Battle pet shuttles?

I've recently come back to STO after about a year of absence and apparently we all have one shuttle ready on top of our regular, "big" ships now. Nice. I like putting new weapons and item sets on the shuttle, even though I don't really use it a lot. One thing that would make me appreciate my shuttle a lot more would be a possibility to use it as a battle pet of sorts. You know, like the companions players get in Neverwinter. :P

I mean, apparently we've all got some small craft sitting around, some of us probably put some nice stuff on it and I think it could be fun if we could actually have it flying around our main ships and help a little bit. Maybe only after reaching a certain rank or something, as towards T5 a shuttle probably won't do very much and wouldn't be too OP.

I know there are carrier ships for that sort of thing. But our own shuttles are more personalized and it would give them some extra use. And if balancing is an issue, it would be easy enough to keep them out of pvp. Good idea? Or am I missing something and the whole thing would be absolutely awful?

    I think it's a good idea, But it shouldn't be given to escorts (Given their lack of shuttle bay) But it'd be a cool addition for Science and Cruiser ships!


    It'd probably drive sales of the c-store shuttles up a fair bit too!

    Why would you think Escorts lack a Shuttle Bay? There's Escort Carriers, and nothing stopping many escorts from using Boarding Party. All of them (to my recollection) have bay doors clearly on their in-game models.

    They Federations escort carrier is almost the size of a cruiser, and there is dispute if the Akira should have been classed a carrier.


    The only other one, that i can think of is the Advanced Escort (At the back...i think?) but the Defiant and Gryphon don't as far as a i know...


    I also suggested the above to try and avoid giving escorts more firepower:P

    If you do this then all ships basically become carriers and then what makes carrier ships different?

    To be honest, I am starting to get somewhat fed up with the amounts of spam going on, lately.

    It's becoming increasingly difficult to click my targets through the fog of carrier pets, photonic ships, nimbus support, fleet support, distructable torpedoes (and pets spewing distructable torpedoes), console pets, wing cannons, mines and singularity spawns. If they add any more or stimulate the use of carriers any more I can't see myself enjoying either pve or pvp much anymore, just because of the insane zergfest every fight is becoming.
