Numbers have ranged in my reading from counts of up to 25 to 10 different currencies in Star Trek Online.
This is an abysmal problem. Unlike a true economy we have no real exchange. I propose that Cryptic change this. While it is understandable that events and seasonal events have they're own "items" that are uninvolved, I think that the Marks (Fleet, Romulan, Borg, and Nukara) should be exchangeable for a 2/1 ratio.
EC, as the standard of exchange for the game, what equipment sells and purchases for, should be exchangeable with the Dilithium at a standard exchange rate, as a timed currency. This is currently done unofficially by the community by exchanging Dilithium for Zen and then buying Master Keys with the proceeds, and selling those on the Auction House.
I suggest the following, add a currency exchange agent at DS9, Earth Space Dock, Quo'nos, and the Romulan Flotilla. Adding this would eliminate the middle men, speed up the economy, and allow us to feel more secure in what our Currencies mean.
EC =Dilithium at 250:1
Dilithium = EC at 1:150
EC = GPL 10:1
GPL = EC 5:1
Marks interchange to 2:1
Dilithium should exchange to Zen, and Zen to Dilithium at a STANDING RATE. (biggest change)
Zen should exchange directly to Lobi if desired.
These are my proposed changes.
I feel that if the Devs would add an exchange it would allow the currencies to have meaning, be far less confusing, and have a more firm hold on realism of an economy.

Horrible idea right there. Allowing it to fluxuate gives you the opportunity to earn a profit, and makes it flexible to the current need of the time.
The better idea is to put all of the currencies into the zen/dil exchange and allow us to buy and sell between currencies at a rate determined by other players buying and selling.
As long as there is no Economy associated with Marks and other stuff people consider as currencies, then the only currencies I see are Energy Credits, Zen, Dilithium, and Gold Pressed Latinum. Marks are just project inputs or Arcade Tokens depending on what you consider projects to be.

The problem with making just Reputation Marks is there would be no incentive to play things associated with one particular Rep track. You'd be able to just spam STFs to get T5 New Romulus rep, and STFs have nothing to do with New Romulus at all.

Well they could do a similar thing to what they are doing in the new Voth Reputation. You get awarded with a piece of random Voth Mk12 gear for doing a rep project.

When we do an STF or a Tholian Mission, we get MARKS.
And we can spend it on anything that takes Marks.
I hope STO get's better ...

I agree with this. Just make Reputation Marks a singular currency, instead of Omega, Tholian, Romulan and soon to arrive Voth....

That would be the incentive for me.
