You do not have a ship by that name

After I claimed the Federation ship on today's giveaway, I tried renaming it and was told "You do not have a ship by that name" making it impossible to rename. Searching around the forum seems to have turned up other posts that indicate that I'll be able to rename it once I get to a shipyard, but this was a really strange error.
