It's been close to half a year since the launch of of LoR, (which was awesome by the way:)) however, there has been no new release of playable Romulan faction species.:( By this, I'm thinking manly the:
1) Suliban
2) Yridians
Although I agree that the Romulan faction should have fewer race options, (Romulan citizens vs Star Empire subjects, similar to Roman history...) these two races seem like a good fit, and for the Suliban, I heard rumours of them being added...several months ago.
So, I'm writing to say that I am "eagerly" anticipating the release of the Suliban faction, and hope that the faction is released in the near future...if at all possible.:)

I don't understand why people want or think Yridians would fit under the Romulan faction...if anything Yridians sound like they should be part of a Cardassian faction if/when we get them.
Suliban I agree with though and would like to see them as playable by the RR.
Can't have a honest conversation because of a white knight with power
Despite my earlier posts when LOR was 'new', I've changed my mind on this subject.
I do not think the Republic should get any additional races, and honestly I dont think even the alien option should be there. I rather like the fact that my crew - even the npcs randomly wandering about my ship - are ROMULAN (with the odd reman here and there). It gives them a sense of unity and belonging, and I think the feel of the republic would be negatively effected if there were other aliens among them.
I think it's probably a better idea to expand the republic faction through other means. New species would harm their image.

I'm definately gonna have to agree with you on this one. While I like the variety that the Federation and Klingon factions have with regard to the species choices we have, the story that I've played so far don't lead me to believe that other races would be that heavily involved in the Republic's newly-minted military.
I must say I've been loving the story so far, though--it's really refreshing to have all this new content to explore.
Romulans are an extremely xenophobic and paranoid people. The fact we have the alien generator is (in my opinion) really all we need.
Despite my thoughts that more customization = good, for the Romulans I feel having very few species is part of what makes up their culture.
That said, I think the Suliban would be an interesting addition, and I'm hoping that some Hirogen end up abandoning the Tal Shiar to go hunting for the Romulan Republic.
But overall, keep the Romulans as less diverse as possible. Just my two cents.
Well. Before the introduction of these new and no doubt excitable species, it would be nice to have some kind of support in order to at least gradually build a baseline Romulan crew! You know, like first build a foundation, then proceed with the walls!
It is simply not enough options on the table, most rewards are tailored for the real factions in the game, not the green marginalized one. Even that "special" New Romulan "conversion unit" is played like a lottery, eating my Dilithium for false returns, the DOFF reputation NPC is completely useless, the DOFF missions grant you aliens. In fact, all you get in the game at large is aliens. And not the kind of aliens asked for here either! All kinds of Humans and Klingons, and what-have-you-not. A big happy family of everything but Romulans!
Is it wrong to be frustrated? If so, colour me in all the shades of wrong! As long as they are green!
What about the Hirogin? I know the bulk of their order is tied up with Empress Sela, but maybe a few could drift over to our side. And if not a playable species, maybe a boff?

