It is a F2P game are you going to pay for a console or ship thats just ok ?
If not what would be another way they could generate money to fund the game.

By introducing engaging content that people want to play?

There are ways to get people to spend money without introducing something OP, and then having to introduce something even more outrageous later on down to line to entice more spending.

Costumes sell. Respecs sell. So on and so forth.

The RP community is huge - look at the demand for things like the Tuffli or Ferengi shuttle. Are they OP? Not at all. But people are still clamoring for them. Heck, people want eating emotes. Emote packs sell too.

What makes you think its not P2W? Just because somebody bought one thing with dilithium, doesnt mean there arent people buying everything with cash in order to get a leg up.

As for your question, provide an engaging game that people actually want to login and play, and build a customer base through quality. IKR

This is a silly premise... many many other MMO cos have went F2P and managed to not drop a ton of items that destroy those games PvP metas.

To be honest of all the F2P MMOs I have played STO (which is still my favorite sadly) is the only one that heaps P2W gear on every patch.

What is also sad is that even dropping all this junk on the game... I bet they make more money on kids trying to score Cell ships and Tuffies.

Then there are games like Anets GW2... that has never had a sub... and no P2W gear. Granted they have a larger base... still proves the point... it can be done profitably with out destroying PvP game play.

Considering the Built it RP base built in to the Trek IP... the fact they feel the need to continue adding so much gear and doffs that are clearly aimed at PvP (as they are useless in PvE) is beyond lazy and stupid.

Good point i dont think with the quality of content cryptic puts out that people would actually pay for content like expansions but i could be wrong.

And i really dont think the rp community buying ds9 uniforms can keep them a float.

    Good points though.

My theory is that people who stick around and play the game for a long time (years) will eventually buy a lot of ships/clothing/gear and dilithium for projects and so on, just to explore the game that they are enjoying. This is different from people who only buy the gear for P2W. People who only play for short periods of time only buy a little bit each time, and there is no guarantee that they will keep coming back every time. My argument is that it is better to keep people with even gameplay than to churn P2W customers who are not loyal.

Need to define the P2W qualifier/threshold first to really make the distinction.

OMEGA DONT CLEAR GRAV PULSE, and inertial dampeners has no effect in the duration of grav pulse.

About being a noob, why don't u try by yourself? the other guy of your fleet that did it, is still spamming my inbox with qq. Or u will keep hiding behind and smuft forum account?

I think they originally had things in a fair state. C-Store ships fit into that nice niche of being different but not OP. It was the Galor that got things rolling, and Temporal stuff brought things to a head.

There are a number of F2P games that have business models that minimize p2w.

    1. Restrict paid stuff to cosmetic/have no impact on gameplay
    2. Impact gameplay, but are different without conferring significant advantage.
    3. Have everything earnable ingame, but make it so that people can spend to speed things up.

Yes because the only 2 options open to them... are

    1) Sell lots of stuff that is more powerful then the free stuff in pvp.

    or

    2) Charge a month sub.

    LMAO

    RIFT / LOTRO / GW2 / TOR / Aiooon (**** gets **** treatment lmao)

Those are just ones I have played myself recently... guess what. They sell lots of items... guess what they do diddly in pvp. :) Well the Toon slots that most of them sell are usable in pvp I guess.... you get my point I hope. It is very easy to have a F2P title that brings in lots of $ with out destroying an entire game type.

STO shows what happens when you have devs that simply don't give a toss for PvP.

This is how stupid this guy is he doesnt even know the difference between aux to dampners and inertial dampners omega will make you immune to grav pulse. Have one of your fleetmates invite you to a private have him grav pulse you while you have omega running grav pulse will do nothing. Aux to damp increases your speed and turn so when you get grav pulsed use aux to dampners it will nullify the debuff noob. What about eng team did you figure out that works yet. If you need any real lessons join a good pvp fleet.

