...talking to players is like being a mall Santa. Everyone immediately wants to tell you all of the things they want, and you are absolutely powerless to deliver 99% of them.
can't we have a new map for this? Like the one over the Romulan colony?
Are you talking about the buggy map with invisible walls all over the place for you to get hung on that is currently in use for a PvE queued mission that is almost completely dead atm?
Personally I'd rather have the Idran System map from Operation Gamma, complete with Idran Swarmers, than that one.

So, how is the problem of the point defence console going to be dealt with?
As things stand its an I-Win button in small craft pvp.
Will it get a nerf that only applies in pvp, or will it get a general nerf.......thus satisfying the PvP crowd and really annoying everyone else?
What you're referring to has already been looked at; Point Defense now deals only standard damage against small craft if you're equipped with one on a small craft instead of 4x the damage.
It's on Tribble Patch Notes (the 15th)
Was named Trek17.
Been playing STO since Open Beta, and have never regarded anything as worse than 'meh', if only due to personal standards.

I do hope that one guy who wrote this thing knows the most you can do with builds is 2 forward weapon slots and one or two universal ensign skills. The builds for this can't really surprise anyone with such limits imposed with no real customization lol.
Yeah same old map and same old TRIBBLE not really interested.
This is really great. This is just the sort of thing I could really get used to as a fan of PVP, but won't mind if it doesn't come often.
I can't help but feel it's just like a band aid on the gaping wound though. It's the same map, same mode, with a queue mechanic taken from PVE, doing something private organizers already did. That doesn't make this bad, but I would be freaking out if capture and hold got a new map, or PVP got a new game mode. The message of care is here though, and it means a lot.

Spoken like someone who relies on "I Win" buttons instead of skill. The problem with leveling the playing field would be what, exactly?
Personally, I'm not a PVP'er at all, but this just might change my mind. I love small craft content anyway. And the small craft PVP community event they had not too long ago was, I must admit, quite fun. No flaming, no trolling, no elitism (although I have wondered if that had more to do with the fact that Branflakes was there, but I could be wrong). So here's hoping that this will make PVP actually fun (fingers crossed).
I don't care what the header says, I am not now, nor have I ever been, nor will I ever be, an "ARC user".
that seems like a good thing, it might make it easier for PvP newbs to get into it
I agree. Although, configuring a shuttle is much simpler than configuring a starship. There's the whole sci vessel/tacscort/tank division, and the subdivisions inside those categories, and the fact that different builds are good for different things (for example, if I'm in No-Win Scenario or a similar STF, I'd use Torpedo Spread, Gravity Well, and Cannon Scatter Volley on my tacscort, but if I were in PVP, I'd use High Yield torp, tractor beam, and cannon rapid fire on a single target. Preferably the enemy sci vessel, because the tanks and tacscorts need a healerbot to back them up).
Shuttle pvp could be good, though. I'd love to try it in a Delta Flyer.
its pretty unprecedented that something having to do with pvp is introduced into the game. though its not an improvement on normal pvp like we have been waiting for, its a leap in the right direction. pvp, at least in a small way, is on the radar. i think at the very least this will draw people to pvp in a way nothing else could, being so approachable and mellow compared to hardcore tier 5 ship pvp. i think just getting comfortable with the concept of pvp will go a long way toward it being more widely accepted, and people giving it more of a chance. instead of swearing it off and going on about how broken and dead it is.
i think small craft cap and hold would be the funnest form of shuttle pvp, i hope that gets added too

