The anniversary used to be subtitled a player appreciation event.
Given that this year we have.....
A grind to get the 'free' ship
They've cancelled hourly events and will put them on the weekend, with the logic of providing a chance for those who can only play then to participate. Nice.
So why have they designed this anniversary grind so those same weekend players cant get any ship at all without using lobi?
Why refuse to even acknowledge a 1700 post thread critical of these design choices for a week?
Why set up an anniversary event that punishes those with more toons, when customer for customer they probably spend more than most?
All in all, I feel less appreciated this year.
So, to show my appreciation, I'll not be buying any more zen until I do feel appreciated again.
I'm not going anywhere, I have my LTS, so you cant haz my stuff......but no zen for cryptic until there is some form of acknowledgement that all is not universally wonderful in STO land.
...talking to players is like being a mall Santa. Everyone immediately wants to tell you all of the things they want, and you are absolutely powerless to deliver 99% of them.

How appreciated do YOU feel?
I feel extremely appreciated. Just because you don't doesn't mean everyone else feels like you.
I feel like a customer who's getting what he's paid for. I keep coming back for business. I've been impressed with the responsiveness and communication of the developers. I'm generally satisfied with the constant updates of content.
Don't get me wrong, it's not all peaches and cake. But generally speaking, I'm satisfied.
Well...it is to be expected...grind for shiney`s..all the way. Does it give me that special Star Trek feeling? No, not at all..But hey, f2p huh. But the longer i`m playing this game, the more i feel..lost. And i`ve been here quite some time.
For me it`s time to take a serious big break again from the game, so i`ll probably hook up on a daily basis again when Risa starts again. Hopefully things will have improved a bit then, but i`m not counting on it. Let the Grind Commence in between that time.
I really don't get the feeling of being appreciated as customers. I feel more like animals in pins, getting fattened up for the slaughter.
Sure they gave us gifts, but that's like a bribe to blind of with the truth. And the grind had completely killed gameplay. All I have done since they introduced Starbases was log on and work on Dilithum and Fleet Marks with little time to do anything else. It's a job we don't get paid for.
they probably figured that if someones got enough free time on their hands to level up a large number of characters than they should very well be able to spend a few moments each day to get the 40 things each day to get the free ship. alternatively, I think they plan to add the ships to the c shop anyway so anyone who doesn't want to do the event can always just buy it
They've cancelled hourly events and will put them on the weekend, with the logic of providing a chance for those who can only play then to participate. Nice.
Hey, but Tour the Galaxy is a daily now.
With a time limit so short only the people who worked/ground hard to be able to run it 3-4 times per run "the old way" can complete it.

How appreciated do YOU feel?
About as appreciated as a klingon. And that's not capitalized because I'm not referring to a species in Star Trek.
I have a Star Trek MMO I can jump in and play. I have a D'Deridex Warbird. I can jump in and fight the Borg at any time I want to. I have an entire arsenal of canon Starfleet ships I can play. I have a bunch of uniform options for my characters, many of which are from the TV shows/movies.
My lifetime sub broke even over a year ago so I'm getting paid $5 in zen each month whether I play the game or not. Cryptic shows their generosity on a regular basis with free stuff and has no problems bribing me to do things.
I have awesome voice actors like Dave Rivas, and cast members from Star Trek reprising their roles for STO like Michael Dorn, Denise Crosby, Tim Russ, Chase Masterson, and Leonard Nimoy.
I have people like Christine Thompson and Jesse Heinig who really show how much they love Star Trek in the lore they create.
I have an STO forum where PWE/Cryptic does not scrub all negative opinions made on their game like some other game companies are known to do.
I have a community manager like Branflakes who similarly shows his love for the game on a regular basis and tries to keep us in the loop as often as he can.
I have devs like Tacofangs who interact with the players and have fun with us on the forums.
I have a fleet that I have fun with, and even though I heavily dislike the grind -- it does keep me playing and the rep sponsorship changes make it less painful for my alts.
STO isn't perfect. I have plenty of gripes with it. But all things considered, STO is pretty damn awesome. And I certainly feel appreciated while playing it.
I have gotten what I paid for with the LTS.
I have tons of ships. Uniforms. And I am working on building a fleet.
I wish some of the bugs that popped up with this event were not here. And I could get fleet-marks a bit easier on KDF side. But game wise I am happy with what I see.
They want to push me to very all they need to do is put a single player space area for omega marks.

