any chance of getting ship skins back ?

oldkilldareoldkilldare Member Posts: 0 Arc User
i remember the ship skins...i even bought a couple...and i know cryptic used them for fleet variations (along with new textures) but how about giving non fleet folks the opportunity to buy the skins again (tho not the fleet textures)...there's a whole tab in the store with virtually nothing in it atm...

i know its a long shot but there are a few parts on various ships i've been really wanting to throw into my customisation in recent days :(

also a non fleet VA Ambassador would be nice.

I can get you a Fleet VA Ambassador if you like. You gotta bring the fleet ship modules though.

The ship skin variants are still available, but they are only available to all Fleet Variants of those ships.

Truth be told, its pretty cold what Cryptic did, especially to those who had previously purchased the different ship costumes. To have players who previously purchase them, re-buy them via modules is unjust.

I guess its fortunate that ship modules can be purchased via the exchange and you can mine or farm Dilithium via STFs or dailys.

I understand what you mean, for players that are not in fleets they tend to get the bad end of the stick (Though I will never understand why some folks not simply join one for the apparent benefits, that is because there are fleets out there that are simply casual).

You can obtain a non-fleet version --> via the episode mission, sadly its only a Commander rank ship, should have been a Captain rank.

I'm a bit confused (not hard to do, I don't do fleets), are you saying that you do not have access to the skins, even if you purchased them, unless you buy fleet modules? Or are you saying that you can only get "fleet texture" on those skins by buying the modules?

I have every skin that was sold in the C-Store, and I still have access to them, though, as I said I am not in a fleet, so I dunno how that affects me.

I understand what you are saying about non-fleet people getting a raw deal though, but truth be told, here SHOULD be incentive to be in a fleet (so different ship variants, and elite weapons). Though personally *I* don't really care for such things.

I just checked my Star Cruiser and she still has the Nomad ship costume that was purchased with Cryptic Points. Haven't obtained the Fleet Star Cruiser. So the new Fleet ships don't prevent you from using the C-Store ship skins if you bought them previously.

So if you already bought the ship skins, then the only affect is that you are not getting a version that has 10% more hull, 10% more shields, and an extra console.

The only people getting a raw deal is the people that have started playing the game after they were removed or never bothered with getting them. If a veteran is annoyed that they can't get them, then why didn't they purchase them when they had the chance? It is not like there was a lot of stuff to purchase on the C-Store when they were available.

i kinda like sticking closely to canon looking ships and i wasn't as keen to fiddle with my ships configuration as i am now.

i did buy a couple but just the one for the Fleet Escort (which i still partly use on my tac captain), one for the Advanced Escort i think and one on the Klingon side..a BOP variant i think.

i missed the free VA Ambassador because i wasn't playing at the time...i would normally have played through the event...i play a lot of "f2p" mmos and flirt between them as content comes out so i usually track such things...but tbh someone in my family was very ill at the time (my mum had a stroke) so i wasn't doing much gaming at all then.

    that's just life *shrug*

but i was a bit surprised they didn't market a 3 ship pack after the anniversary feebie like they did with the Odyssey...that's what i expected them to do.

my main character is an engineer and i really like "classic" trek looking cruisers so it kinda sucks i missed out :(

    still, no harm in asking...

edit - as for not playing in a fleet i don't play the game reliably or intently enough to be of any value to a fleet...and i would feel bad taking but not putting in...also im kind of wary/tired of guilds and "guild politics" after raiding in wow for many years...

It seems like the 3 ship packs are for only new ships. The Andorian Escort is a new ship even though its design is based on older ships.

Yeah, before the F2P nonsense, C-store was actually full of cosmetic changes not P2W ships and etc. I miss those days.:(

I agree. I would like to see the skins return with the potential for more added as well as more hull skins for each faction.

    I agree too.

Cryptic should release more alternative ship "costumes", instead of releasing more and more OP ships and accelerating the power creep even more.
I think there are ships in dire need of at least SOME options, like the Odyssey (forward facing pylons) or the Avenger (round saucer) for example IMHO.
Not to mention the various KDF and ROM ships without any options too.

I would like pack that are more universal even if more expensive.

