So, I'm concerned that it's too long. There are almost 100 assets and 30 maps which according to Al in the interview is very unlikely to happen. We can ask for things until we're blue in the face (and have been for years) but unless we can actually ask for something they're willing to give us, we're just back where we started.
That said, this may be a good list to put up for a vote. Btw, does anyone know a poll creator that can deal with a hundred entries?
Horizontal invisible Walls are in there along with the Horizontal Forcefields from 4028 which could really make that map usable
Is 25 too long for Gecko? I think 25 if Fair. Enough for the Authors but not too much for the Art Department. What do you think?
Please Take a Look at the Form All?. I would really like suggestions and maybe a heads up on any typos if I missed any.
If we divide into Categories than we have to set separate limits for each category. Which in my opinion give us to much power? I did my best to keep them separated But I feel they need to stay in one list sadly?
I know it makes the form really long. But it makes it VERY pronounced when you have selected to many BEFORE you hit submit, so no one should ever have to start over.
I would really like to get this posted and out to the public. How would you suggest this. I want to get the form finalized this week and maybe post it for public viewing Monday.
I can pass this off to my fleet for Voting when we are all in agreement....
I pretty much just voted for things that help to make custom interiors, plus a few other sets like SF Academy, the Shuttlebays and Observation Lounge.
I personally feel like those basics are more important than the Dyson Sphere or even New Romulus.
I would like to apologize.
When I created it, the biggest thing I wanted was an Empty/blank map for creating ship interiors and after putting 100+ things on the list I forgot to include it..
I have since added both "Empty Ground Map" and " Empty interior Maps"
I have also allowed you all to edit your votes after submitting.
All you should have to do is go back to the form to make changes.
If you have a problem editing your selections after posting let me know.
We currently have 40 Response and we need some more.
I have Posted the link to the Form On my Fleet Pages and I ask that you all post them to your fleets and to Starbase UGC. I would like to get as many responses as possible.
If you want you may copy what is in the Box for your Posts in order to Save Time.
Hello All,
I have been working with a few of the Members of Starbase UGC and others on the Official Forums.
We have been collecting Suggestions for a List of items to give to Al "Gecko" Rivera.
Please Vote on which items you would like to see added to the Foundry
WE HAVE ONLY RECEIVED 40 RESPONSES, I REALLY NEED YOUR HELP!!!
Just one little note, most of the shuttle listed are in the Costume Creator, so we can make space NPCs out of them. However they are not available as ground assets, which I would love to have so please keep them on the list in that capacity

Yeah I figured they were probably in costume creator but I wanted to make sure.
I also really want the ground assets because there is only the one shuttle available as a ground asset.
I float one of the ground shuttle over one of the round holographic console's from outside ESD Shipyard and I call it a Shuttle Simulator in my missions, I use it as an exit to a space training mission.

That shuttle prop is humorously undersized too.
A TIME TO SEARCH: ENTER MY FOUNDRY MISSION at the RISA SYSTEM Parallels: my second mission for Fed aligned Romulans.
From an art standpoint, there should be some separationn on that list.
Maps
Geometry (Assets/Objects/etc.)
Skyfiles
NPCs/Costumes.
Each of these is handled in a separate and distinct way from the others.
For maps, we have to save the map off to a new name, remove any mission related stuff, and anything that would break it in the foundry (like moving doors), and do various other clean up steps to get it working for the foundry. Then we have to add volumes for all of the floors/walls in the map, so you can place objects on them. All of this takes quite a while per map, and we have to do one map at a time.
Geometry is done in batches. We dump a bunch of objects into a test map, and process them together. Each object has to be saved off to a new name, volumized to match up to the floor/wall, and tagged with new names/descriptions. That process doesn't take TOO long per object, but the number of objects in a batch can bloat the process and the whole batch can take a while.
Skies are similar to the above, saved to a new name, and tagged in some text files. No volumizing though, so they go a little faster.
I see things on that list that don't exist now in game (to my knowledge). It is exceedingly unlikely we would create brand new assets, specifically for the foundry. You are much more likely to get something that already exists, and only needs the above things done to it.
Lamenting the inclusion of these things as they were made is understandable, but when we are looking to a big release, scheduling multiple days of an artist's time to convert things to Foundry use is a hard sell compared to getting some polish time in on the missions EVERYONE will be playing in a few weeks.
These tasks (flagging stuff for the Foundry) is also very different from our day to day work, and is a very tedious and involved job. As such, it's easier to swallow it in batches than trying to do it in bits and pieces as we go along. There is a major gear shift necessary to go from asset creation to Foundry prep.
The bottom line is that we (artists) are willing to do the work, we just need it to be scheduled.
There are three different people that just checked two items and hit submit....
It makes me wonder if people really read through the list
Sorry, one of those was me. I thought it might be one of those polls that would show you the standing tally once you voted, but I didn't want to influence anything.
Thanks very much for looking in here and giving us some feedback Taco. You mention scheduling. When we've got the result from this (and after some revision possibly to weed out things that would have to be made from scratch which I agree is unrealistic), is there someone specific on the team in charge of scheduling who should be made aware of the list so that when it comes time to schedule things, it might be given consideration?

