I seem to be unable to get a working voice chat setup. The MIC TEST is blank, and I can't hear my fleet.
I ALMOST had it for about 30 minutes, once.
I have a USB headset (CyberSnipa 5.1) that is my preferred output and input. The PC has a realtek audio onboard (speakers and a crappy stick mic are attached). I have a TV tuner card with it's own sound inputs. Bluetooth headset and bluetooth speakers round out the Audio devices on my gaming rig.
I've disabled everything except Realtek onboard, and that did not work.
I've disabled everything except the Cypersnipa, and that did not work.
When it DID work - for 30 minutes:
I downloaded VOICEMEETER, which provides a virtual mixer, configured the USB microphone as input to the mixer, output from the mixer to the STO client (in the chat configuration). Output was to the default USB audio, which has worked consistently. I was able to hear, and the MIC test worked. I jumped in a PVP, got tossed out to the "log in" screen after about 20 min (10 was setting a testing the audio! and when I came back in, the device, while listed in the Voice setttings, was silent, and all I could see was "Failed to join voice channel". No more fleet chat even to just listen.
The VU meters in the VoiceMeeter showed that it was picking up my voice, but the MIC test was blank.
VOICE does work from my laptop, but the graphics are so BAD there that I can't bring myself to do more than DOFF assignments from that box.
I've been looking at everything I can on VIVOX, seeing if some other game's problems relate and maybe a solution. Nothing so far.
Any thing else I should try? My ticket with PWE gets more traffic from me with everything I've tried.
I didn't fully read your post, tho I did scan it... My apologies.
But, one thing I have noticed with the sound settings in STO, if you try to set them while the client is running, nothing happens. I.E., if you go into your audio settings and change the output device, it doesn't work. You have to re-start the client to take effect.
I have found the best way for me to swtich between my headset and my speakers is to tell STO to use the default sound device, set my headset to be that default sound device, and then restart the STO client.
Again, I didn't really read what you posted... but you now have what I know about the audio settings in STO.
I once again match my character. Behold the power of PINK!
Separated the default recording device and default communications device. Set default recording to the stick mic, the default communications to the USB Headset. Left the default outputs to the USB headset. Thought I had tried this before.
It finally worked. Now my error is "failed to join voice channel" on my KDF and 3rd character, neither in a fleet.
Closed client and reloaded through the long loading process. Success!
Now to see if it works tonite when I log in to fly.

Our fleet is using the built-in.
