So I think the new abilities coming sounds awesome, but what would be the best KDF cruiser to utilize them?

Well, they're basically good on any battlecruiser or FDC. And since all of the KDF cruisers are battlecruisers (except the Orion FDC), they'll all be able to use the same number of comm arrays. So, basically use the battlecruiser you like the most and consider she just got improved. :)

Personally, my Bortasqu' just turned even more bada$$.

Actually, based on its general attributes, do you think they will actually tag the Bortasqu' as the KDF's full Cruiser in terms of these Cruiser Commands? If any KDF ship qualifies as a full-featured command ship, the Bortasqu' certainly fits the bill...

I think one of the more maneuverable battlecruisers would be ideal for an STF since they could conceivably keep pace with escorts with tactical maneuvering, like the Fleet Vor'Cha or Fleet Kamarag.

The Fleet Torkie has just evolved into the most powerful cruiser in the game.

I was thinking the same thing when I read the dev blog. Likewise with the Fleet Excelsior.

Nah, the Bortasqu' is a battlecruiser. So it won't be getting the attract fire. And quite frankly, if there's one cruiser that has no problem holding aggro, this is the one. So it doesn't really need that particular comm array and I certainly won't miss it.

And then, someone found the stats of the Avenger on Tribble. :P :D

The Avenger and the Forkie are quite evenly matched, mostly being needing the additional console to cloak and slightly slower turn vs having 5/3 weapons.

Though I must admit the Avenger is the Star Trek equivalent of the Abrams M1.......

Well as a Orion FDC player, I'll most likely have Attract Fire up most of the time, with modify Shields up when they're really low or between combats.

Oh and the most important question for FDC captains is do pets count as allies for the purpose of these abilities.

Yes, yes they do. Still not enough to win me over though; Kar'fi is still too damn perfect. :P

They are allies, but hangar pets are "small craft" and not affected by Cruiser Commands.

Not quite the new Fed version of the Tor'kaht is better than ours because you know it's Fed.

5/3 Weapons, Better Hull, Better Shields. Worse Turn and Console Cloak but honestly seems we got the TRIBBLE end of the stick again.

I disagree with that, actually. I think the Tor'kaht has the better boff layout for a ship designed to use cannons, and the inbuilt cloak is nice for that bit of alpha damage. The other changes are more or less give and take (except for the shield mod, that seems very high for an escort/cruiser hybrid).

That said, I'd prefer the Tor'kaht regardless of stats simply because it has a) a canon skin and b) 100% less Lego. Seriously, that Avenger is one blocky ship...

Since I sitting on a fair amount of Zen and it seems there will be nothing KDF to buy in the near future I'm considering getting this one. It's ugly as hell, but sometimes ugly ships tend to grow on me through time.

I'm mainly considering it for the lulz. :D I would use it as a pureblood Starfleet cruiser - throw the cloaking console in the trash, set it up with beams and watch everyone clueless rant about it. lol :D
Honestly, these comm arays are just begging for a beam boat. Ofcourse I'm talking about PvE here.

It's one of the worst pvp ships actually (while still very good for pve). Lt. comm. tact + lt. tact is overkill and cripple its defenses in the world of aux2batt.

Hope the new fed cruiser has the same layout so feds will be super happy with a ship that has 0 practical use in pvp (and FAHCR remains king).

You realise it is cloaking compatible as in you can slot the console like the Fleet Defiant. And like the Fleet Defiant it doesn't come with it you need to get one from the Defiant Retrofit or Galaxy X.

I disagree. Given its slightly different Boff layout the Avenger will be able to run A2B and have RSP plus DEM 3. Or even EWP plus DEM3.
All with loss of just a single LT Tac boff ability while retaing fill LT sci abilities.

    Too late. They got the best of both worlds imo. Excellent A2B boff set up and DHC capabilities with the;
    Tac LTC
    Tac Ens
    End CMD
    Universal LT (used for Eng)
    Sci LT

Once again they took a good KDF design and made it better for the frds.

As someone alreaady stated we are a handicapped punching bag for the feds to give them a feeling of being capable at PvP.
The more I think on it while looking at our ships and other choices, the more I start to believe it.

It truly shows the effectiveness and skill of the KDF players though I mean we use older ship designs that have long since fallen behind to the power creep over time and because of LOR yet somehow we still come out top more often than not.

Yes I know, that's why I said that I'm going to rip out it's cloaking console and throw it in the trash. :D
Seing how this ship probably won't come with a cloaking console of her own, all the better for me - I won't have to take out the trash so soon. :P

Well that's unfortunate as its own fighters won't directly benifit from it.

Still I can see some benifit to my Elite Slavers or interceptors when running Attract fire, they're more likely to survive the more fire I draw away from them, which helps them rank up, and it boosts my survivablity so which again means they don't have to start over because I blew up.

Another Synergy is Shield Repair shuttles and Shield Frequency Modulation Comm Array, boosted shield healing and hardness, I'm assuming shield damage resistance.

Seriously the FDCs are shaping up to be one of tankiest ships in the KDF fleet. I have two shield heals, 3 hull heals, a hangar bay that provides flexiblity, including possible shield healing amoung other options, I have good, abit not great shields and hull, and 4 sci consoles and 4 eni consoles slots. Now I will also have the two must tanky Array Comm powers, Attract Fire and Shield Frequency Modulation.

A FDC teamed up with a group of say Klingon Battle Cruisers would be brutal, the FDC runs interceptors or maurading Force Shuttles and the attracted fire, while the Battle Cruisers run the other three comm array powers.

I give it 2 months tops, before the Fleet Torkaht is nerfed after this new cruiser mechanic is implemented. I can already hear the FeddieBear whine. "WHAT!?! A cruiser almost as good as ours!!! Unacceptable!". Sigh.

Yeah, the Tor'kaht retains some strengths, while the Avenger has its own. Tor'kaht has the better boff layout for tactical builds, at least. The Avenger will be a mean ship, but at least they kept it from completely outclassing the Fleet Tor'kaht. I'd prefer the Tor'kaht too, it looks more badass and it's more suited towards my preferred playstyle. It's the battlecruiser I would probably use if I wanted to fly battlecruisers again on my main. Haven't flown one in a long time, at least on my main. Flew the free Marauder on my barely-used Eng toon for a bit, but it just doesn't feel right. Guess I'm too used to my BoPs and escorts.

Honestly, if anything, this Avenger is from said crying due to the Romulans in particular having far superior ships with cloaking and DHC-usage.
I remain empathetic to the concerns of my community, but do me a favor and lay off the god damn name calling and petty remarks. It will get you nowhere.
I must admit, respect points to Trendy for laying down the law like that.

I am just waiting for the complaints from players who load the Avenger up with all DHC and then get chewed up because it still can't get arc because they think it should hang with escorts/raiders.

It's the mindset of many in today's STO. After all, we have people complaining of ships having Turn Rate 14.