If I may follow up a little on this, what about simple geometric objects such as a cube with a carpet texture, or a simple ramp? What about something like a water volume? Is creating simple assets a more time consuming process than converting existing assets?
SalamiInferno is my taskmaster, but I don't know if he would be the one to make the call on scheduling this or not.
Creating anything new inherently takes longer than just doing the tagging on something that already exists. However, primatives with a texture are easy enough to whip up quick. When I'm talking about new assets, I mean "Cardassian bio-bed," etc. Things I've never seen, and would require actually making something intricate/complex.
I'm not sure what you mean by water volumes? We don't have swimming in STO, so do you just mean a water surface plane?

I know we'd love to have some primitives like the building blocks but with different textures, especially ones we can use to make better looking floors and ceilings. For example: a 500x500 building block platform with the floor texture from ESD on the top of it.
As for water. The idea is we want to be able to put something that looks and behaves like the in-game water wherever we want, say if we wanted to make a pool like the one in Hathon. How is it done in Cryptic maps? Is it just a flat surface with no collision that's animated?
Water surfaces in game are mostly just a plane with a material on them. The splashes come from a volume under that surface. I don't know if that would function in the foundry or not.

...Out of curiosity, does this mean that water is handled differently in Champions (which does have swimming)? Or does it just tell the game to make you enter "swimming mode" when you cross the plane?
Maybe we wouldn't need the splashes, as long as it looks like water I'd be happy
Same here.
It didn't make this list, but I would like to have place able catwalks, ramps, and/or stairs. the solid stone ramps are.... nice, I guess.... they certainly have plenty of uses of their own, but... they have limitations in what you can do with them.
I ultimately made this list as I was really looking for new assets. Some of them even though outlandish were my hopes and Dreams

I would have no problem sharing the google doc with you three (TacoFangs, Drogyn1701, thegreendragoon1) as you were the most helpful and were the original instigators of this escapade. If you would like me to do so please send me a PM, so that we don't have to share contact info publicly, This way you can see the Raw Data from the Poll.

Thank you for reading this Thread and Giving Feedback, it is nice to get some suggestions from Cryptic.
To Drogyn1701 :
Thank you for all your suggestions, and I would like to maybe look at creating a Diplomatic Link between our 2 Fleets if you are interested

10 quick things that Taco could do that would be a godsend:
Applying the following to 100 x 100 square primitive. We'd be happy with simple seamless textures applied to the flat primitives, like:
1. Starship carpet (the different variants in color would be an awesome bonus, like the gold, blue, red, and black versions of the same texture)
2. Metal looking floor.
3. Starbase carpet
4. Generic floor that isn't stone.
5. Ceiling texture with flat lights
6. Another ceiling
7. Klingon looking floor texture
8. Klingon looking ceiling
9. Romulan floor
10. Romulan ceiling.
You could even combine the floors and ceiling by putting a floor texture on the top of the primitive and a ceiling texture on the bottom. then, we'd use it in different ways.
Or if we had a fairly large cube 100 x 100 x 100, where the top of the cube is a carpet, the bottom a floor, and each side a different wall texture, then that cube would become the most famous cube for custom sets.
Those 5-10 things would amount to the most significant asset update we've had in 2 years. By "new" we're mostly asking for textures within the library to be applied to props that already exist.
Maybe we wouldn't need the splashes, as long as it looks like water I'd be happy
Or, if we had a splash audio effect that we could attach to the volume, it might work. Sure it would splash if the player stands still, but I'm ok with that.

See this angers me
You had a chance to add things to the list and you didn't, but now that Cryptic has responded you want to add your own list. Specially since most of these things are on the Form
I gave people like 4 Days, before I made this list, now we are voting, the time to add things to the list has past. You were late.

Everything that I'm asking for, I voted for, if you're referring to the poll where we pick 25 things. This is what most of us think of when we see more floors and ceilings, which was a big chunk of that poll.
More Federation Carpets / Floors
More Romulan Carpets / Floors
More Klingon Carpets / Floors
More Reman Carpets / Floors
More Cardassian Carpets / Floors
More Generic Carpets / Floors
Carpets and ceilings are the same thing depending upon the texture.
For reference, from the poll page itself:
More Federation Carpets / Floors
More Romulan Carpets / Floors
More Klingon Carpets / Floors
More Reman Carpets / Floors
More Cardassian Carpets / Floors
More Generic Carpets / Floors
