i'd REALLY like to use one, but i'm worried it might not be as much damage as what i'm currently using, and 10K Dil is a big chunk of change for a gun i'm not sure of.
if anyone can help me out, i'd be very grateful. for reference the listed DPS of my current weapon is 110
Plasma Piercing Beam Rifles do not have a fixed DPS. It's variable. The reason why is, your finger on the fire button. The rifle will continue to fire as long as you depress the button. It does not have a "firing cycle" like all other weapons do. Therefor, want more DPS? keep the button down. Want less? let the button up.
All that being said, my entire Rommie crew is equipped with them except for me and my heavy gunner. We tend to mow down npc's at a nice, satisfying rate.
They truly are, one of the best kept secrets in STO. A truly automatic rifle, with and endless "magazine". I first discovered them on Nimbus III, and have been a fan and used them almost exclusively, since.

They are very much worth the dil. I use one on my main, and have outfitted 3 of my boff's with them. The other uses the Synchronic Proton Distortion Prototype Rifle (Ghostbuster gun) on the other. I like the Prototypes chain shot...
You can buy the Mk IX on the exchange. It's fairly cheap. You can pick it up to see if you like the look and the fire power. Just bear in mind that the dil version IS more powerful.
ok. so my next question is: with them not being on the exchange at all really, is the MK XI version in the Dil store worth the ~11k dil?
I think so. If you plan to use them on Romulans or have some sort of plasma bonus such as Romulans do. They are very much worth it. They are excellent ground rifles regardless, but do benefit from the extra plasma bonus if you have them.

Agreed. If you're hesitant, buy some less expensive Mk IX's from the exchange to try out. EC's are easy to get more of. Just bear in mind, like the man said, the Dilithium Mk XI's ARE more powerful.
They are not one shot op "I win" rifles, but, they very much worth the expense in my opinion.

Example
Plasma full auto Rifle will Read
Bolt Burst
Plasma Damage
__ Plasma Damage x3 (__ DPS)
2.5% chance: __ Plasma Damage
Full Auto Sweep
Expose Attack
Cone AoE Plasma Damage
__ Plasma Damage x5 (__ DPS)
2.5% chance: __ Plasma Damage
Value: __
Now those things start at a Base (stock) Damage and are then increased by your skill points.
Hope that helps some.
