Make bat'leths a little smaller, and give them a charge ability

I noticed, when switching from my Falchion-wielding Fed to my Bat'leth-wielding KDF, that the falchion wielder can charge a short distance to attack, while bat'leths are extremely limited in range, and therefore usefulness. I suggest giving them the same range, if not greater, since they are from a more aggressive culture.

Also, the bat'leths in the TV shows (The Next Generation at least, see the episode where Alexander does not want to perform the First Rite of Ascension) are much smaller, and more maneuverable-looking.

I wouldn't call bat'leths useless, myslef and many others use them to great success, but I agree that most of them are a bit oversized and need a small reduction in the size.
The only one that needs no adjustment is the Kahless Shard Sword, I find it perfect.

And while we're at it, how about the mek'leth and d'k tahg Cryptic? It has only been....what...4 years?

Sometimes I use a bat'leth specifically because it DOES NOT come with the charge. The usefulness is about the same, but there are times when getting stuck in a charge animation can kill you, especially when doing Into the Hive.

What they do need to fix is the placement of the hands while holding the bat'leth. I'm tired of cutting off my fingers.

Perhaps a toggle for all melee weapon charges, then. But I don't like the fact that you knock your enemies back, then can't charge to catch up to them.

Yes this, even make it a KDF weapon pack bound to KDF and KDF Romulans and put it in the c-store for a moderate price. 100-200 zen or something. I'd certainly buy it if they are better than the current melee weapons.

Then give the Federation the Andorian ice-cutting tool and some other species weapons so they too can get what they have been asking for, for so long as well.

Bang everyone is happy and we all get new melee weapons. :D

I constantly asked Cryptic about a d'k tahg + mek'leth pack and ushaan + kar'takin pack in the C-Store, just like the current bat'leth+lirpa one that is availible...and then they decided to discontinue the 'Ask Cryptic'. :(

Discontinuing it was the worst decision ever. It gave the community the opportunity to ask the Dev's and show them what mattered to them. True they always choose to answer the fluff and easy questions, still they got to see what mattered most to those who managed to post in the tread.

In many ways STO has lost as much as it has gained in the past few years. So many good things have gone that once made STO really stick out compared to other MMOs.

I agree the bat'leths in STO are too large compared to what was seen on screen. The grip animation also needs some work because if the standard bat'leth grip is used on the "shard sword of Kahless" which is available as a mission drop then my characters look like they are holding the shard sword of kahless by one of the blades ... as if they are trying to slice open their own hand.

I think the bat'leths are fine in combat other than the visual issues I just mentioned.

On the other hand, I'm very annoyed that we still don't have access to the mek'leth as a ground melee weapon for players. The mek'leth is available for Klingon NPC to use against us in combat but there are no mek'leths in the game that players can use.

Worf used the mek'leth multiple times on DS9 and in TNG movies. There was even a DS9 episode where Work and Dax got into a lengthy debate over whether the mek'leth was a better weapon than the bat'leth (Worf proved that it is during that episode).

The mek'leth also shows up as a wall decoration on the bridge of the new Hirogen ships, which makes me want one in the game even more.

So, if the devs are going to work on the bat'leths then I hope they bring the mek'leth into the game for players.

Don't believe the lies in this forum. I am NOT an ARC user. I play STO on Steam or not at all.

I completely agree. ^ Make it so, Devs.

Mainly because Michael Dorn, who loved using the Bat'leth, really wanted a 1h weapon for use in closer quarters on set, which incidentally would be a good deal lighter(!) and not as tiring for him to use as an actor over the course of however many takes were needed to make the director happy. The Bat'leth is a fantastic "open field" weapon where you've got plenty of space to work with (such as on location shoots and in wide open studio stages), but can be a bit of a challenge to use "freely" in tighter spaces and with sufficient control to avoid potentially injuring a stuntman working with you in a scene.

I couldn't agree more. Bat'leths (and lirpas) need that 12 meter charge bonus provided to swords. At the moment, they are inferior to all other weapons within the game. Well, except perhaps the Wide Beam Pistol and Assault Miniguns.

I never use batleths because of this, no point when swords can let you charge 7k to your target even through borg fuse armor. I would like to see more batleths instead of swords though so I hope this gets changed.
