Problem is, there are some people out there who, no matter how nice you are about it, just refuse to take advice and insist that their build is the only way to go.
If that is the case, then let them be... you can only advise. If they won't take advice or help, you can't change their mind!
The optional cry baby stuff is ridiculous. The thing is that no matter how you slice it, your optional maybe tanked, but here are your options: finish it, get some marks and dilithium put afk and wait longer to finish the match than it should take, or bail and get banned for an hour. The obvious best answer is to finish the job, get paid, and sign up for one if the other 3 Omega mark missions.
This, however if its obvious that I am basically trying to solo the STF, ill strongly consider bailing, that just takes way too long in all but my main char. Even then it will take considerable time. I refuse to do that thing where I was fighting donatra with one other person that kept making her cloak... 30... fricken... minutes. (we had 2 afkers in the match and one left)

Lag does suck but at the same time you can think ahead of youtrself and go Hmmmm I am suffering from lag and I now should I go in an elite mission where the players are serious and if I go in I get ******* at and then get all mad for nothing or wait don't enter the match let theme win till I get more stabble on my game lag here, that si how I think why should I with bad lag couse a team to fail couse I couldn't think 2 seconds ahead of myself lol
Man that is hard to read. Punctuation Please!
Every player deserves to have the right to play. You can't just say "Well, John Doe here has lag issues, he MUST NOT PLAY". Deal with it. It's unfortunately a part of this game now.

there are a couple of ways to look at this .
there is a inexperienced players , which really just need to be given a little instruction and 9 out of 10 really appreciate you explaining the tactics of a mission .
there are the players that are the know it alls that think they know better than you and fail to communicate when they fail to kill that cube and leave it alone to sneak up on ya or pop a gen early by "helping" you . its not there fault its yours
then there are the TROLLS the players that go into a mission to make it as difficult as possible , laughing at you all the way .
then there is the AFKers who just go so you can do all the work for there grind .
while some players get overly aggressive over all the above . this is end game content which really you need to be prepared for PUG or not . but some players feel the stress of the grind (SB and REP) which makes them aggressive.
I agree with a lot of the posters here. I will take a player who is trying their best over an Eliter who whines and complains that everyone isn't kow-towing to their specific strategy.
The classic example is in Infected:Conduit. There are two equally valid strategies to win.
1. Get all generators down to 2-5% then pop them all at once. This is the hardest one to achieve and requires a team who has worked together before and knows what they are doing. THIS STRATEGY WILL NOT WORK WITH A PUG GROUP!!!
2. Have 2-3 players on "gate guard" Killing the Nanite ships as they appear while the other 2-3 players slowly destroy the generators one at a time. USE THIS STRATEGY WITH PUG TEAMS! It allows for more independent playstyles and is actually more forgiving to new players who have never done this mission before. It only really requires 2 players to defend the gate. One if that player is an absolute DPS beast.
The most importaint point is that players who go into an open STF should expect that no one else have ever played the mission before. With practice and experience, even noobs can learn the tricks for achieveing success on even the optionals.
I do too but there is a difference between the player that tries and the player that has been playing for 2 or more years and still cant do the a simple STF properly, now yes there is more than one way to beat the STF more than one tactic to do the same thing. But when a player that has played for more than 2 years cant get it done with secondary is just horrible all I do is report that players that fail the simple secondary that simple. There really not that hard if you boil theme down and actually think ahead yourself.
So, if I comprehend this correctly, you are logging reports to GMs about people who do not adhere to your standards about how one ESTF should be done? Hmmm...no wonder AFKers and griefers are running amok all over the game with bogus reports gumming up the works.
BTW. Spell Check before pressing Reply would greatlyimprove the strength of your opinion. And the "no speakee da English" defense in invalid. I spent seven years in Europe and most of the non English speakers I met there were better at the language than most of the people I am around now.

It's 10%. 2-5% is too close to 0 and can be just 1 hit from a pet or FAW to blow it. Plus if you use beams it becomes really hard to get them to stop firing when you want them to because they fire in cycles.
That 10% strategy works in pugs and isnt really all that hard to do when everyone knows it. Last 4 pugs i did it worked. Best strategy is having someone with repulsors waiting by the gate just incase someone pops a generator early because of firing a long TRIBBLE line of torp high yield and one or 2 of the others on the team cant DPS themselves out of a wet paper bag.:P

Number 3:
All or mostly high DPS ships, take the guards out, then take the left cube out, then take the gens out in rapid succession clockwise or counter clockwise, get the transformer down before nanites even get within 12k. Demolish the Spheres, switch sides, repeat, then gateway, then tac cube. Done properly this method actually yields infecteds that end with 9 minutes or more left on the clock (less than 6 minutes play time).
Sadly the STFs are all about DPS now.

There's a difference between Newb and Nub/Noob. Newbs are new to the game, therefore they must be taken in and shown the ropes. Nubs/Noobs are trollish TRIBBLE who think they're god's gift to the world and will get you killed and fail the mission.