I guess the Yridians have the clock on their ships, which seems like they might have ties to the Romulans, ...similar to Klingons receiving their cloak tech from the Romulans. They trade secrets for money...so they would fit in perfect with the Ferengi, as well. That said, Romulans have always prided themselves that "knowledge is power" so it is plausible the Yridians are similar to the Ferengi in the Federation, only selling much better commodities...secrets!
Personally, I don't really get how the Acamarians fit into the Empire. They seem a better fit with the Federation. True, the Hirogin are in the storyline of the Path to 2409, but they seem like the ultimate standalone faction (hunting all other species) to be brought to STO...way down the line, after all Alpha and Beta quadrant factions are brought online.
The Suliban seem like a logical fit.
As for other races, probably not. As mentioned, the Romulan Star Empire in the past has been extremely xenophobic. For that reason, it does not make sense that an Alien generator exists for the Romulan faction.
However, the current Romulan faction has the storyline and focus of the Reunifcationists & Reman movements. With that in mind, D'tan is trying to break away from the past, and the xenophobic philosophy of his people, which was the reasoning behind the Vulcans dividing, and leaving the Vulcan home world to found Romulus, many eras ago. So, the new Romulan Republic is more interested in gathering "allies" and being "open" that having the upper hand via secrecy. (personally, I hope that at one point in STO, once a couple more factions exist, the Romulan faction becomes a standalone faction, with all their own starbases, bells, and whistles. At that point, I hope a choice can be made, similar to the current choice between choosing to ally with the Fed/KDF, where you choose to ally with the new Romulan republic, or the Romulan Star Empire.) Thus, allowing and accepting different races, is part of the new found reunification philosophy, which is the building block on which D'tan's New Romulus is found. So, for the time being, all races are welcomed with open arms...
Yeah, the Republic wants to be more open and they need allies and resources. The Acamarians and Suliban both have resources that the Republic would find useful.
Resources and manpower are pretty much the only reasons that the RR would want to have the Acamarians, but given the circumstances that might be enough.
The Suliban have more to offer, and might actually have tech the Romulans would find to be useful.
The Hirogen, well, they never do anything as a race. Sure, SOME support Sela, but what do the rest think?
Yridians are an interesting option simply because they're so sneaky and devious. Having information dealers of the caliber as allies would be quite useful.
We could give the Romulan republic allies without adding alien NPCs to Romulan interiors, it could just be a technology exchange like they once had with the Klingons.
This discussion was actually spoken a year before the game even came out. Although more popular, the Romulans had fewer species available within their faction than the Cardassian/Dominion option. I never once saw a different species outside of Romulan or Reman on any TV or movie that involved Romulans.
I know that there is a very small group of Cardassian fans STILL waiting and we're glad that the Romulans received what was promised so long ago. However, I say keep Romulans PURE and don't add anything outside of those two species.
Unless some weird story (Transwarp conduit directly into Cardassian space) that made sense. That way additional species could be added without needing another faction. I proposed the Joint faction of Romulan and Cardassian because it would provide a variety of species unique from the Federation and KDF
(well that was ruined with Galors in both factions; I hate the idea that Cardassians having to cow tow to the Federation).
Vulcans would fit in with the reunification philosophy.
And the fact that Spock was offered a place in the Romulan Star Empire would make them also fit in if later down the road you can choose between the Empire or the Republic.

There was an ep of TNG where we saw a human working for the Romulans.
No animals, no aliens, no nothing.. Keep romulans, romulan.. Havent we been diluted and polluted enough by being made subjects of the federation and klingon empire?? Please, lose the outside freaks and lets go back to being romulan..
No no nooooo.. Romulan, not mogulan.. sheeez.. the last thing we need is a bunch of two legged talking mogs walking around thinking their swartz is bigger than everybody elses..]
And gods forbid the alternatives... https://i.chzbgr.com/maxW500/2097409792/h9258A180/

I would really like to play as a Hirogen...they have hard hitting ships, cool armor and guns for hunting prey!

well I was gonna use a pic of Dog Boys from Rifts RPG but I found the mog and it was too funny to not use
I don't have any strong feelings on this topic and don't think a definitive argument can be made for either side. Absolutely the Romulans have a xenophobic past but it's equally true that they're changing their ways.

I agree. It looks normal wandering around my ship and only seeing Romulans and Remans. And it's kind of nice that all my boffs match. But as a long-time trekkie I also find it a little disturbing. It is after all only a hop, skip and a jump from unity and belonging to racial cleansing.
While I think they've done a really good job on the Romulans, this is one of the two things that have made me abandon them in favour of a Federation character. The greater racial diversity amongst boffs and players feels more like Trek-like to me.

The only thing I would say is we need to be able to customize our crews (been waiting a long time for this) for Xenophobic Captains like say all Orion, All Reman, All Vulcan (happened quite often in ST) all Andorian Etc... Personally I also think all male or all female should be options as well but That's a different topic but to do that they have to allow Tovan to get shoved out the airlock or it blows that all out of the window as if you're doing an all Reman crew WHY oh WHY is Tovan still sitting on your bridge like an Interloper? He certainly acts more Tal Shiar than anything. And no I know this isn't the kill Tovan thread 1000 this is just adding that I agree Roms don't need new races but should be allowed to do all Rom and all Reman crews and Tovan is a hindrance to this as he is to many things.

Absolutely. I think it's a MAJOR balance/design problem that certain boff racial arrangements are better / almost required to play. I think every species (captain and boff) should have a genuinely useful space trait that stacks.
WHY oh WHY is Tovan still sitting on your bridge like an Interloper?
I believe it's because he's vital for an early story mission which is repeatable. Allowing him to be removed would require that mission to be modified to account for his absence if you repeat it after dismissing him. Do-able but maybe they've decided not worth the effort.
