Suggestion for Cross-Faction Character Creation

I've seen a few requests for people wanting a toon of so-and-so species in an enemy faction, so here's my suggestion on a way to implement it:

New C-Store Item: Defection Contact

Once purchased, you may create a Federation or Klingon toon using any species available to the oppisite faction. (Notice I didn't mention the Romulan Republic; I'll get to that later.) To prevent spamming these toons to the point that the factions are more foe than friend, the item would have a high cost (I was thinking 1,500 Zen) and/or be limited to one or two each for Fed and Klink.

A few things that would have to happen. First of all, there would have to be some uniform tweaks to make sure that the likes of Gorn, Benzite, and Kitty-Cat defectors don't look too weird in their uniforms. (This could also be an opportunity to allow more customization of Diplomacy/Marauding BOffs.) Also, when dialog reflects the player's species (such as the sendoff toast during the Fed tutorial) there would have to be some lines added for toons from an enemy faction.

Now I'm probably going to get some flak for this, but I don't think the Romulan Republic (or any future "fRactions") should be involved in the cross-faction system. It's something of a hallmark for the Rommies (and probably for any future fRactions) that species selection is limited, and I think it should stay that way. If cross-faction toons are allowed in it, I would predict that the Republic could easily become more defectors than true Romulans/Remans, because players would naturally start going with them simply because they increase the selection. As for Romulans/Remans becoming full/fledged members of the Federation, I personally think that the split-faction system comes close enough to not bother with allowing full membership.

Besides, from an in-universe standpoint, it makes sense. What member of the prosperous Federation/Empire would voluntarily join such a "green" faction? (Green as in newbie, but in retrospect, they're green in the literal sense, too. :P) And Romulans/Remans who start off on Virinat do not yet have the attention of the Federation/Empire, so they're are not likely to be picked up as defectors.

With that said... *deploys flame shield* ...Any thoughts?
For personal reasons, I've left Star Trek Online.

Having all these cross-faction species will eliminate one of the points of having factions.

I have moved this thread. This might not be the best location, but it's more appropriate than the Controls and UI forum and has a greater chance that someone who makes decisions about the C-Store will see it.