But you know what? I guess it doesn't matter now does it? By being allowed to visit their studios Cryptic has pretty much signed off on you and your fleet haven't they? They've said in deed what most of us have suspected for years. They're not going to stop you. They're not going to correct you. You won. After long last, you really, really won. STO is yours and no one is going to do a thing about it. Congratulations.
As others have said, there is a difference between those who simply don't know the strats or make a dumb mistake, and those who just don't care, and when you try to teach them, the come back at you like everything is your fault.
But what really pisses me off is the AFK leechers, and that the GMs will do nothing about them. There are several well-known leechers in Mine Trap for example - if you see their names, you know your zone is boned because they will do nothing, and odds are that you'll have at least one person running around like a crack head meleeing tunnel entrances wherever they find them.... Something really, really needs to be done about the leechers!
I don't have a problem with someone that tries and listens. I do have a problem with those that don't and continue to be a moron. Then again if I haven't done one of the STF's before I am not going to start with an elite hehe.
The Conduit is the most frustrating one because it is so simple to do but people still can't get it right or even try heh.
Talore, your response and those like yours give me hope. I have not tried this MMO yet, and have been trolling this topic to see how people "feel" about the game, and how they relate to the new players. The majority of the posts in this topic have given me hope that there are enough good folks in it to warrant my giving it a try. I will be totally a NEWB, but I am always willing to learn and take the instruction of good players. (not necessarily the ones who CLAIM to be good players, as I've found that those who brag the most, are the ones who often have no patience and who really cause more problems then they solve).
Anyway, thanks to all of those posters who have open minds and are willing to help others learn to be exceptional players by following your example.
I was thrown into that situation when I first started running STF Elites. In fact, at first, I either hated or was afraid to run them for a while. After running them for a few times with one of my fleets, and upgrading all of my equipment, I eventually got used to them and even started to enjoy running them! And believe it or not, I have become quite experienced running them! I will admit that the number of time I have been sunk in them has been hit and miss (between not being sunk at all and getting sunk every 5-10 seconds). But, I have truly gone from being a very inexperienced player to being a veteran in a short time! As such, I believe that it is very much possible that these players who are performing very poorly and then complaining about it are probably very green players that are only experienced in running the normal STFs. My advice, cut 'em some slack! Remember, we were all there at one point or another! Also, ask them what their current build is and give them advice on what they can do to improve upon them! Remember, YOU are the veteran and THEY are not!
Problem is, there are some people out there who, no matter how nice you are about it, just refuse to take advice and insist that their build is the only way to go.
And those I'd just have to ignore. Don't stop helping those who are willing to learn, just because of the insecure ones who have anger management issues.

I will say one last thing on this particular point in this thread and then forever hold my peace (again, in this thread).
The caveaut is WHEN EVERYONE KNOWS IT. Those are even your words. The sad truth is, nine times out of ten, only a few of the players know that strategy, which limits how many can actually execute it.
If I am on a team that makes it a point to talk strategy, I go along with that plan of action. Unfortunatly, most matches start with a player flying straight at the cube at full speed and all weapons blazing. At that point, it is quite clear that there is no strategy or coordination. This assesment is further reinforced when I fire over the chat "EVERYONE TO ONE SIDE! ONE SIDE AT A TIME!". I then try to implement the gate guard strategy by covering the gate and asking for assistance when I can't kill the arriving ships fast enough. As long as the nanite ships are dying faster than they can get to the generators, I trust that the other team members will eventually take care of the generators.
Be on one side by yourself, guarding probes and working on generators/cubes for the team. Standard role...
Watch time tick down. (also watch a couple of them die over and over because they dont know to stay away from the gateway while they work)
Get to about 1 minute left on the clock, youre still on that side all by yourself, four probes a launch now.
The other four guys finally blow their gate.
>_> Fail optional. How in the hell does one ship do as much as four others in these things. I had my gate to like... 65/70, all on my own before the spheres popped out and they decided to finally join me (note i ended up having to kill the spheres for them too after the gate went down). Had they not popped them out, I have a really strong suspicion id have had my gate down before the last second ticked off the clock, too.
Edit to add: then watch them play gas cloud spam games with donatra while you whittle her down 5 percent a recloak. -.-

My biggest gripe with these types of ESTF's cause its happend alot over the past few days is not only the points you raised but also the fact that you type up saying - stay greater than 5k out cause it stops her cloaking as much and they still insist on sitting right on top of her. Playing hide and seek for half an hour just gets repetitive.
Uhm, thats because of some older patchnotes, which "fixed" Donatras Cloaking behavior,
since then, there is allways some dimwitt who will tell you that "distance does not matter because its patched!"

The cloaking still seems very random, I have seen times where the team stays on top of her and she never, or rarely cloaks and times where she does it frequently. Heck I've seen times where she was cloaking like crazy even when people stay outside of 5k. I am not sold on that issue being fixed or not.
