Aaand now that the last hour has donned, might as well keep up on the progress of patches and reports. 2.7gb DL and patched in 3m 45 seconds. So not terrible at all. I am predicting that the game will crash quite often since it's been happening more frequently pre-patch anyway.
May good management be with you.

Personally I rarely run into an issue with people going AFK, and 99.89% of the time I don't go AFK...by there is that .11% chance that something pops up that just needs attending to....the system I am sure can NOT judge the intent of the leaving of a PVP for what ever reason.

There are at times that I have LEFT a PVP because the people who are in the PVP do NOT know how to run the PVP, won't listen or read instructions on CHAT from those who KNOW how to do the PVP effectively...in these cases I wait for people to leave FIRST so that I do not incur the 1 hour ban on the PVP ques. Selfish...damn right...but Altruism is NOT part of my nature...I am NOT going to do the PVP on end once its a failure.....

On the other hand if your just in the PVP and NOT participating at all than yes a 2 or 3 our even a 4 hour ban would be appropriate punishment.....

Looks like you're in for a year and 1/2 of frustration then. At least geko says PVP won't be graced until mid 2014. Both branflakes and geko seem to be using stronger language (notice my own as I have doubts they're intrepid enough to complete that looming notion with unnecessary components like bald dinos being introduced instead)
May good management be with you.

Gentlemen first off there is a LIST that tells you when the AFK penalty is applied and if I am correct NO PvP ques are included in that. Besides if you are afk in a pvp que I would anticipate that you get whacked in short order. Secondly being AFK for 3 minutes while annoying wont trigger the AFK penalty. I would guess that the AFK penalty applies if someone does not contribute at all which the STO would not have a problem with determining

I really like the AFK penalty. It will keep the parasites out of STFs. I don't mind playing with somebody who doesn't know what to do. We were all beginners once. But I hate those leeches who sit at spawn during the whole STF, even evading the cube if they have to, but not contributing a single shot.

Yeah ... I got irritated just yesterday when a FED lady in white stayed in damage control while the rest of us Defended the station and wiped out the Elachi.

Mine Trap was always the worst for me. No less than 3 AKFers every single match. I haven't played it in a while due to how bad it eventually got. I'm really looking forward to giving it another shot now that the AFK countermeasures have arrived.

Honestly they could have just went forward with a statistics board. If somebody has never done an STF they should have to complete at least 20 normal rounds before the elite is unlocked. That would have spared a lot of effort into an AFK algorithm. Frankly that algorithm should only be applied to characters who trigger that category more than once within a 24 hour period.

Sometimes you can't count on intuitive notions from the lead dev. Geko seems to be embroiled moreso with just charging forward regardless of what the customers want.

Example: Geko tried to piece together this backdrop that the Voth pulled up roots and went exploring instead of being taken from earth which makes more sense. 0 record of a civilization, 0 mention of that in the episode in voyager.. Even the episode mentions that they weren't even aware of earth. So obviously category harvesting DNA from the planet is not realistic for that reason. If that had that much tech you'd think they'd have had a record of earth somewhere.

All of that nonsense rationalization just to placate player feedback that dinos with lasers was unwanted.

So intuitive writing? Intuitive algorithms? Don't spend too much time being frustrated since.. Well charging forward as usual. Even the sphere of influence mission is plagued with innumerable spelling errors. As it stands 2/3rd of the story boards are mind warping to read through.
May good management be with you.

They do not need to impose restrictions on characters to do elite stfs. I have done thousands of elites and doing a ton of normals to unlock elites on a new character is absurd.

    Pretty Flowers.

Anything to move this thread from the really, really really tired subject of AFKers.

To those it really bothered: Woot! They listened and they did something.

To those who are worried about false positives: For the love of Stahl, please please please wait until it happens more than once to rant about it in the forums.

    To the AFKers:
    "So my fun is wrong?"

No. Your fun makes everyone else's fun wrong by default.

Obviously we're talking intuitive so obviously this would apply to a main character and the hand-me down to alternates is the key here if we're to elaborate. Just like the sponsorship rep projects. The idea is behind keeping greenhorns busy and learning the rounds before they are allowed to take part in seasoned play. Why exactly do vets have to carry teams? Besides that leaves room for end game to feel like end game.

What he said. I got 14 alts with full tier 5 omega reputation. I know what I am doing, yet I would need to do normals on a new alt? Absurd.

Not to try to burst your bubble or something, but unless the afk ban is account wide it will only slow the flow of afker's in stfs. I'm willing to bet all of them have more than 3 toons they can switch to and continue their a**hat activities.

If the 'first steps into the elite' accolade were to be made account bound, there would be no absurdity.

I would agree, IF it were only a timer penalty... but remember if you get hit with the penalty you get no rewards either...that is really the thing that will hit AFK'ers... It nets them nothing... so sure, they can come and AFK in a STF... but they get nothing from it... No Marks, No BNP, No Dilithium.... the incentive is removed.... to me, the 2 hour ban is just icing on that cake.

You say the AFK timeout can be overcome by multiple toons, but why bother if they AFK in any toon they get no rewards... ignore the cooldown, the fact they get no rewards makes it pointless to afk on any toon. so if someone AFKs in one (intentionally or not) if they swap toons and dont afk then everyone wins, and if they do, again, no rewards and cooldown increased... so either way its not a problem
