I have a 2GB Nvidia card in my laptop, and while it does heat up once in a while for a spec, I don't experience any frame rate issues. Of course, there's the random bits of lag, but that's always going to happen.
yeah I think I heard someone say that the MU ship spawns are bugged, so hopefully its an easy fix to get it more back to normal.
saying that, i have a 4Ghz quad core cpu and I zoned into a CE that was already in progress, there were so many ships that my machine literally froze for about 8 seconds while it tried to sort out what was happening.
God help anyone who happens to be in one of these things when a team mate fires off the tachyon console from the Nebula! O.O
I'm actually trying to avoid this event where possible because I'm on a laptop. Decent laptop, but still not exactly a gaming rig. I wasn't slidshowing when I did it, but almost burned my hand on the part of the casing above the graphics card.
I have to admit, at some point I was looking around, thinking "what's that smell? Smells like hot plastic" - turned out the fan exhaust was heating up my speakers, some 5 centimetres away.
No frame rate issues, though, even on this laptop. Maybe, like an earlier poster also mentioned, it's my 2gb video card. Dunno.
For a lot of people, its not the difficulty but the sheer amount of spam on the maps is actually damaging their computers. Not everyone runs this game on a high end gaming rig.
If a game is "damaging your computer" then something isn't configured correctly in your computer.
Even with MU spam there is less going on in the CE Map then there is in most of the other Fleet Action maps, or even the MU event.
So it's gonna get an extension AND a nerf on a technicality? Maaaan...... just when the game was getting fun....
It is frying my rig on occasion though. I'll agree with that. In fact the game seems to heat up my machine far more in general than any other game with same requirements does.
"So my fun is wrong?"
No. Your fun makes everyone else's fun wrong by default.
Taking bets that they'll deploy a "fix" for CC before Thursday and then say we'll extend the Event to make up for it...
You know I'm right
Borticus said on one of the threads that there is a fix already with the Mirror Ships AI and it not attacking the CE. Then commented that he didn't know when it would go in.
My bets the fix will go in on the last week of the event. Unless Cryptic panics at the number of angry customers who can't enjoy the event because of all the NPC Spam and the stress put on our video cards. Then I would say Thursday ........... next week. :P
im ok with the graphics cards side of things its not a problem for me just having a hard time getting any where near the entity due to the fact there is over 100 enemy ships in the way talk about over kill lol
Lower graphics settings, play normal, hit CE hard and win
sorry but what a silly remark when it brings my gtx 670 to it's knee's , that is a powerful gfx card and this new event makes the fps drop to 7 in parts . that gfx card is more than enough to run STO at max
Funny how people start whining as soon as the difficulty is ramped up.
CE is finally fun, and ya'll are complaining. The random introduction of gravity wells/tykens rifts/subspace anomalies makes things more interesting. Oh, and I'm running a bloody laptop connected to a large monitor, and I'm not having too much trouble.
Are you people trying to keep STO PvE stupefyingly boring?
Its a pretty stupid encounter change, the MU suddenly CE conservationists?? have CE immunity if there gonna be 50+ ships in the ecnounter at any one time they should at least be hit by CE, and thats on normal.
But conisdering I just do CE for Nukara marks which is already a grind I hate and hate about rpgs sick of everything in end game being about grinds, I just dont play ill wait for 21 days and come back when it isnt stupid.
And as I dont play I dont spend money just cant justify it. no fun = no money

I like a challenge but having 50+ ships attacking me is a little OTT tbh

If we did CE for reasonable drop chances or something tangible Id agree with you, but CE is just a grind fest for nukara marks which you log in do as many times in mark 3 hours then go find something else to do.
if they want to remove the insanely boring factor remove the grind fest and give me a reasont o stay in CE for 45 minutes and battle my guts out not just get to the end and say oh well got to do that 40 more times.... pass

While I do find it annoying that the spam is much, they're going to fix it.
And I've always had lag on CE no matter what. It's nothing new. It's not going to fry my rig per se, but it's always a challenge to stay afloat with low FPS.

It is fun... for you, and a minority like you.
Why do we have to put up with a giant terran ship spam on NORMAL which has ships more resilient than Elite stf cubes?
Sure, make Elite so hard that everything one-shots the powergamers who have machoistic urges about being beaten in a game.
But keep the normal doable. Remove the mirror ship spam, otherwise the instance is fine.
Let us wear Swimsuits on Foundry maps or bridges please! I would pay zen for that.
Now the PvE community has a taste of what PvP on a low scale is like and my gosh do they scream
Intensify what you are experiencing by say a factor of 10 and you will be close to a PvP PUG match !
You have no idea not a clue ! GFX problems turn off anti aliasing and anisotropic filtering, make sure postprocess is off too. you can put them back on after. If that's not good enough then STFU will you !
Might I recommend cleaning the dust out time to time
Yeah, people don't realize how much of a biggie this can be. If your rig has been sitting there for a year or so, you might be surprised at how clogged up it is inside. Many games don't challenge a rig, but when a game does, that's when an overheating-due-to-dust problem might show up.
A can of compressed air plus very careful use of the bare end (i.e no head, just the short "hand" bit of the tube) of a vacuum cleaner, does the trick. Compressed air loosens up the dust and turns it into bunnies, then vacuum up the bunnies.
(Make sure the computer is switched off at the power supply but plugged in, and earth yourself by touching the power supply before doing this, and don't touch anything in the computer with the vacuum cleaner head, just pick up the bunnies by hovering.)
I enjoy the ship spam and all! It's immersive, and fun. My computer is 3 years old... ATI Phenom II 720 (O.C.'d to 3.1) w/ 4 gig RAM and an ATI 6950. While it's not perfect, it's playable. And this is with 3+ year old equipment.
Forgive those that can't handle 1 or 2 missions and cry foul.
For the rest of us, we appreciate that 1 or 2 missions can stress our computers. Not everything in game has to be made for a $300 laptop 4 years old.
Sincerely,
Me
P.S. This is purely my opinion and not the opinion of anyone else. People may flame and again cry foul, but trolls do what trolls do.
Hi. Apparently I'm new here and joined in Jun 2012. Guess I'm in good company though... seems everyone else joined then too!
Excuse me, but we didn't have to leap through hoops of fire in the last CE Event to earn those same rewards.
And we shouldn't be punished for not having fancy gaming computers that some genius at Cryptic thinks everyone owns.
This ... So much this. They pulled the same **** after LoR where they totally borked CE on both normal and hard. It then took them weeks to fix it so it worked reasonably. Doesn't this company know how yo take a measured approach. Dial up the difficulty on elite modestly but don't go crazy with it.

but yeah, it is annoying.

You can play the old CE after Oct 17. I don't think a more difficult CE is unreasonable considering the ease and the level of rewards given.

Yeah and we do NOT want to taste that PvP taste any more than we want to taste rotten gagh.
Keep that taste to the PVP events. Eeeew.
