If STO were real, war would be an absolute nightmare. Everyone would have cloaks and would sit in their cloaks until they had an easy target to ambush. But because no one wants to be the cannon fodder, we'd all be in our cloaks and would never leave it until we're at a star base or planet. The side that has 20 fleets would do little better off than the side with 5 because one cloaked fleet would be all it takes to hammer any base or installation with troops spread thin into oblivion. In fact we'd all most likely be dead. All it would take is one scim sitting in a cloak charging it's planet killing radiation gun. Decloak to fire and BAM. Every planet in the galaxy is dead before any of them can react or stop them. That's assuming of course we weren't already assimilated, if Star Trek were real and the borg had a transwarp hub that conveniently went to Earth you can be sure anyone with half a brain would send 10 cubes Earths way before we knew what hit us.
People think Norcal is SF or Sacramento.... I live in Norcal the state of Jefferson...20 minutes from the Oregon border.....you know..way up north with Santa claus....
Today we fight the GAULS......monstrous and HAIRY beyond reason.

heh, I'm from NC. All this talk of North California reminds me of my girlfriend's mom (who is from the Bay area) describing California as a "hell hole". That and Robin, my girlfriend, describes the vast majority of California that isn't SF as "ghetto".
I like to experience more realistic space combat by turning the sound down completely every time I'm in space. Something about sound not being able to carry without atmosphere, or not, or whatever.
Artificial space sounds provided by Artificial Space Sounds, Inc., a division of Ferengico.
if it were real, I have high hopes for the future. I can live with a society that allows you to carry your weaponry at all times, right up to the leader of your faction, without question.
if it were real, I would be dead or assimilated by now.
if it were real, there would not be refrigerator sized computers all over the place like 1975.

Yeah, if anyone ever did a proper ret-con of Star Trek to bring it entirely up to date, things certainly wouldn't look like they do now.
If STO were real, bounty hunters across the galaxy would be trying to find the OP's planet- the one sort of like Risa, but with clothing rules like they used to have on Ferenginar. :P