Wow, that really does say it all doesn't it?
It's ridiculous what the gaming industry is trying to get away with in recent years, with rampant greed and declining quality. Cryptic used to be all about making fun and very customizable games, and have been moving farther and farther away from that. Their quality now is horrendous, and they just keep trying to jam monetization down our throats, while some people keep saying "oh, its not so bad" or "at least it's not Game X". Star Trek Online is quickly becoming Game X, and neverwinter has been from the start. Poor champions has been a mess for years thanks to Cryptic not caring. They went from being Avid fans that watched trek episodes every week, to being JJ Abrams of their own game. It's a joke and an insult that they're still claiming it's a free ship or that the anniversary is a thank you to the fans.
They do nothing but lie about their content, often claiming it is a lot more than it really is, or release it half finished, only to never touch it again. Then when people have an issue with something they've done, they just give some lame answer like that or how they won't do it unless it makes them money. I don't want to blame the people directly, because people like Borticus and Branflakes are good people just trying to do a good day's work, but in the end things like this happen and it seems like their company is just dragging them down with it. They're good people working for a very corrupt company, and because of the things they're unable to do or say because of that, it paints the people themselves in a negative light.
I played the anniversary mission once, and that will be all i play it. It is a fantastic mission, but because of all the horrible things around it, i think i'm going to boycott it and the Dyson sets all together. We all know that they're going to just keep getting worse, this is nothing new for Cryptic or PWE, and there is no way they're going to care enough to fix it either.

Ok, wow, by Bran's logic every day is customer appreciation day.
How is the giveaway "generous" when we know that a month or so from now there will be bigger, better versions with items needed to complete the current ship's set?
Generous is giving a 9-console ship to your customers absolutely free like the last few years. generous is a grind for a 10-console ship that's just under fleet ship status.
No this bull****, you can't justify a 15-day grind with one universal console on a novelty ship. Every sci ship will have dual deflectors eventually, you can't use that to say how special it is.
I appreciate the c-store giveaway stuff, even though it costs nothing to copy bits and they are only giving away stuff that doesnt sell, it is still nice and completely unnecessary, and they make no money from it directly, so I take that as true thank-you and am appreciative of the gesture. Sometimes I go buy a ship or a costume, as a way to help fund the operation in return. 10-console ship giveaways like the breen winter event are nice too, even though I have to grind for them the ships are nice enough to fly in end-game combat, and arent just filler. But free RA ships arent a thank you, they are normal everyday business, given to me in the hopes I will buy zen for the dilithium to equip them, its the business arrangement that we mutually enter into willingly. Telling me to show some thanks for it is insulting, and the people who are telling me to be appreciative seem like they are fundamentally oblivious to whats going on in their daily life so its insulting x2.

Thanks for this, and well said. Is it disappointing that I have to play 10 minutes of Q games a day to get a ship worth probably $20 in the store? Sure, especially since just playing the FE in the past got the ship, so breaking that precedent was probably not the best PR move. Still, compared to other MMOs, the rewards here are always great--I mean, let's face it, a whole bunch of this game is about the ships, and Cryptic has given us plenty of chances to get new ships, even some 10 console ones, without spending a cent. So I'll run the ice race or chase Qs for the characters that it makes sense for them (ie, NOT my Nausicaan raider character) and be a satisfied LTs.
Thanks to the devs for a fun episode, a shiny new ship, and the promise of interesting new story stuff to come.
I didn't do either of the winter grinds and I bought my Risa outfits from the exchange, so it's probably fair to say that these types of events just aren't for me - and that's fine. Other people may enjoy them and I don't begrudge them that, variety is always good.
The reason I strongly dislike this particular grind event is how thoroughly alt-unfriendly it is. I might be able to put up with Q's nonsense on one character, maybe two. But three, or four? Not gonna happen. Any future character I might create won't have access to the exclusive stuff. Let's say I later decide to make a Romulan science officer... I'd wait a year to get a full set. That's not appealing at all.
Either I grind for two weeks every day on several characters to get a nine-console ship with shinies and later buy the un-gimped version with zen (possibly buy it twice, depending on just how creative the pack setup is) or just ignore the whole thing and go about my business without the new shinies. You know what? I'll be fine without the Dyson Whatever ships.
Considering some of the Hirogen/Lobi weapons that I've been requesting for a long time have finally been added, I do have a slight tingly feeling of having actually been listened to.
Likewise, it's obvious a lot of time and effort went into the new featured episode. I do appreciate all the hard work and all the little details(even the subtle dialogue changes).
The whole Q and Anniversary reputation thing on the other hand.. only feels like my wallet is being appreciated, not me (or my time).
Sapphire singing hourly for a few minutes.(again)
new lockbox
dbl xp for 2 days
dbl Q for 2 days
destroid invasion (again)
anniversary free boxes with costumes(same as previous years), water bombs and other junk items. very low chance of an AF
LTS sale ? no, we've only had 1 x 20% off at 1st anniversary
What was your complaint about your FREE ship? you have to grind for it.
IS your anniversary completely recycled except for lockboxes?

15 days of mini- Q games: meh
Knowing this ships has a $50 pack after the fact to be worth while: priceless???
well that last part kinda irks me but overall Id say its balanced (to a degree).
Good for you (Lois voice)
why would you grind on 32 toons? seems kinda excessive.
