New tac warbird beam attack woes

I've tried this many times in fleet alerts and against the crystalline entity. I use APB, APA, FOMM, and Tac Fleet. I then use the singularity beam attack with full singularity power and I get about two seconds of beam and then it just shuts off, wasting the attack. The enemies I use it on are generally the large slow moving ones, so they are not moving out of the arc. I don't seem to have the same problem if I don't buff up before the attack.

Is anyone else finding this attack really finicky? I never had any trouble using the Vesta's beam attack.
