there were carrers in ds9 but not the way you think. the akira class ships were designed to carry fighters and remember on the galaxy class that big main shuttle bay and the 2 smaller ones on back of its neck. those 2 ship classes were probably used to ferry the perigrine fighter raiders between battles
Having spent some time recently on my Rommie toon, I have to admit, the Feds really do have it good. Ship selection for the Rommies is terrible, and I assume the KDF is just as bad. I might play that one more, but all the red really gets on my nerves.
Wait... Rommie ship choice is terrible... when you have that little monster, the Fleet T'varo, the crazy little killer, the Fleet Dhelan, the tanky as hell destroyer, the Fleet Mogai, the fast and nimble and great murderer, the Fleet Ha'feh... and the coup de grace, that monstrous damage dealing leviathan, the Scimitar?
Explain to me why that's bad.
It is said the best weapon is one that is never fired. I disagree. The best weapon is one you only have to fire... once.

Look at what they don't have in comparison to Feds. Take science ships. There's the R'mor Temporal and Hanom at T4, and the Fleet Hanom. Ditto the KDF, whose only endgame science offering is the Fleet Varanus.
Meanwhile us Feds have six VA science vessels, two of which even have non-fleet variants for solo players.

Exactly. Every ten levels, you have one, maybe two ships to pick from. 3 at Lvl40. 3! At every rank, Feds DOUBLE the number, and then there's the selection of T5 ships to choose from!
That's why I want better access to Fed stuff. Sure, maybe these ships are all big and bad to you, but they aren't to me. Whoo, battle cloak. K. It's a little easier to use than the cloak on my Dreadnought. I STILL only use it for Alphas. That, or running away. In my case, the engie ships are the only ones I can use because all the rest DIE TOO EASY.
The only things worth using are fleet versions of the later tier ships, or one of the Scimitars.
That's it. The selection is pathetic. Fed ships provide you with plenty of options to suit your play style. You better adjust your play style if you want to be any good as a Rommie, and that's PvE. I can only imagine what kinds of rich lifer gods there are who fly rommie ships in PvP and dominate everything.
The Rommie faction is the perfect example of a Pay-to-Win system.
I won't go into klink problems, because mine is only a Lvl 8, and can't seem to keep interest.

My name is Rage, and I too support a revised Galaxy family.
I don't think they are in any hurry to add more dedicated carriers for the Federation, just as they are in no hurry to add Fed ships that come with built in cloaking devices (I'm obviously not counting the console cloaking device)
They are fully gearing up for the Voth being added, and they have apparently said that the KDF's next ship has been delayed until next year due to this. So I doubt we will see any new Fed ships this soon after the Avenger.

As for the discussion about the realism of space combat... There are a lot of things that really hinder the concept of fighters in space.
Most science fiction shows neglect to give their ships point defense systems. If they did it would be pretty easy to maim incoming fighters with these defenses.
Even with cutting edge automated drones they still wouldn't have the speed and reaction time needed to evade the speed of light strikes of lasers. This combined with the limited internal space limiting the amount of equipment and fuel already handicaps there effectiveness against larger better equipped targets.
TNG even highlighted this once by having the Enterprise-D and a Borg Cube curb stomp small fighters with ease.
Sadly the only realistic purpose for light attack craft would be as aerial ground support, as part of a combined arms invasion force. So it actually makes sense for aggressive species like the Romulans and Klingons to have them, but not so much for the peace loving Federation.

I think a better way to put that would have been:
Look at what they don't NEED in comparison to feds.
The Romulans don't need more ships. They have a ship that fills every role, and they have a ship for every job. They just don't have all the extraneously useless fluff that wastes space in the federation shipyard tab.
It is said the best weapon is one that is never fired. I disagree. The best weapon is one you only have to fire... once.
True enough. As a primarily fed player... there has always been just one thing I've wanted from the KDF. Your fireplace in your kdf starbase O_O. All your Cozy are Belong to US!
I would enjoy a good fire. But we are FEDS! We need a giant and i mean GIANT gorram FISHTANK!!!!!! With sharks and prehistoric fishies (for the upcoming voth content)

True they do have the jack of all trades ships that the FED's don't have. What i would give to have my glaxy be that jack of all trades ship....
Inertia just means you can do Powerslides in you carrier!

Why are people so against carriers, also cannon wise the Curry/Shelby class could be a carrier. so sorry guys the fed would make them.
I have no problem with them, but from my various posts in support of a carrier I have determined that many people don't like carriers because of 3 reasons
1. They like escorts and/or cruisers (which are more "iconic")
2. Fighters/Frigates don't have enough firepower to be a "game changer"
3. Star Trek didn't show any carriers, therefore for us to want some would be considered blasphemy against the mighty Star Trek series.
One day Cryptic will be free from their Perfect World overlord. Until that day comes, they will continue to pamper the whales of this game, and ignore everyone that isn't a whale.

my counter to that.
Cruisers are Inconic and i wish Cryptic would address and issue with one. Also where did the fighters in DS9 come from, they are incapable of high warp. Also during TNG we saw maquis fighters do alot to a Gallor before E-D showed up. It is not blasphemy and those who think so are stupid. The simple fact is this. Fighters weren't as needed in most trek time. But they're effectiveness was proven during Dominion war so we she more use and now in STO era both KDF and Fed are using them.

Romulans aren't a full faction and they have access to the ships of the faction they do ally with. If they made them their own faction and didn't have access to KDF or Fed' ships, you might have a better argument with that.

Just build that peck full of fish in the belly of a captured BoP, it worked for Kirk.

they have access to all but T5/fleet level faction ships, which if you haven't noticed, is where all the GOOD ships are. so still pretty limited on T5 ships unless you shell out for C-store ships or the arm and a leg Lockbox ships.
Given highly advanced computers, holodecks, and holo-people I would expect Starfleet to either use drones, holo-pilots, or control the fighters remotely from on-board holodecks.
It is generally believed that if we ever get actual starships they will have at most a token crew to deal with hard choices and the unexpected, the rest being taken care by computers that are far more efficient that people at routine stuff. The problem is not 'why do they have starfighters if they love people so much?' but more like 'Why do they need four thousand dudes in a starship to begin with?'
Maybe other than the bridge officers they are all holodudes. O.O
What is to say that isn't how the other races are doing it already? Who would want to send a pilot with a ton of training (not just cost, but TIME) out in a tiny ship to be swatted away and lost forever? I'd imagine that even the Klingons would get practical and decide that sending the fighters out by remote was a better idea than guaranteeing an "honorable death" at the first engagement.
The key factor suggesting this is true is just how dumb all of the hangar pets act. NO ONE can tell me that there is a pilot with an IQ above 20 flying those things. Would you let pilots that addle-minded fly expensive fighters? It MUST be smart pilots slowed by computer aided remote technology...it must be...

And you'll also notice the majority of KDF fighter pets are Orions. There are no actual Klingon fighters. Klingon Frigates yes (IE B'rels, B'rothls), but no fighters. See? Them klinks not so dumb after all :P
