Blockade Runner Escort Retrofit

Hey,

So I am seriously considering buying the Blockade Runner Escort Retrofit from Steam... Is this a mistake?

This may be blasphemy, but it looks almost comparable to the JHAS. I only lack the 5th tac console and has a much lower turn rate. I normally fly my fleet defiant and I like being able to lay down the hurt, but if things get tough I just pop. I think I'm tired of popping...

Anyway, I looked at the avenger and the Andorran escorts, and they are still on the table, but the steamrunner just looks really good solid.

I mostly pve, but I would like to eventually move in a pvp direction. Your input is needed.

I have the Steam pack and I absolutely love the ship. It's a great purchase and flies like a dream. I use the Tholian gear with a dual Tetryon beam bank build and it tears through enemies in PvE. It has a great turn rate and an very interesting BOFF setup.

The great thing is you get two ships and a bunch of great items with the Steam pack which is great for playing new characters.

I'd like a fleet version eventually but I'm fine using it as it is now. Easily a great ship to buy!

Even without a 5th tac console it's my favorite escort by a long shot. It's just.... good. So good.

it is the only escort i regularly run. With a dual aux to dampers build with the aux2damp doff and 1 fleet rcs allres, it has around a 70 turn rate with massive hull resist. Couple that with epte and your defense stays high which mitigates a lot of hull damage. You can book it around stf's, tank what needs tanked, and kill the TRIBBLE out of everything. And have alot of fun in kerrat too.

With the holidays and the corresponding Steam Sales coming up, may be worth waiting a few weeks though, get it for half off.

I have good news for you, then. The Steamrunner Blockade Runner Escort Retrofit is fleet-quality. 10 console slots, hull hp modifier, and shield modifier. Just like a fleet ship. It's lacking the fleet skin, of course. But from a gameplay standpoint the Steamrunner is the same as a fleet ship.

I bought it when it first came out, when it was on sale. $10 for a fleet ship was too good of a deal to pass up.

I always loved the Steamrunner, and to this day I regularly fly it. Some people think it looks ugly... but I have always had a soft spot in my heart for the design. The only downside to the ship is the Ensign science slot. I run Hazard Emitters I, but I really miss having Polarize Hull.

I make up for it by using the Warp Core doff that has a 40% chance to remove all debuffs on you when using an emergency power ability -- and with 2 Lt. Engineers, I cram 3 of those powers on it, in addition to Engineering Team II.

Thanks for the quick response. Yeah, you guys have sealed the deal on this one. I have to get it now.

Would it be acceptable to run this with Aux2Bat? I mean with the two engineering boffs make me think it could work.

At least wait till the weekend. Black Friday and Cyber Monday.

You can do A2B with it, but ironically it already has so many tac slots you might run out of things to reduce the CD on. There's also dual A2D, especially with the doff (purples are overpriced but blues still exist) to move and tank at absolutely ridiculous levels.

Good thinking. I will wait. A penny saved and whatnot. I have never tried A2D before. It sounds interesting. I will play around with it on my defiant while I wait.

The defiant is probably not the best one to try it on with only two eng slots, patrol escort would be better, you can run two eng eptx and an a2d. If you like a2d, the purple doff gives 23sec uptime and 40% energy resistance...kinda nice, i run a single copy on my avenger.

I agree. I got it too when it first came out. While I don't fly it often, I do like it much better than that gosh awful first attempt called the Zephyr. Now if only they would create an actual Norway instead of the half-arsed Oslo.

Agreed. I think a proper Norway-class is much needed after Cryptic was nice enough to create the Steamrunner.

damage of an escort, tank of a cruiser.
got it myself because had some problem in the past to find good fleet and wanted true 10 console ship. now i am in a good fleet and can get nearly anything, but still flying blockade runner on some of my characters.

sure, go ahead. only problem is to find the combination of tac skills that don't interfere on each other.

I checked the website again, not on sale yet, but I did see this:
What you want isn't on sale today? Get notified when it is!
Add a game to your Wishlist and you'll get an email when it gets a big discount. A great idea after the sale too!

Yeah. I saw that too. If it doesn't go on sale during the Autumn sale I am just going to break down and buy it full price.:(

Don't forget, your not just getting the ship. Your getting two ships (one lower tier and the upper tier); a starter pack with two (green and blue quality if I am not mistaken) bridge officers and a special console. Although I did buy it myself last year at half price it is still pretty much worth the full price that they are asking imo and is probably the best value for money in regards to ships and bundles.

This thread is making me wanna go back to it again. I was new and inexperienced when I first bought it... now I am old and slightly less inexperienced with the game so should be able to do better with it. lol.

    Have fun!

The Steamrunner is by far my favorite escort. I too am one of the rare people who love its look, and it suits my prefered "hybrid" play style of dps-yet-durable ships perfectly. I find it's even more durable than the Fleet Patrol Escort I ran before it.

My current Steamrunner, on my tac, uses ET, RSP and 2x EPtS with the maco set and it takes an amazing amount of beating before it gets in any real trouble, although I feel the second EPtS could stand replacing as I rarely seem to need it. I have HE in my science slot, and never really missed not having any of the other defensive sci abilities like Polarize Hull or Science Team available.

It's also worth noting the special console that it comes with (you'll need to get this off the tier 1 variant, though you can get it from the ship vendor again if you accidentally dismiss the ship) has good value while you're leveling up and can't stock that many defensive boff powers yet. I haven't used it in my end build yet, so if anyone has, I'm curious as to how it performs there.

well, its a continuous higher power setting that means better passive resists and shield reg that is of value. shield on 125 means +35% resist and bonus resists from skill comes on top of that.
without it you loose up to 50% total resists on shield. ouch.....

polarize hull? on tac? seriously... OMEGA MANEUVERS !!!! DANG!!! :D

It's just that by the time the countdown on the 2nd one is done, the fight is usually over.

That too, yes. :P I don't think I've actually ever used PH on any of my toons, but I'm still surprised with how well you can get along with that single ensign science slot.

depends on fight... voth battlezone dreadnaught groups tend to be nasty and long fight.

i used PH on carriers. later kicked it out, better off helmsman trait + evasive maneuvers +2 doffs. cooldown of ca 25. sec and much more use then PH every 45 sek. ;)

I'd chime in that the ship is pretty awesome, but it seems everyone else beat me to the punch.

On the subject of Aux2Bat - I think it would work, but I don't really know that it's worth it. Then again, with such little science slotting, there are limits to what else you can do with the Aux power, and I tend to play somewhat defensively. Nevertheless, there's a lot you can do with two Engineering lieutenant slots on that ship, so consider carefully before you make an A2B-centric build.

I have surprised a few people in 1v1 PVP running A2B. Though for PVE I prefer not. I have tanked the TRIBBLE out of CE and eSTFs running 2 A2SIFs or running 1 A2SIF and 1 RSP

This A2D discussion is interesting. Has anyone tried it on a carrier? I'm wondering if 2 copies of A2D on an Atrox could turn it into a torpedo boat. Lol, would be funny. The concept intrigues me.

it is possible. however i doubt that it will be good idea.
carriers need high aux power to launch pets and to use science abilities.
you end up having 7 science abilities with nearly no effect.

atrox is just that - flying brick of no fun. :(

    A2D is not A2B

A big Atrox flying around like a battlecruiser would be hilarious to watch
