop changes would be either season 10 or 11. Maybe possibly 12 due to the fact Geko said in a podcast over 12 months ago they were almost done with a c-store negh'var and said it was a little too late to put it in season 7 and technically that was like 4 release cycles with S7, LoR, Season 8, and 8.5 now. Not to mention the broken costumes and all of that sits on the back burner and a guy creeping along with the broom sweeping other stuff under the carpet.

Why in the world do we need a c-store Negh'var? Cruisers are sufficiently represented already. Heck, we just got the Mogh, another one is not needed, they're probably just making it to go along with a wide-angle torpedo or something. The BoP and Raptor lines are what need to be seriously looked at. BoPs need to be upgraded overall and they should come out with some more raptor/destroyers like the Pegh'qu.

Agreed. A Raptor with the MVAE layout (or lt cmdr uni) and a competetive (non-inherently nerfed compared to Rommie Warbirds) BoP. I'd buy both, for sure.
There's an indicator on your target HUD(a little triangle) that shows you what shield facing you're firing at.... sad thing is that the flanking doesn't work on the Crystal entity OR on any destructible structures.... making it useless in several STFs.
errr, it does work on the entity...i know, because i've been firing on it and seen the damage numbers flying up with the flank tag in front of them
don't know about structures, though; i'll be sure to pay close attention next time i'm firing on one
EDIT: confirmed on the entity; i just went into a CCE match and went around to the entity's rear, then started firing on it; all the damage numbers had the Flank tag in front, so flanking does work on the entity
A normie goes "Oh, what's this?"
An otaku goes "UwU, what's this?"
A furry goes "OwO, what's this?"
A werewolf goes "Awoo, what's this?"
"It's nothing personal, I just don't feel like I've gotten to know a person until I've sniffed their crotch." "We said 'no' to Mr. Curiosity. We're not home. Curiosity is not welcome, it is not to be invited in. Curiosity...is bad. It gets you in trouble, it gets you killed, and more importantly...it makes you poor!"
Passion and Serenity are one.
I gain power by understanding both.
In the chaos of their battle, I bring order.

it works on borg structures in STFs but sometimes the back end is in weird places. The best way to find the rear is to use a subspace jump console if you have it. So far, I haven't found anything that doesn't allow for flanking.

all they need to do is a fleet version of the tier 3 and tier 4 raptor. the tier 3 can have the MVAM station setup, and the tier 4 the armatige setup. since they lack a separation mode and hanger, make sure they have 5 tac consoles (a first for a kdf ship with a COM tac :rolleyes::rolleyes:), and maybe an ENS uni.

That would be nice along with fleet quality raptor getting .99 shield mod, don't raptors already not have the defense bonus to make up for non-combat cloak?.. Possibility give them all combat cloak, buff the rommie and kdf destoryers to .99 shield level too.
Kdf also need a raptor 3-pack, a BOP 3-pack. To even out their main classes of ships like fed have science and escort and cruiser.
5 fore weapon 1 aft bop 3 pack just saying, that would be awesome, and different. I would level up a toon specifically for this.
Give Raptor 3-pack a hanger and a nice lt com universal, it will be fine, with one have 5 tac slots.
But seriously BOPs don't have their upgrade yet that's disheartening
Back when the 8.5 addition to S8 was announced I asked BranFlakes wheather the new BoP flanking mechanic will make an appearance on the KDF raiders in that update. He said that it won't be in the 8.5 update, but he's expecting it to be implemented shortly after.
Based on that and on my previous knowledge of Cryptic, I say that we could probably realisticaly expect this to come to KDF raiders with the launch of S9.
Flanking is not really top-priority right now, that's what I'm thinking. I think important stuff like Arc and Season 9 are the main things that need to be worked on.

Dude, give me a break with the Arc thing already and stop posting it all around in every single section of the forum. In case you didn't notice what you're doing is counterproductive.
Also in case you didn't know, PWE is developing Arc not Cryptic so your point is moot.

Yeah, i have been waiting for a Fleet Pach Raptor for a very long time... i always wanted to use the Puyjaq skin on it that i got years ago.
5 tac console would sound just about right for it for it..
5 fore weapon 2 aft weapon slots would also sound right with the Fleet Pach Raptor as well even though Pach itself does not look it while the Puyjaq does, due to it's vicious sleek profile with its forward mounted cannon pods... but realistically 5 tac consoles have a better chance alone than the 5 fore weapons or the combination of both with the Cryptic team unless they want to make it more unique than other future planned Raptors, Fleet or otherwise (If Any)
