Yeah, a simple "Beam up" prompt when you step onto the Ops transporter pad would be cool...bonus points for a Cardassian transporter animation!
You're right, of course...that wasn't what the poster was suggesting, though.
On the series, basically all non-station personnel (and station personnel most of the time, for that matter) were depicted as physically docking with the station and entering through the docking ring/airlocks.
I would support either building the never-built-on-the-show Promenade transporter room, or simply having everybody spawn in at the shipyard airlocks, as if we'd docked.
Or actually build the docking tubes with the big "cog" doors, and have your toon appear just inside and have to go through the short tube and door. Could also be used in missions when someone tries to depressurize you, like when Quark was Grand Nagus.
Nothing breaks the tension better than a tankard of warnog - except maybe a good brawl...
Taco, I know ESD needs a revamp first. But, correct me if I'm wrong, aren't you guys revamping the Borg/Undine Arc? I know you guys will probably redo the Romulan mission (if only to get rid of Divide Et Impera), so why not justify redoing the Cardie arc (which while fun is very unpolished and cross factioned) and make the new DS9 part of that revamp.
Deep Space Nine was the Max Level Hub in this game. I think it should remain so and as such, I would like to make a few suggestions though:
Quark's, if intergrated needs to have tables on the second floor of the promendade, we saw the cast eat there on ocassion and would add life to second floor.
The Second Floor needs uses. Maybe a few diplo/Maurading CXP dailies where you help out a cafe owner or something?
Unique Vendors: DS9 is the second most popular social zone already. And since its the gateway to the Gamma Quadrant as well as home to the Bajorans, Cardies, and Ferasans on the AQ side. Give us some unique items that can only be bought here like say some consumables unique to the region (like a Ferasan Nepeta stimulant).
Habitat Ring/Docking Ring PVE. Build the zones for use in the social map but then use them for a search and destroy PVE where you have to seek out a Changeling infiltrator like Sisko and Kira did in "Way of the Warrior."
Have the wormhole disappear and appear like in Space. It bothers me that its always on in DS9 atm. Some times I'd like to see just black space.
The conference room on the Habitat Ring should be accessable. Maybe have a special Daily Assignment officer in there. You'll get to do a daily on the DS9 maps giving some minor functionality and rewards for doing so.
STAIRCASES. Sorry, they're a must have for me. I dont mind having turbolifts around, but they should be the DS9 open cage ones IMO. Besides that the staircases are big part of DS9's aesthetics.
GPL Usage HUB. Quark has his hands on everything on DS9 and GPL was the money of choice in these parts. Perhaps the merchants could use Latinum instead of Energy Credits on DS9. Wouldn't hurt Quark's profit margin if it meant more people were hitting the Dabo Table. Its a minor thing but it might make DS9 stand out a bit more.
Seek the Prophets: we have an Orb on DS9. Why not have the player meditate on it and get a buff like the bloodwine on the KDF Starbase? Its a little thing but its a cool idea.
I'll be honest, I'm very passionate about a DS9 revamp. My first act upon completing the Tutorial in STO was to head to DS9. I would love for the zone to reach its full potential.
Make the second floor of the promenade for all of the embassies we read about in Path to 2409. Have some special race recruitment officers there, as well as vendors selling race-specific items, some DOFF assignments, or even a new series of intelligence missions that involve spying and sneaking rather than combat.
Nothing breaks the tension better than a tankard of warnog - except maybe a good brawl...
Greetings. I hope I'm not violating any rules by bumping a year old thread; I searched for mentions of the in-game Ops table and specifically, how it seems to be rather... unfinished. :P
I ended up in this thread among others and found it so interesting that I read through the whole thing.
As a DS9 fan obviously I support the revamping of it as well. After reading this thread (and several others on the subject), I've come to the conclusion that it's not a matter of if but moreso a matter of when. Which means I have something to look forward to.
I love the fact that we have a DS9 to wander around in and the overall feel is pretty cool but I agree with what others have stated that the current model doesn't entirely do DS9 justice. Not yet anyway. It's coming a long way but it's not there yet.
Oh ya, and the Promenade's "Transporter Room" Spot was eventually used, in at least one episode (Second to last episode - The Dogs of War), as a little trinket shop that Ezri and Bashir wander around in for a while.
Interesting to hear how that space was originally intended as a transporter room. In the episode "Necessary Evil" of Season 2, Quark and Rom break into the room to retrieve a list of Bajoran names. The room is mentioned to be a former chemical shop.
In a flashback scene to the Terok Nor days, Gul Dukat summons Odo to that room where he gives Odo what seems to be his first murder case.
It seems to me that the show steered away from the idea of having a transporter on the Promenade. Perhaps they found that receiving people through the various airlocks was considered more elegant or something. I would anyway.
Personally I don't mind that we transport directly unto the Promenade, as opposed to ending up inside a transporter room. Our ships can beam us to anywhere we want so it doesn't matter too much in my opinion. The only way we would end up on a station's transporter pad, is when the station beams us off of our ships instead of us beaming ourselves onto the station.
In DS9's case the station would only beam people from ships when they were in danger. In those events, people would always end up on the Ops transporter pad.
Everyone else would enter through an airlock by means of docking their ships to either the docking ring or one of the pylons. With that in mind I do think it would be more elegant if we ended up entering through one of the airlocks when we "approach Deep Space Nine" and "commence the docking procedure".
There are several ways to go about that. If you dock with a pylon, the first and only thing you see when you enter through an airlock is a turbolift door. I guess that would be the easiest implementation. Then there is the option to airlock onto the Promenade. That one could prove more challenging perhaps.
