Here is my take on it. The sf, kdf and rrw materials all share a common theme. Ff you look at it logically, all of the dyson sphere technology shares this similiar theme (look at the buildings, towers etc in the sphere).
Therefore dyson inspired design comes directly from the dyson styled materials/technology being discovered. Each faction has their own variant / design in regards to hull shape because simply put design is something that has evolved over time for each faction as they have progressed into space.
However since the "alliance" is discovering these new dyson technologies it makes sense that the new materials and technology that goes into building these ships share that common theme. With each faction having their own traditional "shaped" ships.
Honestly it boggles my mind that this would even need an in-game explanation as it speaks for itself.
Look i and meny other players wont our ships to look diffrent in design n the materials. im mainly a kdf play and the empire would never make a ship that looked like week human ships (even in just colour). Its the dev been lazy n giving us less n less options.
arazon seen as this is ur 1st post i suspect ur a dev that had a hand in this stupid idea.
IM NOT BUYING A SHIP FOR KDF THAT LOOKS LIKE A FED SHIP IN COLOUR SIMPLE.
The "high level" (high on something) decision to restrict faction hull materials from these ships is indefensible. It's stupid and it will definitely cost them sales (at least one from me). It's a decision that needs to be reversed immediately.
I'm using this on my Romulan Tactical captain, and I enjoy it immensely. The only thing I'm not digging is the muggle version of the ship doesn't have the special ability tray. it would be nice if I didn't have to add a whole other row to my ability tray just to use them...
Synergy, sweet synergy. And the bort just isn't all that good... Absolute proof that bigger does not mean better. Also proof of what happens in the Empire when you let your capital ships be designed by committee of amateurs.
Though if you really want to see easy mode...heheheh.
The Bortasqu' is the biggest beast in the game. I can take a Bortas against anything. There's nothing wrong with the ship, it's the pilot and the mindset.

It needs no in-game explanation, we already have all the out-of-game explanation we need > Cryptic is sloppy, lazy and "the man" that makes the decisions from "above" doesn't have the slightest clue about Star Trek, or what the playerbase of this game wants. That's about it.
Admitedly, I didn't think this before and if you look at my earlier replies in this thread you'll see that, however - this is nothing more than a cash grab to squeeze out whatever there's left of the Dyson sphere.
There are no significant hull differences between the ships (per faction), the consoles are identical (cross faction), they have a hull that looks like a toddler's toy (across the board) with purple glowing neon lights that serve no purpose everywhere, we're suposed to believe that Starfleet, the KDF and RR suddenly started using alien bridges on their own ships  and has a big fat FAIL written all over it.

Exactly. One of the biggest reasons and draws for me to buy KDF ships is their design and general look which I love. This plastic white with carbon-fiber grey and glowy purpe effects just sickens me. I want to fly a Klingon ship!
That's 50$ Cryptic ain't getting from me.
Slap an honor guard shields on it or reman shields and the ships will look far more mencing visually.
That's the thing - I shoudln't have to use a specific shield to make a Klingon ship look Klingon. I usually have visuals off because I like how the ships look themselves.
What happens when they release a better shield tomorrow, or if I want to use the Nukara shield? I'm left with a plastic toy again.
I only liked the design on the KDF ship which is pretty good, the Romulan one looks really bad to me with all the holes in the hull and with the weirdly positioned impulse engines on the tail and the Fed one.....well the Fed one is the last in the long line of examples that Crpytic can't design a Starfleet ship...
I would've gotten the KDF pack cause it's the first Klignon science ship, but this restriction of faction specific hull materials is just one dumbass decision and has put me off.

Problem here is that Russian tanks don't look like a Kremlin on wheels either.
Technology and materials don't dictate the colour of a ship, otherwise we wouldn't have seen ships made from the same materials with different colours (in STO and in canon Trek) to begin with.
Another problem is that this becomes the locked-in future for all ship design until some other future comes along. If the argument is (a) these are superior materials and (b) superior design that is (c) so compelling that all of the factions must make ships like this to be competitive, then (d) all ships must be made this way until some better materials and designs are discovered. There will not be any Starfleet / KDF / Romulan ship designs again, until one of them makes a discovery that leaves the others behind.
It would have been way better to keep faction design and add the dyson tech to it, in the same kind of way that assimilated tech changes the ship models. As it stands now, this is now Dyson Sphere Online until the next thing comes along.
i just upgraded my KDF dyson destroyer. I really like it so far. the hinged cannons...pretty sweet. i came from a vorcha cruiser so i will stick with this for a while.
