ATTN: MODS: Can we have this thread locked and the involved users spanked before the flame war gets any worse?

I second starswordc. Sorry, I should've known better than to get involved.

*slaps self on back of head*

Seriously, I got into a flame war with a troll just yesterday that ended up making me late for an appointment. I should know better by now.

Again, my apologies for getting involved in a flame war.

It's a complicated thing. A lot of the hate at JJ trek is because of a widespread perception that he ruined the franchise to make it popular. There is a lot of real basis for this--JJ apparently has a track record as a dictatorial director who just HAS to have his vision on screen just as he sees it, and damn what makes Trek good.

Much of the TOS hate is aimed at the cheese and ham, but most people give TOS a break for being a 60s show.

Most TNG hate is from hardcore TOS fans who froth at seeing anyone other than Shatner in the big seat. It got worse once TNG became super famous and spawned two spinoff shows and four movies.

STO hate tends to be from hardcore novel-verse fans and people who got pissed at the lack of story in the official S8 episode series.

Hope that helps explain the hate.

i hate jj trek because he tried to make a new trek which failed to live upto what trek should be about, beyond just action. look at TWoK as an example, most of it was understanding the plot and it wasnt until right near the end there was some action, the atmosphere of the film carried the film so well upto that point and into the fight, hell even the motion picture was more interesting to watch. but compare it to the latest incarnation and all you get is fight scene after fight scene, not one chance to build up the film and it's background before getting what was bound to happen. i also hated the fact he had vulcan destroyed because of some 2d villain which this alternative vulcan was completely innocent of.

TOS was groundbreaking and monumental in that it changed how the world of people thinks of itself, TOS was the series that broke down so many barriers that were as raw as an open wound, gene put lemon or salt into the wound to make a point. TOS explored so much. i would venture a guess that with all these black civil rights movements in the united states, the moon landing, big business, female rights and all that other load of stuff that TOS showed a side most people would be furious to see. i mean there was still a lot of resentment about the TRIBBLE's and yet gene did a TRIBBLE themed episode, black rights once again and gene created uhura and kirk kissing, the cold war with the reds, gene had pavel chekov and such..

TNG was mostly spill off from some fanboys of the original that thought that TNG was just a knockoff, but it turned out better then expected so there is some basis there, but then again gene once again pushed a few buttons along the way to make a point like he did in TOS before he passed when reunification aired in season 4.

only a few elements i dont like about STO is that most of the storyline created by cryptic doesnt make much sense to how the original thought processes of a race reacts or how historically some individuals react on behalf of a bigger purpose.
    T6 Miranda Hero Ship FTW.
Been around since Dec 2010 on STO and bought LTS in Apr 2013 for STO.

Ooo-k, you're off the deep end. I can clearly teach you nothing, you illogical triumphalist xenophobic chickenhawk.

Seriously, who needs discipline? It kills creativity.

Actually I'm pretty sure I will like Aliens better than humans so I'm not Xenophobic.

I'm also pretty logical, note I have not used profanity.

I do like the group Triumph however.

And while predatory, I'm more like one of the great Raptors like a Great Grey Owl or Harpy Eagle.

I'm also very creative. That's why I prefer JJ Trek.

It's very exciting and never boring.

Jon Stewart actually said it best on The Daily Show.

*paraphrasing* "After I watch a Star Wars movie I'm all like: Yeah! Stuff done blew up! When I'm finished watching Star Trek I'm supposed to be all like: Oh yeah . . . right . . . racism is bad!"

IMO JJ COMPLETELY missed that point when it comes to Trek. His are fun action movies, don't get me wrong - but still, he missed the point.

JJ Trek is here to stay.

Maybe in your little fantasy universe, but in this one it's already announced that since widdle JJ can't have his way all the way and all the time, he's taking his toys over to Star Wars to excrete all over it instead. Already verified he's not directing the next Trek, so enjoy all the lens-flare goodness of his first (and only) two Treks. :P

I am listening to the arguments and trying to understand but I still don't get it. I love TOS, I love the reboot, I love TNG and I love STO's story. I don't understand why so many fans seem to despise one or more of these.

Don't bother. It's nerd rage in it's finest hour. This topic pops up once every few months, and it ends with a mod slapping a lock on it.Just sit back and watch the slow motion train wreck. :D

And on that note :::drumroll-ching!::: In Before Lock! And I brought the popcorn! Want some? I'll share.

You know, we really oughta talk to Bran about setting up a Tee Shirt concession for these. Bet we'd make a killing, lol. :D

Depends on how the mods are feeling. If they're feeling lazy and/or a troll gets on the thread (like in this case), you can have up to 200 illogical rants, carefully-thought-out yet futile rebuttals, and generalized idiot comments before the Hand of Mod comes down.

If the mods are active and/or feeling authoritarian, and they catch the thread before a troll gets onto it, I think the record low was like twelve comments. But I'm too lazy to actually check.

Actually, I was just trying to make a mod/god joke. Making fun of christians and such. Turned out pretty damn well, I must say.

Also, I like the motto in your sig.

I'd say this is about as far as it's going. I've read through the last few pages of this thread and it's rapidly devolving into petty name calling and flaming so is going to be closed.

Out of the interest of being fair I'll give you all a little time to edit your posts to something less provocative and avoid a warning, but as they say 'I'll be back'

If you guys want a JJ Trek thread go for it, but play nice (and it might be better in Ten Forward as it's not really STO related)