I dont know of any pvper that would pay for this game in the state it is in on a monthly basis .If they did it wouldnt be enough to make a dent in their bottom line.Someone mentioned let the rpers fund it they already do thats why pvp gets no love we dont spend any money atleast not enough to make a dent . Thats why cryptic went to F2P subscriptions werent enough to keep the doors open they sold too many lifetimes. but im glad you agree that there are only 2 choices sub or p2w.

We did, back when the game was Pay to Play :p

Two years of subscriptions for nothing.

But yeah, RPers fund a good portion of the game, but I have no doubt in my mind that it's PvPers that spend the most (per person). Take a look in the queues - how many lockbox ships do you see? Fleet ships? Guys with Rep/Fleet gear? Universal consoles?

I definitely wouldn't mind paying for a new ship. IF that ship were optional and if I didn't feel "gimped" for not using it (any Sci whose using a standard Deep Space Science Vessel is just TRIBBLE themselves over. And IF I knew that ship wasn't going to be outclassed by the next lockbox ship.

The people quit paying their subscrption long before F2P and it wasnt because of lockbox ships or consoles it was because of lack of content that they could create with a staff funded by subscriptions. The game was dead for 2 years no new content nothing. Srry the 5 minute weekly episodes that i played once. As much as people complain about F2P the game is making alot more money. Now 1 thing that im starting to notice is that they seem to release stuff that is broken and op on purpose and wait a while to fix them. Like the black hole console who in their right mind created that and couldnt tell it was op. I believe they created it to be op so that every tom **** and harry runs out and buys it and gets a week or 2 worth of fun its a marketing scam. So i see everyone say cryptics so stupid they release broken stuff. No cryptics just smarter then you and knows how to sell their product. And thats a big issue it makes money but leaves players disgruntle.

who cares about omega inmunity, just wait till omega is over and use gp lol, in pvp you play vs real ppl, no vs npcs

Let me put this simple for you:

1 - Challenged you to 1vs1, you didn't even reply
2 - Pandas challenged to a premade match to show your "effective" counters vs gp/tif, u runned away scared
3 - I challenged you ingame to a premade match, and u refused cause u don't accept play without GP/TIF (that cleary show your dependece to them)

But here u are, saying noobs to the same ppl that u are scared to play. The funny part, is that you are using a smuft account for talk **** about almost everyone here (if u are going to accuse about cheats, at least use your real account), and when ppl asked you about what fleet are u into, u throw a random name of a fleet that nobody knows (hello....sob member hihihi)

Conclusion: too much talk, and 0 pew pew. Put your money where your mouth is

Nah, I think that would leave them intact but TRIBBLE us over.

They can still get their farms in and then leave, because it's not like they want to be in an Arena any longer than they have to. In contrast to us, who want to be in Arenas and spend as little time wasting away in PvE/Sector Space waiting as much as possible.

Yeah, everyone and their mother knows that. That's EXACTLY why none of the new stuff shows up on Tribble for testing.

I agree with what you've said, but I still think that there are ways for them to bring us content that we'd pay for without making it all OP - but throwing OP stuff out so that everyone quickly buys it gives them massive return. And at the end of the day, it seems like they're more interested in making a quick buck than a quality game.

Would you like for me to send you a friends request to prove to you what fleet im in. I dont think people make smutt accounts with 5 level 50s but whatever makes you feel better. Ok so you wait for omega to go down then you grav pulse then i use eng team holy TRIBBLE that was hard. I think a borg sphere thinks farther ahead then you. So now you have admitted that you actually would have to watch for buffs and actually think when to use it you cant just spam it mindlessly because you thought there were no counters. Atleast your starting to learn.

If you use engy team then that leaves you with 15s of no tac team and no sci team leaving you open to volume of fire and snb's.

u should watch for buffs for ANYTHING, is basic... u wont use rapid fire vs rsp or extended shield 3, maybe is something strange for you, but trust me, good pvpers (even newbies) watch enemy buffs before do something.
There is a diference between a "counter" and an "efective counter", thats what 5 guys where trying to explain to you in the other post, but if they didn't succeed, i don't have too much hope.

Again, u ignored all the challenges. Put your money where u mouth is.
