Voth Ap cannon shots not showing

just ran gorn minefield and starbase fleet defense (Fed) in my mobius temporal destroyer and could not see the fall of shot.
i could see that the weapons were firing from the hardpoints on my ship and i could see the damage number but not see the actual "shot" themselves.
slotted a random polaron cannon whilst out of combat and that was working fine.