For example, a nacelles pack with a style of nacelle design fitted for all standard fed ships. (No, it can't be the exact same model. But you could have a basic design, even if it's only adapted for cruisers.)

Or a hull pack with a new deflector texture. I'd also really like to see hull textures as costume perks for reps and/or fleet holdings.

An Omega Force hull texture with optional Omega Force insignia. Nukara hull textue with Tholian inspired hull elements.

    Sounds cool.

I have also something similar in mind.

Cryptic could release some different themed ships packs, like TMP/TOS/JJ or ENT ship parts.

When that mission first came out, you got both a Commander level ship AND a higher level ship during that first week. It was a limited time offer. After that, the mission was re-done to fit the commander level and that is why you only get the commander version now.

My apologies for the confusion, if you previously bought the ship costume -> Nomad, comet etc... you will have them forever on that one said account.

For the folks who never bought them, or just started playing, the only way to obtain the ship costume is by buying a Fleet Variant of the ship that uses the costume or skin as you like to call it.

The only way to purchase a Fleet Variant is by buying Fleet ship modules, as its required for the more advance version of said ship. Though I think you can buy a fleet version at the shipyard that does not require a fleet module but requires Dilithium. I may be wrong though, I have not checked the shipyard in awhile.
I have every skin that was sold in the C-Store, and I still have access to them, though, as I said I am not in a fleet, so I dunno how that affects me.

It shouldn't, I think you can still access fleet variants of certain vessels at ESD shipyard, though you MUST be in a Fleet that is at a certain tier to buy those Fleet Ships, whether at a starbase or ESD shipyard.
I understand what you are saying about non-fleet people getting a raw deal though, but truth be told, here SHOULD be incentive to be in a fleet (so different ship variants, and elite weapons). Though personally *I* don't really care for such things.

That's the crux of the matter, if you care not for those things, then solo is the way to go - but to gain access to more powerful variants of your vessel you need to be in a fleet that has gain a certain starbase tier, or, granted access to a fleet that is willing to sell you a fleet ship via their shipyard.

There is a channel dedicated to allowing players access to tier 5 starbases for free.

Ok gotcha, that was what I was thinking.

In general, I find Guild Politics and Power Mad Guildmasters to be even worse in STO than anywhere else I have ever been in 15 years or so of MMO playing (with the exception ove EvE of course), so I try to steer away from them in this game.

To be fair, I have yet to run into a situation that I couldn't handle with my Rep geared ships ( though I don't power PvP), so Elite weapons aren't a necessity (not that I wouldn't take them if I had the chance).

I have been to the starbase invite channel and it does seem to work well for people like me, though I have yet to partake.

But back to the subject: Yeah they should offer those costumes again. Like I said the other day, it's "incentive" to join a fleet, but my opinion has degraded on that fact, the more I think about the topic. it's NOT fair to remove them form teh c-store and make them a fleet perk. Fleet perks should be unique, not something that was already previously available.

This has my support. I know that I've been annoyed more than once by the fact that I'm basically being 'punished' for joining late and playing solo by the fact that I can't have access to certain ship skins that USED to be C-Store and are now fleet-only. Honestly, it doesn't help to change the opinion that some players have about the game developing a focus on Fleets (fleet holdings, fleet ships, fleet gear, etc.) to the near-exclusion of other players.

That said, I'd love skin packs. I know that a lot of Federation players want 'Mirror Universe' skins for their NX-, TOS Connie and Defiant-class ships. Being able to purchase the "U.S.S. Odyssey" skin from DS9 for an Exploration Cruiser would be nice for some that just want a little variation...

I know that you'd never get me away from the Long Range Science Vessel if I could buy a Yeager-skin for it...

Even just being able to buy rollbar options for your starter Light Cruiser so you can go with a Reliant-type Miranda, a Saratoga-type Miranda or a Soyuz-class would work...
"If you can't take a little bloody nose, maybe you ought to go back home and crawl under your bed. It's not safe out here. It's wondrous, with treasures to satiate desires both subtle and gross; but it's not for the timid." -- Q, TNG: "Q-Who?"
^Words that every player should keep in mind, especially whenever there's a problem with the game...
