Pictures and Review of the new Romulan Warbird

topsettopset Member Posts: 0 Arc User
So I jumped on tribble to test this ship out, and take some pictures. My god is it beautiful, it's by far my favourite Cryptic own design in the game. It screams Romulan-ness, and I'm loving the D'Deridex inspired visuals, really superb. It has a straight neck, so you get a better perspective than some of the other ships like the Dhelan and Ha'Feh series of ship. I actually like the pivot-point too, feels natural (although some people have said it should be further forwards).

The only real problem it suffers from, aesthetically, is being pretty big. All Romulan ships are stupidly large (except for the T'Varo) so this shouldn't come as much of a shock. For the looks, and easy 9/10.

This picture makes me say "DO WANT!" http://i.imgur.com/yaTYMlz.jpg
It's very, very pretty http://i.imgur.com/rFLUJ2h.jpg

Out of combat shots: http://imgur.com/a/A1HHe#0

*Stats subject to change* In its current sate it's pretty "meh". I won't pick one up, but I wish I could just have the skin. Boff layout is average and there are other warbirds which perform better in every role. Pretty niche ship.

The Ship Layout:

xxxx
TRIBBLE (universal)
xx
xx
x

Consoles: 2, 3, 4 (Fleet version will no doubt be 3/3/4)

Inertia: 60
Turn Rate: No idea, but I'm getting 31.2 in-system with no +turn items, purely from skills. It feels Dhelan-like. Maybe a point lower.

kinda looks the same as any other Rommie ship ingame now.

not a real eye popper as anything new and exciting IMO.

You think? Maybe it's just me, but it looks much better than any other Romulan ship out there. The Dhelan looks weird with it's bent off-angle nacelles , T'Varo is sorta funky and retro, and the Scimi is a crime against art. The Ha'Feh/Nom/Pax/whatever are also pretty hideous!

was just the first impression I had when I clicked the pic links.... sorry, but if I saw this flying around on the live server now, I wouldn't know it was a new ship to be honest.

....didnt mean to derail....was just my impression at a glance.

I posted in the Tribble response... and it would be best my views/reviews remained there until cryptic at least somewhat finalized any feedback from players...

It would be wise for you to do the same topset... Don't get peoples hopes up just yet.

Besides if anyone REALLY wants to know about how the new Warbirds are handling they can go to that thread themselves.

Yeah, I guess I'll move my review, you're probably right. Will leave the pics up.

    EDIT: Done.

Kinda just looks like a Dhelan crossed with a D'Deridex to me, too. Not bad. But not the most original design, either.

I agree with the above. It's not horrible by any means, but it's not amazing either. It's just another Romulan ship to me.

Is there a Retrofit version of this ship for Vice Admirals? Not including the Fleet? Does anyone know?

I would really like a C-Store Romulan Science Ship. Their are plenty of Tactically focused Romulan ships already don't need another but really do need a Science ship.

This *is* the retrofit version of the ship. I barely bothered looking at the T4? version.

The entire aft section looks bland and unfinished, other than that, it looks alright. Doubt I'll buy it though since I'm quite happy with my Scimitar.

I don't doubt it, it's game-breakingly good in the hands of a good pilot.

Open test, just go to Drozana station and use the test console to pick one up (back wall).

"Ar'kif Tactical Warbird Retrofit" - Stupid name IMO.

Mine's called U.S.S. Test currently, because the prefixes are bugged and I couldn't have I.R.W Test :P

I love the model. A shame that it's wasted on another tactical ship, so I won't get it. I already have a Romulan tac with a T'varo and a Reman eng with a Mogai. My liberated Borg sci currently has a Ha'nom Guardian Warbird, and she's going to stick with science. A Romulan science vessel without the stupid inherent subsystem targeting abilities that comes with quad cannons would have been awesome. (Gravity Well + Scatter Volley + Torp Spread = Lots of dead enemies).

That what I said when the post the pic of the ship in the Galactic News thread. I mean why should it follow the same pattern as the fed and KDF ships. Both of them was Tac ship so why can't they just make it science.

I don't know what the people at Cryptic are thinking. The temporal science vessel is currently the highest priced lockbox ship on the exchange, so it's impossible that there's no demand for them. Romulans need science ships more than anything else.

After seeing the looks, it's like someone took a D'Deridex and just tweeked it, then threw on the Dhlen's engines.

Romulan ships are meant to be stealthy, thats why with canonical ships you never seen them (TOS BOP, D'Deridex, Scimitar) or you barely saw them (Ent BoP, Mogai). But to load up the aft with nothing but engines...........its not a rocket car.

And the BOFF Stations, it's just another Destroyer type, and I'm already flying Destroyer types, so the only thing this would be good for is buying the Quads. Then again, who uses Quads anymore since there are better weapons on the market in means of Romulan Plasma Cannons or Fleet Weapons.

So, in the end, I'm not even going to bother buying it.

I agree completely. A nice design, wasted on yet anlther generic escort like ship as if the dhelan and mogai and rom temp destroyer and vet ship and so on werent enough:(

Nice looking ship, ok boff layout, but 4 tac consoles = no sale. If it has 5 on the fleet version I will probably try it. It will be nice to have a romulan ship to fly at level 30 instead of the defiant if I end up leveling another one someday.

I doubt it's going to have 5 tac consoles with its special console and all.

Agree with topset that it is an ice looking ship unlike most God-awful Cryptic designs. Boff layou is a weird one though. Like it has been said, where is the science ship?

It looks like a D'deridex crossed with a D'helan then had a heavy weight dropped onto the offspring.

Cryptics "original" ship designs are just plain awful nine times out of ten. I was aghast to discover the double d and mogai that are both fantastic are relegate to "leveling" ships and the really fat clunky looking brick with wings was to be the "Permanent end game" ship. It was when I got that awful looking ship that I instantly found myself wanting to go out on a limb and pay actual cash for a mogai/double d refit for level 50 play. That was when I knew why cryptic ordered the ships that way.

So true fleet mogi was a must buy for my rom eng toon, those Ha'f##k'ugly end game ships are giant bricks with wings, not even menacing.
