The Ponds originally were a good asset to The Doctor.

Don't get me wrong. I thought Amy and Rory had a great arc and were an excellent foundation for Smith's era. But they should have stayed former companions the first time they left. How can we miss them if they wouldn't go away sort of thing.

I totally agree. As Jenna Coleman is staying on after the regeneration, I wonder how her interation with Capaldi's Doctor will differ. At the moment Clara and the Doctor seem to bounce off each other. With Capaldi being a much older looking Doctor I don't think he will have the silly boffin persona.

    Time War 2?

Hope so. Maybe the Sonarans will be invited to the war this time.
I was under the impression that 13 lives was more of a guideline than an actual rule.

It is both, depending on who is talking. The regenerations are a product of Time Lord science and as such, the Time Lords alot their people 13 lives. However, it has been shown multiple times that the number is a decision point, not a limit of science. Rassilon apparently has no limits for himself, and traps those other who seek to nullify any limitation on themselves. The Master was promised a new set of regenerations for services rendered. To make things more complicated, the Master has been shown to have found a way to put Time Lord "soul" into a foreign host body, triggering a regeneration. But back to the point, what everyone is concerned about is that the Time Lords imposed a limit of 13 lives on the Doctor. And what will undoubtedly happen is that the Doctor will find a way to shatter that imposed limitation, if he hasn't already.

Day of the Doctor is nowon Amazon Instant Video under the 50th anniversary collection, and was well worth the price. I loved all the remarkable twists and turns in the story, but only wish to comment on two points at the moment:

    SPOILERS

    1. Daleks -- first I was surprised there was not more on screen time for them in the episode. Second, this may be the first time this DW fan has ever really seen them as a threat. That may sounds strange, but ever since I was a kid, I always saw them as clunky oversized pepper pots with plungers. I'd always been more afraid of the Cybermen and Sontarans. When the show finally made the decorative Dalek spheres as droppable grenades, it caught my attention, but seeing them this movie strapped into flying war rigs finally got me to see them as a serious threat. Bravo.

    2. Gallifrey - this story actually raised more questions for me than answers. And it all revolves around the events that ended 10's life. Were the events of 10, The Master, Rassilon and Gallifray all part of the "burning" that the Moment was supposed to fulfill, or was Gallifray's status portrayed at that time part of the stasis? In other words, when 10's storyline unfolded, were we seeing an unaltered timeline or the altered timeline?

Near the end the War Council mentions the High Councils plan has failed, meaning the plot of TEoT has been and gone before the end of DotD.

Norway and Yeager dammit... I still want my Typhoon and Jupiter though.
JJ Trek The Kelvin Timeline is just Trek and it's fully canon... get over it. But I still prefer TAR.

    And as I predicted, The Word of God (Loki) twisted in regards to the numbering issue;

    http://metro.co.uk/2013/11/24/doctor-who-steven-moffat-clears-up-the-whole-doctor-regeneration-problem-sort-of-4199592/

tl;dr - The War Doctor is a regeneration. He's the real ninth Dooctor. Capaldi is the last one though we know he wont be. But you can still call Eleven "Eleven" if you want because you can since Real Nine didn't consider himself the Doctor.

Which is and acceptable bit of Moffat Weaseling since it maintains the entire freaking point of the episode: The Doctor finally accepting what he did and who he was during the war.

How awesome though to see all the TARDIS's flying around Gallifray. Although a totally memorable scene (Matt Smith with Tom Baker) I couldn't help but reflect on how frail looking Tom Baker his. The Doctor may of survived 50 years, it is however a shame that those who have played him have not stayed the same too. Just aswell we as human beings have memories.

I'm humored by the comment "all the Tardis's" and similar that I've seen across the internet. It is really only one Tardis, 13 times, with perhaps several desktops and skin tweeks. :P

So why did the cloister bell never sound? Doesn't the Tardis freek out when it and the Doctor cross their own timestream?

Kind of wished we had seen more companions, though having a few photos pinned was not a bad touch.

Matt's Doctor enjoying a good book at the beginning reminded me of McCoy's Doctor enjoying a good book at the beginning of the '96 movie.

Anyone notice the familiar honeycomb/circle pattern on the wall in the secret gallery?

I think the cloister bell is for accidental encounters.

The original Master had his own TARDIS

It's for those encounters so grave that even the TARDIS and those inside are in danger

Right, as did other Time Lords. This event, though, essentially showed the same TARDIS, the Doctor's Type 40 TARDIS, 13 times.

Ah, that would explain the cloister at the "2 minutes to Belgium" Doctor 5/Doctor 10 event, since the two time lines of the TARDIS were fused. I guess it would also explain how 3 Doctors could walk into a single TARDIS, disrupt the "desktop" pattern, and not set off the cloister bell. The TARDIS sensed no real danger.

(Three Doctors walk into a TARDIS....sounds like the start of a joke. )

I believe what people are getting at is that the TARDIS(s) exteriors are representative of their era not just reusing the Mat Smith version 13 times.

It was epic, I do not want to give spoilers away, but the result of this episode will mean The Doctor will have a way to get back more Regeneration's :)

I suspect the true intent of the surprise at the end was to tell the audience that lore will not be rigid, or as was stated: "Who nose?"...er, "knows". That said, the take-away I had was that potentially, at some point, the Doctor will gain the ability to customize his regeneration on a level equal to that of Romana's ability. I suppose Karn will again play a role in this?

I would harken to disagree since the told limit of the number of times that a Time lord can regenerate is twelve times (meaning #13 is the last)...

Do keep in mind the following
the Master was offered a new cycle of regenerations by the High Council to save the Doctor from the Death Zone, which may indicate that there are methods to circumvent the twelve regeneration limit.

Which would mean that only the High Council has the power to grant the regeneration...

However, in Sarah Jane Adventures "Death of the Doctor" when Smith is asked how many times can he regenerate he replies with ""507" times". On that matter, Russel T. Davis commented:
He insisted that the "thirteen lives" rule was too deeply entrenched in the viewer consciousness for his throwaway line to affect it. The thirteen life rule is suggested to have been a rule the time lords imposed upon themselves to stop them living forever, but as he is the last Time Lord, no-one knows if this applies to the Doctor.

Now here is a real question...Considering what happened during the Last Day of Gallifrey...and what happened during Tennant's "End of Time"...

Would this not mean we would see The Master and one VERY angry Rassilon make a reappearance either in the Christmas Special or during Capaldi's tenure?

I remember the piano organ during the 6th Doctor's ill-fated attempt to manipulate the Tardis Chameleon circuit. Was there any other shape his TARDIS has ever temporarily taken? I know when he visited the Nixon White House, the TARDIS was invisible, and when meeting Clara for a second time around, he'd created an exterior with impossibly high ladder and cloud. Those are the only variations I can recall.

In one ep, the Master's TARDIS took on the form of a stone column.