As someone who often plays PvP and cares for this type of content deeply, it is my genuine pleasure to let you all know about our upcoming new PvP mode: Small Craft Arena.
Have you been pewpewing in secret??!?
I'm hurt, truly. :P
Seriously though, I have to say that comment alone is probably the most exciting thing I've read in a blog in a long time.
For the first time ever, we have created a cross-faction PvP queue that allows Klingon, Romulan, and Federation players to queue up for War Games against each other, all from the same queue. This ensures that matches can be found in the shortest time possible for this new mode.
Agreed, this is a step in the right direction to funnel all players into the same queue.
It's a smart move IMO to do a test with this on shuttles.
I can't wait for this to be ported to the standard queues.
we are excited to see the builds and tactics that arise from this new challenge.
As with the Point Defense System, you might want to go through and make some similar changes to other consoles.
While shuttles can only slot a few consoles, AoE Debuff force multiplier consoles such as Theta, Grav Pulse Generator, Subspace Integrated Circuit ("The Black Hole" or "Black-balled"), Isometric charge, etc., all have fairly huge effects in standard PvP much less against tiny shuttles.
Thanks for the write up Hawk, and for working on something new for PvP.

Given that something like 99.9% of all powers adjustments (nerfs (mostly), buffs (pretty sure the EPtX change was motivated by PvP feedback), and other) have been at the behest of the PvP community I find your choice of wording laughable even if I understand what your intended message is - namely that the Dev team is actually looking into expanding and improving upon the current PvP options.
I also feel I should point out that they have (I forget when exactly) fixed the spawn point problems with Ker'rat in the last year so claims that PvP has been forgotten by the Devs...really kind of make me want to alternately laugh and punch someone for being a moron.
That said I am looking forward to this going live and would have loved to have participated in the community Tribble event when it happened, but unfortunately Real Life came calling. I'm hoping that the queues will at least pick up for this with the implementation of cross-faction teaming.
Just to clarify, we're going to have 3 way pvp? Cause the way you worded that makes it sound like as a Romulan I'll be queuing against Feds and Klinks...
Like the Romulan Alliance System? Of course you do, it sounds fine to you because you aren't Romulans, you're FED or KDF who are going to make a Romulan alt, it makes a HUGE difference in perspective.

Nah, supposed to let you do cross-faction teaming like in STFs, except for PvP.

balance doesnt come into play in pve. you shoot nearly helpless balls of hitpoints called npcs, that dont fight you on your own terms like another player would. of course there would be no balance adjustments based on pve. the only time stuff gets outright nerfed tends to be when someone finds a way to use it as an exploit in pve, like tric mines 1 shooting STF gates. everyone weighed in to the discussion regarding some EPt skills getting buffed. pvp'ers did lobby most for there not being built in downtime wile cycling these skills though, so you can keep them on all the time. that black subspace console at the same time got nerfed in pvp, wile it got buffed for pve. the game has only been improved by balance passes like these.
are you really trying to compare, as if they are even, the only pvp development since launch to everything added to pve since launch? shuttle ques and kar'rat spawn point adjustments, to 8 and a half season of pve content additions? the only one you should punch for being a moron is yourself.
This is an unwanted fad that will quickly fade into obscurity. Shuttle missions are painful to wait for and not very rewarding on PvE yet alone on a PvP match (is that Dil reward going to be in the thousands? - doubt it).
Dedicated Small Craft? Are you kidding? I had to 'depressurize' my shuttlebay/Delete those ages ago to make room for ships that mattered. Sure you're giving us the option for more ships slots, but I'm STILL unclear as to how many, or if they're going to be free (which I also doubt).
Can we just have new PvP maps/payouts/maybe a different mode? Or finish stuff promised (BoP flank bonus for eg), please. Or better - can you please just set up PvP so I can host a match with OPTIONS like "Shuttles Only" or "BoPs Only" or "Cruisers Only" or "All Ships Welcome". Lack of these basic multiplayer choices (on an MMO of all things) is why PvP fails in popularity.

Just wanted to say that, a new map would be nice.
If this map is successful, we might get that wish.

There is no hope for sto newbs :P
They refer to counting as the math.

So, nerfed for everyone regardless of whether or not they enjoy PvP.
"I Win" button is boring. And heck, it's not even the best "I Win" button out there.

I hope we get some information about the anniversary ships soon! And/or a new lockbox maybe.
On topic: the small craft PvP sounds fun, maybe I'll pay a visit with my Delta flyer once it's active.
RnD and upgrade needs less RNG. Less lottery. Something has to change.
