um brandon if you see this i was just wonder if posible before u send patches if you could tell us why it keeps crashing. i heard someone say something about animation. but maybe if we new what was haPPening not just we looking into it we could understand better.
not trying to be hard TRIBBLE just curious thats all he he he might make me feel smarter.
But I can log into Tribble, Champions and Neverwinter... I'm curious how you can have a network issue but it only affects one shard.
Not trolling, genuinely curious.
Possiblities:
1.) Perhaps the ports that holodeck are plugged into on the switch/router failed, but not the ones NW and Champions are plugged into.
2.) Somehow the switch/router has a different setting for duplex mode than the server does (Rule #1 in networking, both ends need the same setting [full duplex or half duplex, same speed])
3.) NAT rule misconfiguration
4.) DHCP/DNS misconfiguration
5.) Load balancing issues
Edit: #6.) Overload.
Okay. I'll take whatever bone you throw me. So, as I am not that 'in the know', can someone who is constructively explain what kind of network issue causes this and/or why? I am sincerely curious and would like to understand these kinds of things.
I think he's hinting at a capacity issue. It's the same thing that caused the forums to break immediately after the game went down, too many people trying to get on at once. From a business perspective, it's somewhat hard to justify spending on capacity when it may only reach those peak levels 2-3 days out of the year for a few hours.

Refer to the post on this thread a few pages back. He mentioned something about "networking issues" outside the purview of game content.

not any reward, forum post, cryptic message or internet marketing ploy will change the fact that on the 4th year that people playing and working on Star Trek Online should have been celebrating, greed and lazyness kept all the fun from happening. Thank you

Captains, we really need you stay constructive here the crashes are not due to QA, not content, not the servers. We're experiencing a network issue. We'll continue doing out best but we need your support in terms of staying constructive. We're just as frustrated but this and we thank you for sticking with us.
As Smirk said, we'll update you once we have more details to share.
Cheers,
Brandon =/\=

Here's an idea: don't worry about grinding out the free ship. Simply buy the c-store version when it becomes available in a few weeks. Then you have nothing to grip about.

To humorously celebrate the latest server crash of the day, I reference the Hindenburg.
