With the tedious rep grind, the never-ending power creep, the massive amount of P2W toys, among other things, I'm taking a break from STO.
I played in WoWP's open beta and have recently started back up playing, but progression is rather slow and I'm only on Tier 4 at the moment.
A few days ago I installed the WT open beta and have really been enjoying it. It's different, but the same.
Here's a short list of what I think each one does better than the other, but I'm pretty new in each.
World of Warplanes:
-Smooth flight controls with the mouse as well as aiming.
-Planes are balanced for the most part
War Thunder:
-Better overall feel that you're in a battle. Ground forces are a major factor and do not feel trivial like in WoWP
-There seems to be a large balance discrepancy among planes in this game. I think maybe they are trying to be too historical instead of building a balanced video game.
-WT just has a lot more content it seems and it's still only in beta. In the future they will be adding player controlled tanks and battleships to the game where in WoWP it's only the planes that players control.
I actually like them both and at this point can't really decide which is better. What do y'all think?
Haven't tried either, though you have piqued my interest.
As to historical accuracy, yeah, that could be a problem, especially if you send Zeros up against late model Corsairs (assuming they have WWII planes. Corsairs apparently had an 11:1 kill ratio against Zeros).
Might they have plans for purchasable fictional upgrade components that would allow closer specs?
War Thunder by leaps and bounds. Why? Because in WoWP, once you train a crew for another plane, it doesn't retain it's competency in other planes. Which War thunder does.
Plus it just does an overall better job of mechanics, and the feeling that even if in a match, you're rated by how well YOU personally do, not dragged by a team.

Yeah, I'm leaning more towards War Thunder myself. It's just so much deeper with more game modes, different objectives, more maps, and a ton more planes. I still do like the way the planes and aiming handle in WoWP better, but it's just so bare-boned compared WT. In WoWP I have like 9 or 10 planes and have been playing for about 3-4 weeks. In WT I already have 40+ planes and have only been playing for a week, and unlike WoWP, I don't have to get rid of planes to make room for new ones (or I could spend money in WoWP to open new hangar slots). Also, the Arcade mode is really fun in WT because you get to fly up to 5 different planes in one battle compared to always just 1 plane - 1 death in WoWP.
But yeah steamwright, I've killed a few Zeros myself with my Corsair Most of the planes are WWII era for both games, but in WT they go up to the Korean War so you have some really nice American and Russian jets to fly, although that's a long way off for me.
I've been reading a bit on War Thunder here and there and it's gotten my interest. Haven't tried it yet but I do like the prospect of a unified, playable content with air, land, and sea units. That has alot of potential, I think. It's still a bit early, but it has some promise.

@DevolvedOne
Oh, and I'm all for historical accuracy.
