Imagine if you will, you go to the most populated instance of Sol orbit, where 75 others are flying around earth with your ship, now imaging that same scene, except with corporate logos splattered over all the vehicles and surfaces of ESD.....would you like it?

I think there you have your answer! :P

I would love it if they had like, lane markers for ships to dock, with road side billboards floating there!

I don't think anyone cares if you're a lifer or not, and it certainly doesn't give you any more credibility in a debate on a hypothetical, what-if feature on an internet forums. Speaking as a lifer...this coming from a lifer...good lord.

More to the point: I think the immersion vs. gameplay question is fascinating, and I would easily sacrifice immersion for cheaper items on the C-store. To be honest, Star Trek Online is not really all that immersive to begin with, and load screens are load screens, so I really don't see the harm in running a few ads while people are already waiting to play. Hasn't product placement been used in other games like anarchy online? I personally do not know how effective/annoying it was in that game, but I wouldn't be against any kind of exploration into possibilities there.

Now, if gameplay somehow suffered, that would be pretty unacceptable, both for me and for many veteran players in STO, so that shouldn't even be considered.

I can't wait to hear what more LIFERS have to say about this!

Okay if you really want my input soley because I have a lifetime subscription.
It would depend on how it was implemented. As noted, if it was the load screens just suggested Nikes and Coca Cola. It is survivable and I would even recommend not lowering c-store prices. That kind of low level advertising would help pay for the servers and the operationg expenses and allow c-store and lobi purchases to pay for content. Extending game play in both quality and duration.

If it became an operation where they ran a banner while you were playing. I would lower my game play. If they took it the step further and inserted 'commercial breaks' where every so often a commercial just came on. I would be gone and the Subscription and all previous moneys spent would be written off.

Oh, and what makes a lifer talking about walking away more impactful. If you dropped that kind of money into something it should take something serious to make you get rid of it.

Nor should they be. Their ships would look weird.
