Anyone know if it's possible to get a collectors edition game code without the box?
I've looked on ebay, amazon etc... And can get the box for about ?30 but I only want it for the red matter device and I'm not paying that much for one item.
bear in mind that code isnt just a red matter capacitor. The code come with a bundle of things so potentially you are seeing it priced accordingly. I cannot say personally because I bought the thing new retail on preorder many moons ago.
I did however pick up the target tr-116 version for alot less though and the amazon digital deluxe... wish I could find that syfy one though...
That's for a box with a used code. You want to look for "new, unopened, factory sealed". Which will cost you at least three times that.
I agree, you want a unopened factory sealed one, and those go for a minimum of 50 U.S. Dollars on Amazon. You will be paying a high price for an unopen one, if you can now find any. These unopen ones are now becoming rarer as time goes by.
I remember last year you could buy an unopen deluxe edition for $6 dollars (US Currency) - Good luck now, they are going 50 and higher.
If you are a Silver Account player you will reap the most benefit from buying an unopen Deluxe Edition, due to the following:
Your account will be automatically upgraded to GOLD for 30 Days, which means you will get all the GOLD account features, such as: The EC Cap increase -> from 10million EC to a Billion EC Cap & 500 FREE Zen for the trial month
The Deluxe edition will also reward the following:
1) Exclusive access to classical uniforms from the TV series - Mainly DS9 original outfits
2) 3 Game Cards to give out to your friends that will allow GOLD features for ten days (I think that's how it works).
3) Designer collector's box with an aluminum finish
4) Limited Edition 2.25" Die-Cast Comm Badge (US Version)
5) 40 Page concept Art Book
6) Most coveted RED MATTER CAPACITOR Virtual in-game item
go to your local best buy or target. hell anywhere that's been open long enough, they usually have these things really cheap and in abundance.
I got my collectors edition there for 3 bucks, the case, badge, art book, CD, and code all there. including my TOS ent.
I got it when the game first launched but as said above it comes in a nice box with all kinds of good stuff, I also got the DS9 and TNG uniforms as well. So if you are a fan of the game its worth it. I paid a bit more for all this in the beginning of STO so for $30 you have a deal there.
Are all of the goodies still good in these if you find one? I thought some had expired after a certain amount of time. . . although that might just be the preorder goodies like the Target transporter rifle. . .
Whats this about a Transporter rifle? I got some rifle coupon code when I bought the empty box with the beta invite on it a month or two before official release. I dont remember getting the rifle now that I think about it. Maybe it was a release edition offer, 2 different things.

Yes, the Tr-116 was a Target exclusive. Pretty sure you cannot get it from them anymore, and you have to find an unopened one obviously on ebay. I managed to pick one up in the days before F2P for $10, which at the time meant that I basically got 30 days for $10 and the rifle for free.
Now, heres the thing, I barely use the rifle, the kinetic has its advantages sometimes at VA, but not as much as any of the other weapons I have, so I barely use it once I get past LT

Still kinda kicking myself for not grabbing it myself when it was $10 there but thats life.
heres the link to the info on it if anyone needed it
Was lucky enough to grab every pre-order items across a plethora of retail/digital boxes (across diff regions)
Back in the subscription days it was cheaper/equal price to buy the whole game in place of paying a sub (UK/EU prices lol) since you got 30 days + 500 'cpoints' + the promo items
Later on they changed it so you could only add one per-type of product : but due to all the retail/digital combos it was still good pickings.
Trying to get hold of a red matter capacitor now is going to be tricky : pay a fortune on ebay from someone who knows its value (even those free-handout-install-cd of STO they give out at star trek convetions fetch a price due to holo leeta, nevermind something that has 0 stock increase over time)
- OR - you hitup the oldest most 'giant retail electro store in middle of nowhere' style places and managed to score a copy for next to nothing ! ( many ingame friends in US have been succesful this way ) so good luck!
Totally dont understand why they dont just plonk these all in the cstore anyway!
RMC has been on every ship/character ive used since beginning of STO : i see plenty of people say its now useless compared to high end devices and other claim its a total OP/easy slot , maybe their both right? dont care if cryptic have to nerf it to make it avail to all : just give them it!

Reminds me of 4 years ago. I pre-ordered through GameStop to get into the open beta and wanted the CE. The store was out of them but an employee gave me her copy for free because she was a Mac user and the game didn't run on that platform (even though I told her it would likely run through emulation). Four years later and there is now a Mac version about to go gold and I have my CE. I wonder if that employee has any regrets?
The kind of shocking part is how cryptic has sold this item or a similar one.
Even a non consumable specific battery type would be a hot ticket item.
Kind of really shocking...
Damn it cryptic. You did the crazy stuff I suggested years ago...why not now?
Its been asked before. There's licensing agreements in place. When they do these pre-orders they have to sign an agreement saying that it's an exclusive item to those retailers. The legal hurdles to get through are enormous. Some of the better ones included an automatic and always on version of the Point Defense Console, the TR Rifle, the Red Matter Capacitor and the TOS Enterprise.

Don't want to pay? Well... no red-matter capacitor for you.
